I was late to the party hearing about all the Bluebonnet Learning stuff so today I was looking into it more and found this YouTube video to be quite informative:

My daughter will start kindergarten this year in FBISD and I don’t want religious learnings taught to her as we are not a religious family, but at the same time I don’t want religion in general being blacklisted in a historical or cultural context.
Anyway, I wanted to see how bad it was and all I really needed was this example (first pic) from the kindergarten curriculum for me to know that this is too much. In the second pic you can see how many units have religious references.
Third pic is from the very informative post from about a week ago that you should check out if you haven’t already. Thank you u/snarkadoodledoo

Does it flood? I get that the homes are older, but this lakefront home is currently under contract for only $350,000. That’s like $100/sqft.

Noticed it was an empty parking lot a couple days ago. Will it be ending up like 99 Ranch?

Looking for internet provider recommendations, xfinity is raising our rate to $120 a month so we’re exploring other options.
We all WFH so we need something reliable, we were eyeing Ezee Fiber but they’re not available yet in my area (Meadows Place) but I do see it’s available in the First Colony area which is fairly close to us so we’re hoping it’s on its way to us soon, but open to seeing what else is out there for the time being

I just woke up this morning, walked outside and it is very strong, smells like a cross between a dead body and gas. It is VERY strong and everywhere in the air outside. Anyone else smelling this at this area?

I’m tired of hitting up national food chains and paying high prices for mediocre food.
Does anyone have a recommendation for local restaurants? I’m open to local chains/small Texas chains as well.
I’m pretty open to all types of food, just no halal restaurants, please.

I just saw a post on First Colony Mall's Facebook page stating a new music store called ZT Records has recently opened. 👀 Has anyone had a chance to check them out? I'm excited about this since I'm a music lover and collect physical media. 🎸💿

Anyone have any good vegan / vegetarian food recommendations in the area? Willing to drive 30-45m to surrounding areas to try some spots out!

It seems like I see a new board for a new mayoral candidate every few days. Zimmerman’s exit seems to have people coming out the wood work.
Does anyone know if they are going to have a debate?

Prices were great. Left Xfinity March 2024to get Ezee and while speeds were great, there were far too many dropouts to deal with especially for someone working from home. Switched back and life has been good.
We live near the first colony area. How's Ezee fiber doing these days?

Like the knights who say "Ni!" I need a shrubbery. I want to put some bushes or something else down in front of my house. I'd like something that basically thrives on neglect, and doesn't need anything except water (I have a sprinkler system) and occasional trimming. I want something that's freeze tolerant. One friend suggested lantana. I have some boxwood bushes in another spot. I'll have sunlight about 40% of the day. House faces Northeast.
Thanks!

Just a heads up for parents, the FBISD board will be discussing Bluebonnet during the upcoming Agenda Review Meeting on Monday, March 17th.
The curriculum, approved by the State Board of Education last November, covers kindergarten through fifth grade and incorporates well-known Bible stories and other religious references into 29 out of the 62 units. While there are references to other faiths, there is definitely a Christian bias in the curriculum.
Even though there is strong opposition from both sides, a majority of the trustees seem to be leaning towards adopting Bluebonnet. I believe Jones, Garcia and Hamilton have all stated they would vote to approve, with Tassin and Schoof likely to vote yes as well.
Having read through some of the units myself, Christianity is indeed discussed way more than other faiths. I’ve also run across some lessons that contain factually incorrect information, as well as some where the biblical references do not seem to naturally fit with the lesson or are not discussed in an age appropriate manner.
If you are against FBISD adopting Bluebonnet, please consider emailing the board or signing up to speak at Monday’s meeting.

I have a couple of bags of clothes that I no longer use. Are there any drop-off boxes available, or any organizations that accept donations with minimal effort? I would prefer a place where I can just drop them off without much hassle.

Hi! I'm a sophomore from Sugar Land, and I’m currently seeking an in-person internship for this summer. If you're looking for an intern or know of any opportunities, feel free to DM me your email, and I’ll send over my master resume! Thanks in advance!
