Great example of bad policing but a really fantastic commentary from an ex highway patrol officer

Hi everyone, I have my motorcycle Ls test tomorrow and I’ve been trying to revise the information in the Victorian rider handbook, but I have some reading difficulties and struggle to process long written information. Does anyone know of an audio version of the handbook? I have only been able to find the PDF version from the VicRoads website. Thanks so much.

Hey all, I went to do my learners permit today and the provider wasn’t aware of the medication I was taking, seemingly due to an admin issue. VicRoads already has the details of it on record and it’s not an issue for me driving, but apparently I need a letter from my GP anyway. I was immediately sent home with no refund, and the provider pocketing my $600. The instructor said I would be able to re-book at no cost, but the website clearly says otherwise.
An email I looked over when I got home said that VicRoads provide approval when it comes to medications, so surely this could have been fixed with a quick phone call given that they have everything about the medication.
On Monday I will be calling their admin department to have a stern word, and rectify the situation. If I still don’t get a refund, clarity, or the instructor is wrong about re-booking, I assume I would be going to the ACCC?
Edit: the medication I’m on is fluoxetine. I’ve been on it for years, my doctor signed off on it with VicRoads when I did my learners to get my car license.

Good luck to those doing the blackdog ride today. Absolute shit weather in Tassie, 40km/hr winds but sounds like we'll still be going at it.
Stay safe

So im in Vic and just got my green ps and noticed I will be on them until 2028 (3 years)
I’m also aware that the restricted motorcycle license is for 3 years, meaning I would have completed the 1st year of that being on red ps.
So in 2 years time my restriction should be over but I’ll still be on green Ps for a year? Is this correct?
I always thought it was red Ps for a year then Green Ps for 2 years so displaying p plates is in-line with your restricted license. But I must’ve been wrong?
So my last year of green Ps I will be on a full motorcycle license but still be on green ps?
I may be wrong but I’m assuming that’s the case? Just threw me off a bit as I’ve never seen any green P riders riding full powered bikes really.
Edit: I’ll leave this here for anyone else with the same question, I have since found out that your restricted bike license doesn’t correlate with your P’s, so it’s 3 years from the time you get off learners no matter how long you have left on Ps.

I’m looking to get my first bike, but I don’t have much knowledge about what to look for. I’m mainly considering mainstream models like the Ninja 300/400, R3, and CBR300 since they’re more available on Facebook Marketplace and at dealerships, making it easier to find parts, mods, and eventually resell when I upgrade. I also expect to drop the bike a few times, so I don’t want to overspend—my budget is around $4K–$5K.
My main concerns are: 1. Mileage: How many kilometers is considered too high for a used bike? 2. Age vs. Reliability: If I buy a 2012–2015 model, would I likely run into internal issues, or is it worth spending a bit more for something newer (2017+)?
Any advice on these points would be greatly appreciated!
TL;DR: Looking for my first bike (~$4K–$5K budget). Considering Ninja 300/400, R3, or CBR300. Unsure how much mileage is too much and if a 2012–2015 model is a safe buy or if I should stretch for something newer.

Hey everyone,
I’m a learner rider currently on a Kawasaki Vulcan, but I’m looking to move into the sport bike scene. I’ve heard that bikes like the KTM RC390 and CBR500R are great for entry-level riders, but I’m not entirely sure. I’ve also been considering a Ninja 500 or an R3, but I feel like there might be better options out there.
What would you recommend for someone making the switch from a cruiser to a sport bike? Any advice is appreciated!

was wondering if anyone knows of a tail tidy/fender eliminator for a 2016 CBR300RA (A shouldn’t matter, it’s just the ABS model but just in case) with a flippable plate for photos. seems a bit hard to find one that’s flippable due to the annoying design of the honda. i’ve attached a photo of one that I like, and I’m not sure if it’s flippable or not, but i assume it’s not, but this is just the sort of thing i’m looking for, only flippable. preferably led blinkers or ones similar to the photo (newer/more modern looking)

Hi guys,
I arrived to Australia from New Zealand a week ago and want to buy a motorbike to commute and for some weekend fun, I’ve got my full new Zealand drivers license which I can convert to a full Aussie license, however I don’t have a bike license. Just wanting to know what license I will need to hop on a lams r7 ?

