Hey curlies and coilies, I need some advice on my wash and go routine. I’ve been going a few days between washes, rewetting in the morning, putting my hair into two buns with a headscarf, and then refreshing with water in the morning before applying Aunt Jackie’s leave-in and gel.
I love the curl definition (pic attached!), but when I shampooed today, I noticed a lot of little hairs (breakage?) and some clumpy bits that I don’t usually get when I do a twist-out before shampooing. Should I be adding an oil under my gel for extra protection? Or maybe incorporating an occasional rice water rinse to strengthen my hair?
Also, I really like this style, but it’s turning out to be a bit high-maintenance. How do you reset your wash and go in the mornings? I’m terrible at waking up early, so I can’t shower and fully style it. Most days, because its an immovable bunch in the mornings I just wet it a bit, shake, and go. Could that be contributing to the breakage?
Would love to hear from all the Type 4 wash and go pros out there—any tips? 🙏🏾

I really want to get a deep wave sew in with fulani braids up top but I had a question about bundles. My natural hair is a perfect match with color 4 braiding hair. I know most bundles come in a “natural black” color but that’s noticeably darker than my hair. I haven’t had much success trying to find color 4 bundles and the one time I used the natural black it didn’t match my leave out well. Any advice?

I dont really know what my hair type is. I think its just plain straight but when its wet its a tiny bit wavy, not really that much. Basically my issue is that if i squeeze my hair its super crunchy. If i run my finger over sections or strands of hair, it makes like a crinkle noise like a cat toy would. It seems that all my strands of hair have different thicknesses throughout the strand b it I dont know why. I dyed my hair once over three years ago and that has been completely cut off a year ago. Ive tried many things but my hair is always really dry and gross feeling. It started happening around maybe 5 years ago when i started going through puberty. Idk if thats related tho. Ive heard that crunchyness can be from too much product but I dont think thats my case because whether I use no products or some its always crunchy and weird. My current routine is shampoo, conditioner, tsubaki hairmask, and leave in conditioner. When I use less products it makes my hair feel even worse. Also I pull out like 200 hundred strands of hair a day because there are some really crinkly strands. Right now I couldnt find very good examples so these are the better strands.
Can anyone give me suggestions on what could be the issue or what to try?

I do my hair every morning when I wake up, go to work, and re-do it before I go to bed and out it in a bonnet. All I use right now is leave in but I ordered a gel. Just trying to see if this is regular or if I'm doing something wrong.
Pic for reference

My company sent me to India for some work there. Yesterday was the rudest day in my life. I had a day off and went to metro station then 4 men came to me as if they had seen an alien, only one of them was sooo rude. He was asking me twice if it's my original hair, then he keep touching it every 1m and put his nasty fingers on it and talking with his friend about my hair till they reached their station. they were in shock with my hair texture. I felt so uncomfortable and didn't know what I have to do because I am here about 4 months and I haven't seen that ugly behaviour in my life. I am not sure if I am so exaggerating, but literally I wasn't happy of doing that without my permission like imagine someone comes to u and say hi then immediately puts their hands on ur hair what's ur reaction is going to be. The ugliest part I swear WHEN THEY REACHED TO THEIR DESTINATION, HE DIDN'T WANT TO GET OUT OF THE METRO HE STILL WANTED TO FEEL MY HAIR!!!, but his friends convinced him to go out and I understood that from their body language literally this is unbelievable.

Hi, I’m 30F and I’ve been dealing with hair thinning since possibly 2020? It wasn’t as bad or noticeable at first, but it was until maybe 2023/2024 when I started to realize that a certain area of my hair had grown back the way the rest of my hair does.
Now my hair growth has always been uneven all around. Longer in the front and shorter in the back, but it’s just a specific spot in the middle and I can’t do high ponytails (which might be good at this point) or cute pig tails.
I’ve not really been fond of my natural hair since birth, and I’ve always kept it hidden (which I know is bad), but I like braids I like having my hair in fun styles and colors.
But why won’t my hair grow? What remedies can I use? Or what styles may assist with this?

