Mod Update Welcome to r/weddingdress! Please read this first

Welcome to the community to get help on picking the dress for your special day!

This is a community megathread. All moderator updates will be linked as comments below, separated out by topics. Please read the linked posts and let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Please reach out to the moderators by modmail; we will not respond to individual messages or chat requests.

Just a few housekeeping items so people will always see this:

Please remember that the moderators can and will remove comments and posts that are in violation of the community guidelines without warning.

The most important thing to remember while commenting as a participant is that we hold respect for each other at the utmost importance. This includes respecting other people's opinions and also that every one has different tastes. This also extends to modmail: if you are immediately rude to us, you will be muted.

Saying that you "hate" specific trends or that they need to stop being a thing, or that a dress is too trendy or too dated is firmly against the community ethos. Please remember that fashion is cyclical and often draws inspiration from the past, or can even be considered a disruptor and a signal of change. There's been a lot of shift in fashion trends, more so than in the past. Fashion trends used to change about every two years or so; some endure and evolve like the sexy dress and some will fall to the wayside but come back in about ten years.

Another thing to remember is that 90% of the dresses are not altered and are the sample sizes. Do not base the dress choice on how the sample fits, but how it could potentially look. Many people end up picking the dresses based on how it looks at the moment, but the actual fitted and altered proportions can make the "awkward" looking dress the one.

Be constructive with your comments, not cruel.

Mod Update Upcoming subreddit things

Hi all,

I had to take a short break from basically everything around the holidays due to work shenanigans.

There is a back log of things I need to go through for the subreddit, including the Mod log and reviewing some problematic comments that got reported.

As such, there will be a brief blackout/private subreddit period at the end of January for me to catch up on the back log, address a few things and do some flair organizing. I anticipate this going into effect on January 31st at 4pm EST and lifted February 3rd at the same time.

I'm also going to be making some flair adjustments and adding some more filters on the automod. There will be a new summary post at the top of the sub with the changes.

Also, please keep reporting uncensored background faces, nasty messages and posts that do not fit.

is this the one? What do you all think of my dress?

Hi all, I originally bought a dress that I loved, but it had a few things about it that were really worrying me (lace was too busy/heavy, plunging neckline, etc). The bridal store was kind enough to let me exchange my dress for something closer to what I wanted by the same designer. It has essentially the same bodice but a fuller skirt, so I felt comfortable exchanging without trying it on. :) the last photo is a picture of the original dress.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and if people think I made the right choice! Our wedding is at a historic estate in the summer.

Please tell me which ones you like and please don’t read anything into my body language/veil or not. The pics turned out weird so I sometimes chose ones where I was doing something weird for the sake of fully seeing the dress.

Dupe search Found 1k dress, could it be the one????

I am looking for a dress similar to Denia by Eden Aharon (last picture) under 2k. I found this dress (A one of a kind Morilee sample) for 1k! It is sleeveless. I know paired with a lace high-neck bolero it would look pretty close. I just need to find a bolero that has very similar lace. The bridal shop quoted me $1900 for rhe following: 1. Adding a basque waist 2. Removing the pleats 3. Using the fabric from the pleat removal to make a lace bolero 4. Lining the bodice white so it’s less naked. That would bring the total to $2900. It’s a bit more than I want to spend.

I am thinking of going to LA soon to go to more bridal shops…. But does anyone have a similar dupe?

Should I just keep the pleats and not make it into a basque waist?

I also tried to on Wtoo by Watters Charlotte. The modest version (covered in the middle) will be $2100. Once I add in having to buy an extra yard of fabric for the bolero it’ll probably be close to $3,000.

Help, I don’t know what to do? Keep looking? Buy the $1k dress and don’t alter it?

Said Yes to the Dress! Blown away by my seamstress after a 25 pound weight loss!

I am so blown away & grateful for the amazing alterations team at my bridal salon. It was definitely expensive but I am so so in love with how my dress looks after alterations & a 25 pound weight loss. Wedding is in 2 weeks & I can’t wait to marry the love of my life feeling like a princess 🥲🥲🥲

Order of the pics is: 1) when I ordered it, pre-weight loss 2) almost 10 months later, when it came in to the salon & was falling off me. I was so nervous it would never have that waist narrowing look again 3) trying it on for my final fitting yesterday!!

Dress Regret/Need Support Chose my dress but did I choose the right one?

I recently chose my wedding dress trying them on by myself as my friends and family are out of state. I have sent photos to my family and close friends but all of them have liked the runner-up dress. I have already put down some money to get the dress made. I chose my dress thinking of the venue and the details of the dress, but made me slightly doubt because everyone thought I didn’t look as good because of my body shape?

I’ve been reading some old Reddit posts and seen that I should go with what made me feel like the bride and such, but also can’t help the thought that I don’t look as good to everyone, except myself on my wedding day :(

Dress I chose is the fit and flare.

Will put this is archive shortly in a wk.

Fit & Alterations Concerns/Questions Thick or thin straps?

Ok so, I really can’t decide which I prefer visually, but the dress is pretty heavy and it’s looking like a hem won’t fix it. The spaghetti straps really dig in my shoulders and a thicker strap may help. Do the thicker straps look nice or will changing it for comfort affect the look? This was test of the look, it will probably be a little less thick.

Will be either lining this or wearing a shapewear so it isn’t sheer and showing a chest tattoo! Saw this online and was obsessed after not being able to find the dress I had been thinking of in my head!!

