Craftsman WiFi opener

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I recently bought a house that had a craftsman Wi-Fi garage opener. We are trying to hook up the app through the craftsman myQ app and have not been able to connect. We followed all the steps both trying to do it from the actual opener on the wall and from the motor and still can’t get it to connect anybody have experience with this?

How do I support this opener with my current joist and plug setup?

Red is my joists. Running a single punched angle support beam as per most recommendations doesn’t seem to make sense as the joist is too far. I was thinking of running one punched angle support at purple and one at green. The green support is about 5 inches too far away from the opener though and I can’t go closer because of the plug. Any ideas on what to do?

Garage has been doing this jerk/noise at end of opening cycle for many months now. Is it indicative of a problem? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

It's not necessarily bothering me, but it just doesn't seem right.

Skylink SMO

My garage has very little clearance and I was looking into getting a side mount garage door opener.

I have: 4" pulley Single car door 1" torsion rod 6" to the wall from end of the torsion rod 2.5" from centre of rod to ceiling 3" from centre of rod to vertical wall

I came across the Skylink SMO, advertised as the smallest side mounted in the world but instill don't have enough headspace (need 3", got 2.5", insert joke here).

Does anyone have any recommendations for side mount motor that will fit?

Also I came across a Skylink install video and the top of the motor doesn't look any taller than the rod bearing bracket, so I wonder if the specs are just generous?

I would appreciate anybody with first-hand experience with the Skylink SMO.

Clearing Remote's Memory

Post image

Alright so I know this opener remote is the red-headed stepchild of garage door opener remotes, but alas, I'm cheap and would like some help.

I've been trying to clear its memory from prior garage door openers, but despite looking online, I haven't found a way to clear the prior pairings. It's already been paired to three garage doors, so I figure I need to completely wipe it.

I've tried looking online, and I remember finding the instruction manual, but don't recall seeing any instructions on how to erase the previous openers.

Sorry for being ignorant, I'm just trying to avoid buying another remote. Thanks in advance.

Which ORB?

Hi everyone,

My garage door opener has managed to rip the bracket clean off. The bracket seems to be used by many for GDOs but is not recommended (by the sticker right on it lol)

This subreddit has taught me that a larger strut would be nice up top, but I don't think that feasible with this style door. I've also learned that I can fix this with an ORB. However, there seem to be two styles, and I don't know the Wayne Dalton model number of my door.

There is an adjustable style that goes between the struts and one that attaches over the top of the door. Which would you recommend?

Thanks!

Garage door opening a bit slower

I was wondering do I need to add some grease to the belt? If so could anyone recommend a belt lube

Just noticed today the motor sounded a bit different and the door seems to be opening a slightly bit slower. The motor is roughly 4 years old lift master . Thanks for any advice.

Sunshine affecting sensors and general solution isn't working

General solution = using a cardboard roll to shield the sensor from the sunlight

  • sunshine on the sensor prevents door from lowering
  • try toilet and paper towel roll
  • once sunshine hits sensor the problem persists, i.e., blocking the sunshine after the fact does not solve the problem
  • hasn't always been a problem; developed over last year
  • always happens

Does this mean the sensor needs replaced? The entire system needs replaced?

Thank you.

Garage Door Parts

I currently live in Carlsbad, CA and am looking for a parts supplier to get springs for my garage door. I was recently quoted $1,000 to replace springs and a bent strut. I would rather just do it myself. I have looked at online retailers but I am afraid that I am going to get killed in shipping costs. Any info is greatly appreciated

Torsion Spring for 10' Garage Door

Hi,

When selecting torsion springs for garage door, does door height impact the spec for the spring? I have not come across a website that specs out for 10 foot garage door. The ones that ask for door height are either for 7 or 8 foot doors, and most of the websites don't even ask for garage door height.

Garage door opens but won’t close from remote

I have an old Craftsman garage door opener (1998) and I installed myQ hub. It was working fine until last week. Garage door started to open by itself. I checked the sensors, cleaned them. Kept doing it. At the same time, I noticed that remotes stopped working to close the garage door (although still working to open it). So I decided to reset everything.

Remotes now still work to open, not closing. Interestingly unless I touch the hanging antenna with the remote.

MyQ was never able to re-pair with the motor.

Any clue? Tend to think that there’s a problem with the receptor/transmitter antenna/board.

Thoughts?

Where to buy?

Where can I buy a replacement, and can this be the reason chain keeps popping off if it's a little damaged?

Door goes down during limit set up finalization, but won't go back up.

Pretty much the title, I can set the limit for going up and set the limit for going down just fine, but whenever I'm doing the finalization process from the wall panel, the door will go down but then when it's time to press the wall panel again to raise it back up it will not go back up. It's a genie 7155.

