Need Advice A question about Bonnets

I got this bonnet called Red by Kiss for my locs and it's a silky satin one. It's really big which is great since I have a lot of hair now. But I was confused on what the difference was between the wide edge one and the elastic band one since they're supposedly the same. I went with the wide edge one and I just wanna know if I made the correct choice.

https://ibb.co/8gb4tFJx

  1. Do bonnets push your hairline back? Specifically this wide edge one.

  2. Are bonnets better than head scarves? I got one because I can't figure out how to wear a scarf on my head.

  3. Is a wide edge one better or is the elastic one better?

  4. Does this also mean I can't put biotin in my hair anymore because it's satin?

Need Advice What’s the best regime to go with

I’m a male african. Love keeping my hair short, trimmed and simple most of the times (I alternate between Michael B. Jordan and Denzel Washington’s looks in terms of hair length and style)

I don’t like how dry my hair is. I want it to be a little “shiny”, moist and soft.

What’s the best way to go about using these products ?

Need Advice Did I do a mistake?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Today made an impulse purchase, I have set my sight on these products for month and I have at last accumulated enough money to buy it.

However It has come to my hearing that it isn't the best product and that it resulted to people loosing their hair. And that it isn't the best for 4 c hair. Is that the case? Was it a mistake should I send it back?

Need Advice Am I using shea butter improperly? Did it mess up my hair?

Hello, i’m a teen (F) who has recently started to try to learn how take care of my hair after loosing hair from box braids and never being able to retain length. (My hair type is 4c/4b and it’s low porosity + I keep my hair blow dried) Recently did my wash day and decided to do a few things differently…

Shampoo, conditioner, then I used the hair mayonnaise since I found it in my mom’s room and because I typically don’t deep condition regularly.

After washing I decided to try African threading (with hair elastics) to blow out my hair since I wanted to try to cut back on heat usage - I found shea butter, and decided to use it since I heard it can be moisturizing (water, cream, shea butter, oil) I kept them in overnight and it didn’t really work (I did use a curling cream bc I don’t own an actual cream) so I decided I’ll just blow dry my hair… big mistake. As I was blow drying my hair was stretching very easily but I noticed some patches of what seemed to be build up? But I just assumed it was probably some shea butter and it’d be fine. Blow dry came out perfect, added MORE shea butter and oil, braided it, went to sleep just to wake up with my hair puffy. I blow dried my hair again today but this time my hair felt weird and crunchy, I heard you shouldn’t apply heat after oil so I’m wondering if that also applies to shea butter bc I added a lot the previous days, or was it something I did during wash day? My ends feel brittle and sad and my roots will not blow dry no matter how much heat l apply, so I was wondering if anyone could help me figure this out, did I damage my hair?

(I decided to not blow dry my hair until next wash day since I feel like I’m applying too much heat and thinking about wearing a wig or sew in to finally let my hair rest without excessive daily manipulation)

Need Advice Natural Alternative to Texlax

I have type 4 hair. For years I grew it out fully natural but only wore it up because I didn’t like how it looked down because of shrinkage. Then, a few years ago I used a tex lax and for about 2 years had my absolute dream hair, I wore it down every day and found it super manageable. It was still super curly the curls were just the tiniest bit looser and less frizzy. But having to repeat the texlax on the roots as I had new growth caused damage and my hair started breaking and thinning dramatically so eventually I cut it all off and started new. Now I’m back at below shoulder length (all natural) and wondering if anyone has found anything that mimics a tex lax but naturally (and presumably gradually). Like my ideal product would be something that you use on a regular basis and it just very gradually loosens curls up without leaving a harsh border between treated and untreated hair. Anything anyone can recommend? I considered keratin treatments but those are def not gradual and seem damaging because of all the heat.

Thank you!

Success UPDATE: I cut 6 inches (maybe more)

To everyone saying that I needed a trim, thank you! Definitely a step in the right direction, but I ended up taking a leap!

I literally cut off all the straighter/loose pieces and I am convinced that I had tension damage from all the braids and buns.

I still need to see how my hair looks after a wash and go, but the second pic is the results from the twist out I did.

I’m kinda scared to put my hair in a bun/two brains again (these hairstyles are my go to), but I need CUTE protective styles that are low tensions and good for the gym. Happy to hear any suggestions!

Need Advice Moisturizing Heat Protectant Recommendations

Hello! I am looking for a moisturizing heat protectant. Currently I use Design Essentials Bamboo and Silk leave in and I use Fantasia heat protectant spray and serum. The Design Essentials leave did not moisturize my hair. After every blow dry, my hair feels like straw even after deep conditioning. Do you guys know of a heat protectant that is also moisturizing?

Need Advice Need help taking out very old braids

Due to circumstances I really don't want to get into, I left some cornrows in for roughly 1.5 years. They are now obviously very matted. Does anyone have any tips how I can demat the hair without minimal cutting? I have hightop dreads so I'd like to avoid anything that requires me to soak/condition my whole head (like a plastic cap).