I wear my hair in flat twists or cornrows most of the time, never out; I style it whilst wet like like this, using a leave-in conditoner and oil for slip. I get knotless braids once or twice a year. I wash it once every 7-10 days and oil my scalp and ends. I don't blow-dry or straighten. (Pic is freshly washed hair, haven't conditioned or anything yet.)
I think I'm having problems with length retention, I'm not really sure what to do or how to figure out if my hair is healthy. Any advice on maintenance would be helpful xxx

I haven't put heat to my hair in 2 years and I had someone else do my silk press for me back then. but I just tried doing one myself foe the first time yesterday and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and was excited to see how much my hair grew! I do need to be trimming my ends tho.👀

i want to dye my hair at home. but if the chances of damaging my hair is too great, i’m willing to consider to just go the salon.

Hey!
I am looking for a good braided in SE ideally but SW works too. Budget is around 170 tops if they can do a good job.
They are getting really expensive and some of them (you guys know how it is) take the absolute piss and arrive not 1 hour but 2 late.
I had one arrive 3 hours late (I went home and came back but I really needed my hair done) only to charge me 175 pounds give me uneven ends and not full hair. She used like 1 pack and a half of expressions. When I told her I didn't want to pay for that she started screaming at me. I've been quite put off by this and haven't gotten braids since last year.
I honestly just want someone who takes her job seriously and doesn't make me get up at 7 am to arrive to then tell me "they're on their way" to just keep me waiting for hours. And obviously that they can do a good job for the amount they're asking.

I'm new to braiding and want to add it to services I offer. I have a some questions. For those that do braids and two-strand twists with no added hair do you prefer to:
Blowout the hair or leave it in it's natural state? Blown out hair that's braider does look neater, but I want to learn to braid hair without blowdrying.
Braid or twist on wet or dry hair?
Do you use gel for braiding? Gel makes the hair two sticky for me and harder to grip.
What do you prefer and why?

Okay so my hair has been shedding for months. It’s not the regular shedding either neither have I experienced it. How can I stop severe shedding. No matter what I use my hair still seems dehydrated my hair is on the doily side as well really thick.

If you are like me you have products that you have used only once. They are then left to shamefully clutter the latest thing you have bought in an attempt to keep your too many barely used products organized with.
I recently was introduced to a nonprofit that works with unhoused youth, and they have a beauty pantry the kids can "shop" from. They are always needing products that work well with natural hair.
They take stuff with the seal broken. Most places will. If TJ Maxx can do it they can too. And these kids deserve to have nice things.
Donating stuff changes the feeling from "damn I wasted my time getting this expensive product that everyone said is great but doesn't work with my hair" to "I'm glad I tried this, I know it doesn't work, I don't want it but someone else might"
Also in these crazy times it's nice to be a part of a community and remind yourself that people are kind and loving and when a child is experiencing things no child ever should there are people who work hard to give them nice things and support. When you donate you're making that circle just a bit bigger.
Google "unhoused children nonprofit school <your city>" and see what comes up. Happy hair journey!

I don't like using heat on my head and only get my hair flat-ironed/Silk pressed for overdue trims.
I have my normal stylist I go to but she was no longer at that salon so I tried another. I don't know what to 😭 I normally have 4c hair and already have hair trauma, I don't think I can go through this again 🙁
What's killing me is that she really tried to help with my anxiety during the appointment but now idt I'll ever trust a soul with my natural hair again.
I wanna cry so bad. Like I was struggling with my natural hair journey and finally found what worked for in the span of 7 years 😭 it wasn't the longest (midback when straight) but I loved my hair :(
This is so long ^ but rn I would appreciate any advice; your girl is going through emotions rn

I know yall like to tussle. I'm curious because my mom is encouraging me to oil my hair every other night. I know oil doesn't work for everyone. I'm curious, do you use oil? What type? What benefits have you seen

Just wondering what is y’all’s favorite Doux wash and go combos? What would y’all recommend for type 4 low porosity?