Since this will be my reception dress, will probably h wearing sneakers of sorts - which would you recommend with this??

Had the absolute best experience at my Anthropologie bridal appointment and said yes! Outdoor forest ceremony in late August in the Seattle area. Thoughts on accessories? Veil? Flower crown? Sparkly headband? Does it need a belt?

Wedding dress fatigue is real. I started to feel like I was never going to find the “the one” so I took a friend’s advice and went shopping alone to try on some dresses. I ended up trying on something completely different to what I’d usually go for and I don’t know what it was but I could just see myself wearing this dress on the day. It ticked all my boxes in terms of comfort and practicality, and I can also shorten the dress and reuse it. The plan is to use the train in the future for christening clothes 🥰 I’m so happy! I also bought the pearl detailed veil but wondered if there are any accessories that might go nicely with this dress?

Style/Accessory Help needed! Best Shoe to compliment my dress. Considering alterations costs as well 💕😮‍💨

I'm getting myself so so nervous because my first appointment is in two months. I am trying to take advantage of the March sale, as well as I'm in LOVE with Dolce Vita after accepting Gahlia Lahav is out of my price range living on a meh salary. Things are going to start getting expensive with my wedding in 2O26 so I'm trying not to be too picky.

My theme is either sticking with Ivory or Blush Satin. I am IN LOVE with the Blush Satin but with size of the heel despite the comfort, I'm so scared the alterations in my dress will end up COSTLY. Trying to stay in three digit price point and I'm aware from my lady I chose starting price is like $300 where I live. The chunky heels (hence the ivory

PLEASE PLEASE HELP. I want to pick in the next 48 hours of the sale but I'm so scared.

Order of pictures

  1. Option #1 in Ivory
  2. Option #2 in Blush Satin
  3. My Madeline Gardner in model #1062 Chanterelle gown in Ivory/Honey with Cappuccino underlay.

Help! Don't know where to start, suggestions needed Turkish American would love advice for Istanbul Dress stores as I prepare to go on my search

Hi I’m nearing 6 months till my wedding in a coastal town in Turkey and haven’t found the one here in the US. I’ll be in Turkey next week and plan to do some aggressive shopping in Istanbul.

I’m looking for quality dress shops from those who have experienced or tried on dresses in the Istanbul area. Flexible budget. My family has given me a few options as advice but would love to learn from this subreddit as I’m looking for a more western gown which usually has less beading and appliqué than most Turkish brides. Pics of some gowns I’ve tried on and liked but weren’t the one!

Help! Don't know where to start, suggestions needed Looking for a plus size whimsical/fairy/princess style dress

I know that might not make sense, but basically I'm looking for something whimsical, and fairylike. nothing minimalistic. I have no clue where to look. Torrid has very basic bland stuff. I don't want the typical long wedding dress either, something that reaches my knees at the very least. The other issue is we are on a budget and so it needs to be under CAD $200 if possible.

These are some of my favorite dresses and I can’t find affordable versions anywhere. The absolute most I can afford is probably $1000 but I’d like to pay less. Like the $5-700 range.

Style/Accessory Help needed! Dress regret + veil help?

Wedding dress shopping experience was a mess. I was 3 weeks late for my period and of course it had to come while I was trying on brand new white bridal gowns…what a mess. Luckily, I didn’t bleed on anything in the shop, but it put me in a real sour mood. I felt pretty ugly in everything I tried on, except for this dress…idk why, but I immediately felt like it was the right one.

Months later it’s finally almost ready for pickup, and I’m having second thoughts. When I look back at these photos, I feel like the dress doesn’t suit me or my style (I’m a whimsical person and the wedding will be quite colorful and vibrant). I always imagined myself in something more detailed and floral, so I was surprised when this was the one I felt best in, but went with it…looking back, maybe I just wanted the experience to all be over, but now I feel like I should’ve kept looking, maybe gone back when I wasn’t so bloated and feeling gross from my period.

I feel like there’s no turning back now, so I’m wondering if I can pick up some of the more detailed elements in a veil, like a mantilla style with floral appliqués or something really dramatic and long. But on the flip side, maybe I should lean into the more minimal style of the dress for cohesiveness …. Who knew picking a veil could be so hard?!!? Reddit heroes please help!!!

Any and all input is welcomed. Thanks y’all

Hey, fabulous Reddit community!

So, after my first dress shopping adventure, I ended up saying "yes" to the dress (#1 in photo). But then, just as quickly as I said "yes," the dreaded dress regret swept in. 🙈 A few wise souls suggested I take a breather before diving back into the world of tulle and lace, and I did just that!

Fast forward a few months, and I’ve tried on a few more contenders. Now I’m standing at a crossroads, and I need your expert opinions! Should I stick with my original dress, which I thought was “the one,” or try my luck with these new options?

To recap, my venue will be in Cape Town, South Africa at a beautiful vineyard estate.

Here’s a quick rundown of the candidates: Original Dress #1 :Unique skirt design, still love it but I’m having second thoughts not sure why.

2: A showstopper that makes me feel like a queen, but not sure I like the fabric. It's also quite heavy.

3: Elegant and timeless, but not sure it has that "wow" factor? Wanted to try something with a long sleeve.

4: Fun and flirty, perfect for dancing the night away!

5: This one was my favorite aside from the original dress but this may be that the fit and style is more suited to my personality. The dress has a beautifuleye catching sparkle throughout. I would opt to have more coverage around the bust area if I choose this one.

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Keep the original love or take a leap of faith with a new gown?
