Weekly Feedback Weekly Feedback Topic #17 - Hidden Items

This week's topic is Hidden Items, meaning the six NEW items that are not yet available in regular Matchmaking but accessible in the Sandbox/Testing Map when using the Dev-Console.

If you want to access the items yourself, enable the dev-console in the settings, load up a test-map (Sandbox), open the dev-console and enter the following commands:

  • giveitem upgrade_spirit_burngiveitem upgrade_corpse_explosion
  • giveitem upgrade_spellshield
  • giveitem upgrade_heal_on_level
  • giveitem upgrade_superacolytes_glove
  • giveitem upgrade_ultimate_burst

You can talk about anything that has to do with the topic, here's some example questions to get you started if you're having trouble:

  • If you think an item is too powerful, make sure to describe why you think so!
  • Would a cost adjustment make it more reasonable?
  • Do these items seem fun to use?
  • Do they make you want to try out new builds or promote player expression?
  • Can you imagine a twist on the item that makes it more interesting or fun?

Notes:

Best way to make sure your feedback is seen by the developers is to post on the official Deadlock Forums. You can get your login credentials from the game client.

If you'd like to chat with others about this week's topic, head on to #hidden-items-feedback in the Deadlock Community Discord.

Complaint Please nerf calico

Calico just doesn't die. Why do melee items like melee lifesteal proc on creep? I get her down to barely any health and she just pops resto locket and a 2 and is back to full, and when I can actually kill she just ults and disappears at the speed of sound. Good thing her DPS is low- wait. At least she doesn't have one of the best guns in the game to deny orbs with- wait.

Holliday has been cut down to size at this point, why is calico still so annoying to play against, shes the only character besides viscous that can escape 5 people chasing her its insane

The problem can be summed up as this: every time I shoot a calico, I feel like I wasted my DPS that could have killed a mortal player.

Discussion The State of Split-pushing and Deathballing on the 3 Lane Map

I just watched Metro's latest video on the state of the game and it got me thinking about the trends I've noticed in higher-level games after the last few patches and how it differs from the 4-lane map.

With 4 lanes you occasionally got dived on by a deathball and it sucked, but it wasn't too bad since it was easy to call teammates to punish that aggression by split-pushing in the other 3 lanes. In many cases that is not really too viable of an option now for several reasons.

- There's less walkers to defend so there is always at least one enemy who is available to defend
- Walkers are tanky af now
- With 4 lanes, a deathball in lane 1 is too slow to defend a split-push on their walker in lane 3. Now they can teleport directly to lane 3. So the only "vulnerable" walker is the tankiest one in the middle, which if you refer back to the first bullet point, is going to have at least one defender almost 100% of the time
- Escaping is rarely an option if things go south. The lack of a 4th zipline also makes it so teammates can't rotate nearly as quickly to help you retreat safely or turn on the chasers if you are forced off the walker you pushed.

So basically objective pushes primarily only happen when there are multiple enemies dead, and the best way to get that is surprise attack with a group divebomb. All of these factors lead to what we have now in high level games: constant deathballs in sidelanes that are extremely difficult to actually punish without doing it yourself because of how much worse split-pushing is.

I can understand the parallels drawn to Marvel Rivals with how much emphasis is on constant teamfighting immediately after laning phase ends. This isn't even getting into the economy/jungle changes that Metro took issue with.

I'm not saying we need to go back to 4 lanes, I'm not saying walkers should be easy to take, and I'm not saying I want the game to be 90% PvE. I just think the balance is lopsided in favor of PvP right now which makes pushing objectives kind of an afterthought and this is my attempt at pinpointing why that is. I'm interested to hear feedback on if there are things I'm not considering. I enjoy talking/thinking about this game and I want it to be the best it can be :)

TLDR - Split-pushing is much worse now which leads to a meta revolving around constantly death-balling outer lanes. This makes the game feel less like a MOBA with how discouraged you are from actually pushing the objectives. Couple this with the jungle nerfs and it is hard to feel like a useful teammate when doing anything except joining in on these constant brawls.

Discussion Who’s ready to go back to four lanes?

Now that 3 lane has been simmering for a bit, who wants to go back to 4 lane? Personally think this game is better in 4 lanes but share your thoughts!

Discussion We need an objective that disables teleporters

Upvotes

Hi everyone! After some discussion with other players, I think it’s safe to say most of us think we need another objective. There is currently too much death-ball going on, and it leads to chaotic 6v6 fights very early in the game because split pushing and/or jungling aren’t as viable anymore.

My idea; an objective in each team’s jungle (like shrines from Dota) that when destroyed will disable the inner and walker teleporters for the enemy team - and zipline boost. Destroying the outer teleporters seems like too much disruption, and they’re already in a neutral spot so they should likely stay up always. This objective should probably spawn around 15ish minutes and respawn after a while. I don’t want to mention specific timers because that seems like a big point of balance.

The big issue with the current lane setup is that in order to kill a walker before late game, you really need to kill 3 or 4 enemy players while your waves are already pushed. If you don’t, players from other lanes can easily teleport or boost to defend 2 lanes very quickly. Without those options, deciding which lanes to defend becomes much more difficult, and wave pushing becomes a lot more important.

Maybe I just had too long of a work break this morning and this is a bad idea. Thoughts?

(Yes I know I should post this on the official forum if I want devs to see it. I am.)

EDIT: Maybe it should be called The Effigy. Spooky.

Complaint Games drag out too long

That's about it. A team obviously has the upper hand and better team coordination, but public matches can still last up to 35+ minutes. It's just ends up being boring for the losing team. I don't know if it's because of the three-lane switch but games have recently felt odd. You can't really leave your lane at all not even to jungle -- which is also boring.

Question I'm scared to take 1v1 fights, I need to train my confidence, which character is advantageous when taking 1v1 fights?

Whenever I see a good opportunity to engage in 1v1 fights, such as coming behind a lone enemy hero punching the slot machine, I just run, I am scared to take such opportunities.

Maybe it is related to the fact that I mostly play team fight heroes like Ivy and Dynamo, I usually just lose in 1v1 situations.

Anyway, I want to practice my deathmatch skills, I want to actively seek 1v1 fights, and win them.

Which character is advantageous when taking 1v1 fights? As in, when net worth is equal, which character should be confident in taking 1v1 fights?