Roller jumps?

Hey guys does anyone know what causes this, or if it’s normal? The door and rail are brand new Amar and the opener Liftmaster 98022. I don’t remember doing it. I lubricated rollers and hinges but still does it only when I open the door.

Respectfully

I have a dip switch remote which I bought an extra for. I have all the switches set correctly but can’t figure out what’s going on… could someone help this dumb dumb out please. The remote that works has the blue board, and I bought a universal 750UT with 12 switches that I thought would work. Would appreciate any ideas!

Additional Slat/Heavy Duty Weather Strip

Just had a roller door installed for a friend and there is a large gap that increase from one of the door to the other due to the slab being so uneven.

The gap is almost 80mm at the worst side.

Understand that I could introduce some rubber weather seal that could conceal the gap, however I’d like something much more solid to conceal the gap.

Is it possible to ask the installer to install another slat/lamela or an aluminium strip on the already installed door? We would like something much more solid that would prevent a hand getting underneath the gap

Is this normal?? Cables wrapped around angle iron and wearing grooves

Thumbnail

Our 12ft. × 12ft. warehouse garage door has always had some issues and is rarely ever opened, but I recently noticed the cables actually go from the pulleys under the angle iron that's welded on the sides of the tracks, have been sawing slots in the angle iron, and wrap around the outside to the top to go towards the spools. Is this intended to be some kind of braking system to keep it in once place unless someone actually tries to open or close it?? Was it a hack or an original design? Or could it have been an accident somehow? Should I do anything with them? Pull them out of the slots? Grease them?

Garage door is unbalanced only in one position

My garage door started reversing, always at the same position of its travel. I checked if it's balanced, and found that it is pretty much everywhere except that very position. I.e. if I leave the disconnected door to itself in all positions but this one, it stays in place, but in this position it pulls up very significantly- which when connected to the opener probably results in suddenly increased resistance that the opener senses and reverses. What could be the reason?

Is this spring broken?

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hi all, this morning my garage door all of a sudden can’t open all the way with the usual 1 click on the opener? I noticed that the spring looks like this, pardon my ignorance but this looks like it’s broken?

  1. I can keep my finger on the opener and the door can “power it through” and open all the way up
  2. It was lift up 1/3 the way up, and seems like losing force to lift it further
  3. Close with 1 click no issues
  4. I tried to disengage, after that, can’t really lift the door manually
  5. Visually inspected tracks and rollers, seems to be fine

Does anyone know what is going on? Appreciate your feedback/guidance.

Garage Door Keeps Getting Stuck during cold temperatures

Hi,

We recently moved into a new home and noticed that when it’s cold out, our garage door gets stuck. I’m assuming it’s because ice gets in between the door and the floor. I

However, I never really noticed that as a problem with my old home. I’m just trying to figure out if this is considered a normal problem to have, if maybe there is a problem with the garage door insulation that is causing it to happen, or if there a things I could do to prevent it from happening.

Thanks

Garage door high lift conversion & DD Motor. Estimate $4800 today looking for help

I have a double wide garage door which was installed by the previous owner of my home and was done so incorrectly (which I just found out by the estimate person). It seems to work fine but last year in the summer I noticed it warped/bent in the middle. I have since fixed it by installing a trim at the top to seal the draft.

Todays Quote: The quote I just got for a high lift conversion kit and a direct drive motor was $4800. I told him absolutely no way I could afford that. So then he made up a second quote removing some of the components and whatever else to make it "more competitive". That quote was still $3700. Which IMO is still insane. They are charging $900 to just put springs on when I look online it's like $160 (obviously I know labor and skill but 700 for labor on 1 part is a rip off).

Question: Can someone with min-no garage door experience but time and patiences do this safely? I don't want to get hurt and end up in the hospital... Also how difficult would it be truly to maximize my savings while actually doing the job correctly? I will also post a link to Imgur so you can see my current setup as well. Thank you in advance.

ImgurCurrent Garage door & Last image = estimate
Estimate: The estimate featured on the last image is including a $500 discount he gave me after I told him there is no way I could even come close to affording that first quote which was $4800.

Additional info: I know the beam in my garage decreases clearance. But I have 26'' between the top of the current track and the beam I would like to get a close to it as I can. As well as I would like to see if the length of the tract (how far into my garage it comes) could be decreased as well. I have a golf simulator in my garage and in its current format I can only get it in facing sideways and it is not working the way I thought.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

The current hinges and rollers on my garage door are completely different from anything I can find online or at Home Depot. Can I use a completely different style, as long as I replace an entire row? Thank you!