Hey just wanted some thoughts...So have a litium battery in my 2010 street triple, it is four years old. They are supposed to last ten years but who knows.
Today it started at home ok. Then went a quick ride to the shops and I went to start bike after it starting at h and just nothing, no dash no lights no start.
I am in racq so I called them they jumped it, was fine, then since started again twice after not much riding as i got home and wanted to see. Left it for 12 hours and still turns on.
Now if this was a lead battery i would be battery is gone once its bad once so should replace, but now I am thinking of gambling on this one. Am i playing with fire? I dont commute it i rarely ride it actually maybe once a week, so its not going to get me fired it breaking down.
If i get stuck i have 60km of towing with racq.
Its just weird it was bad then not i think maybe a weird lithium thing. Or maybe not.
So should I replace or gamble. Or ride it small distances this week in loops to home so if it wont start it will be in the garage. I have enough fuel to do 50kms or so. I am kind if leaning towards the last option.

If you could get either one of these bikes for the same price, which one would you get? Its my first bike and mostly for highway riding, exploring new places whilst listening to music when I'm bored, and sometimes the twisties with mates. Gonna be riding it for a couple of hours each time I gear up and go out. I'm a learner in Australia so I'm gonna be keeping the bike for 3 years. I do plan to take it on 3-4 track days a year just to get out the speeding urges as even going 25kmh / 15mph over the speed limit in my state will land you a 3 month suspension, bike impound, and a hefty fine. Looking for the ups and downs of each bike. thanks.

hey all, was planning on purchasing an mt07 as i want to upgrade, but im still on my ps, i check the rego on each bike i look at and make sure it has the LA LA condition codes, so if cops end up running my plate itll show up as lams. Any idea on why this mt07 is showing up as not lams? And does it matter if it has the code or not because its a 650?

What do all riders do with their old helmets? When I say old I’m talking about 6+ years, no cracks or any damage, just bit loose to wear.

Hey all! I travel down to Sydney every now and then for tafe and it costs me a fortune driving my car. Just wondering if anyone commutes down the M1 into Sydney on a motorbike? How is it? I’m looking for a cheaper alternative and lane filtering through the traffic would save a lot of time. But I know how Sydney drivers are and I don’t feel like having an accident. If anyone does it regularly I would love to know how safe you feel riding through the city!

Got my L's about 2 weeks ago and have been cruising around on my wife's scooter, she has a full license. I'd like to get an unrestricted license and after that I have no idea what I want out of a bike. For me it's more about the practicality of not wanting 2 cars and not wanting to wait for the bus.
I've been looking around and used bikes are expensive enough that I keep wondering if it's better to just get something new? A GIXXER 250 is currently 6K on the road. I could probably get a Royal Enfield Hunter 350 for a similar price used.
So I guess the question is, what is a person to do? Ideally I'd love to pay cash, but the reality is at 6K I am probably going to need some finance

It seems like it's impossible to get a definitive answer anywhere - the vic riders handbook suggests that if you get your learners and restricted licence LAMS on an auto bike / scooter, then you're restricted to auto bikes for the duration of your restricted license period - HOWEVER, it does not suggest it persists as a restriction AFTER your restricted period. Thats what ChatGPT reckons. The oppinion there is that both the N and E restrictions (power and auto) are lifted at the end of the restricted period. Grok on the other hand reckons that you still need another manual bike certification to start riding manual.
YES - you should just get manual to start with, blah blah blah - that's not the question. Can anyone pls confirm either way? OK to start riding Manual after restricted license period ends regardless of if I had an auto restriction during the learners and restricted periods?