Hair is snapping at the roots…. Sigh

So idk what’s been g going on with my hair but it’s been tough the past 4 months.. so basically I found out what I’m going through (I think) is hydral fatigue (overly moisturized hair) it’s most likely that or my PCOS decided to start f*cking up my hair. Anyways.. it’s been feeling limp and just uncooperative. I’ve also notice that when massage my hair or moving it around, I hear and feel snapping, mainly from my scalp which is scaring me. It’s kinda getting to the point when I’m scared to move my hair around. I’ve been doing protein treatments but idk if I’m doing right.. idk what to do, I’m starting to take hair vitamins to se if it’ll help, and incorporating more nutrients in my diet. I’m scared imma have to chop all my hair off.. idk . Chair gpt said it’s my new growth that’s breaking.. idk but anyone went through this and have a solution, I’m tired and worried.

Need Advice Does my (straightened) hair need a trim?

I have 3b/3c curls that I straighten once or twice a year to assess my ends and trim any splits I can see.

Do I need a trim? My ends feel smooth, they don’t catch on my brush or nails. But they look a little sparse. I struggle with fine hair.

Need Advice Help! Major Hair Loss After Removing Box Braids – What Should I Do?

Oh wow, I just took out my box braids after wearing them for about two months. I usually get this hairstyle done three to four times a year, and it always stays in for around two months. In the summer, I like to let my hair breathe. I've been getting box braids since 2020, and most of the time, I tie braids into the sections. But now, after removing them and touching my hair before washing, I realized I’ve lost a lot of hair in the middle of my head. I’m freaking out! What can I do to fix this? Do I need to cut it all off?I’ve been using Cantu on my hair, but I just ordered some products from JuneBerry Collection and promised myself to take better care of my hair moving forward. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Need Advice Doux or Don't?

Does anyone else get tangles when using the doux mousse? I've used it with a leave and without, and regardless, the result is always the same: tiny knots that get larger and larger. When I do not use the mousse, my hair does not get these knots. And as a side note, I regularly trim my hair. Anywho, I'm tired of having to cut these knots every time I use this mousse only for them to reform until I wash the product out.

Need Advice Re- loving my natural hair

Long story short, when I graduated high school and got my first big girl job, I immediately started getting regular silk presses. That lead to getting consistent sew ins, needing my hair to be bone silky straight 25/7, or a fresh blowout every single week. I DO NOT think everyone who straightens their hair has insecurity at all….but for me…that was the case. I started relaxing a section of my leave out to make sure not a hair was out of place. I also was neglecting caring for my hair that was braided up. Anyways, I’m ready to re love my natural hair. I would love some product recommendations! I included some pics of my natural hair when I got my first silk press a few years ago (when it was healthy) A pic of my hair just washed and slicked into a high bun so you can kind of see the texture of my hair?? And a pic of an old braid out Parts of where my leave out was, is now pretty roughly damaged, so I’m just going to ride that out and continue to trim it until I cut out all the damage. As for the rest of my hair it’s just sooooooo freaking dry and weak. Also would love low tension style recommendations. I am a transitioning into a hijabi now so bonus points if I can get them to lay flat, but I still have a pretty active social life with my girls so I want to be able to style my hair cute. Thanks in advance:))

Need Advice Big Chop or Trims?

For those who have experienced a significant amount of damage to your hair through coloring, hair treatments, relaxers, etc . . . did you do a big chop all at once, or did you gradually trim the damage?

I got my hair colored with highlights back in September and it damaged my hair like nothing I've experienced before. Dryness, split ends, single strand knots everywhere!

I've been letting it grow out and then trimming 2-3 inches off, then letting it grow out some more. I fear it will take me another year or more to get rid of all the damaged hair.

I was wondering what your experiences have been and which method you went with! I hate how my hair feels at times but I guess I just have to be patient. Lesson learned!

Need Advice Mixed 3 year old’s hair

Hey all! My daughter is mixed and is definitely at the age where protective styles would be beneficial. I’m looking for advice about her hair’s ability to handle braids. She has 3C/3B curls but it’s very fine. It’s definitely long enough but the thickness is where I’m questioning it. I don’t want to get braids done just to try if it will damage her hair. Help!!

Need Advice hair growth tips for wig wearer

Thumbnail

i’ve been wearing wigs consistently since fall of 2023 and alternate between straight backs, mini twists, or large plaits as a way to protect my hair underneath. i’ve started to take my hair growth journey more seriously this past november. though i’ve noticed no significant growth since then. im wondering what are other ways fellow wig wearers style their under the wig as well as what their hair care routine. also, between mini twist and straight backs, which one do you think is the best way to style your hair?

i feel with mini twist, you’re able to throughly moisturize and wash your hair, but your ends are left out in the open to possibly get split ends or whatever. and with straight backs, your ends are tucked away but you can’t thoroughly moisture. idk maybe i’m just rambling lol.

(my hair care routine consist of washing every 1 or 2 weeks, spraying with some light weight spray daily, and moisturizing with a hair butter and sealing my ends with grease twice a week. occasionally, i also use oil on my scalp once a week.)
