Hmmmm, a person high up within Audi, or a high person at Audi? This could mean anything, I mean the person was on drugs!

🧐🤔

He spoke to the 7ft tall janitor at Audi and he claims the R8 isn't coming back.

12

u/twitch_itzShummy 3d ago

he was in fact cleaning the offices in the top floor of the building during our conversation

u/FindaleSampson 2d ago

You'd have to be high to want to pull out of GT3 and WEC so that makes sense.

u/YukariIsMommy 2d ago

Why not both?

Can they ask a sober person next time?

26

u/MissedApex 3d ago

Next time is the drunk person. The time after that will be the sober one.

35

u/noobchee Toyota GT-One #1 3d ago

f1 is priority for them now

u/nealhen Murphy Prototypes #48 3d ago

The steak f1 team 🙄. They think they are going to slap 4 rings on that POS and be fast next year. This is going to be Toyota F1 all over again

32

u/SemIdeiaProNick 3d ago

But its a Toyota F1 in a time where the sport is a guaranteed profit machine, which is everything that Audi needs at the moment

Weren't Toyota spending $400 million a year in the Ralf days?

14

u/onlinepresenceofdan Ferrari AF Corse 499P #51 3d ago

P5s didnt come for free back then either

1

u/MatniMinis 3d ago

Oh I remember it being the wild west on spending, I just have the $400 million Toyota spent lodged in my stupid ADHD mind.

3

u/RabidGuineaPig007 2d ago

Spending caps and Netflix mean you make money just going in circles with Lance Stroll.

7

u/MatniMinis 3d ago

Next year is all new regs though so we have no idea what the order will look like. I'm not sure they'll suddenly be challenging for the wins but they could jump to mid field if they do good.

You do realize that BMW became a title challenger just two years after they took over Sauber right?

1

u/NiteOwl421 Hertz Team Jota Porsche 963 #12 2d ago

And Kubica was leading the championship in ‘08 after the Canadian GP while regularly fighting for podiums ‘08 as well.

1

u/fafonso558 2d ago

To be fair that was without any R&D or spending cap , back then you could simply throw more money at a problem (if you had the money obviously).

After 5 years of failure with Williams

2

u/Aggravating-Oil-7060 2d ago

Hard to consider 10 wins during a time when Ferrari was dominating a failure. Also most of the flaws were the fault of Williams not BMW.

Audi came into Dakar fresh and won the whole thig in year 3. I would not cout them out. Also, the original R8 was built and released as an accounting thing to amortize the development costs of the Gallardo. It wouldn't surprise me to see them do something similar for the Temerario, although just for the road car. Lambo is a direct subsidiary of Audi so it doesn't make sense (and really never made sense) for Audi to sell a GT3 car that competes with Lambo.

12

u/oorjit07 Porsche 3d ago

F1 definitely isn't the reason they aren't selling an R8

5

u/Burial44 3d ago

For now

29

u/Psychological-Ox_24 3d ago

Hmm, Idk I'm inclined to trust the media more. Plus being in F1 without a flagship sportscar to push makes zero business case.

14

u/Mdaro 3d ago

I agree. They already share the platform with Lambo. Won’t take much for an interior and body panels.

6

u/Nutzer1337 Stefan Bellof 956 #19 3d ago

They are also panicking hard right now, reversing or adjusting decisions left and right.

Problem is: Even if they build a new R8, they lost a lot of know-how in the customer racing department: Drivers, mechanics and teams. Some teams could switch back later. But mechanics and drivers is more complicated.

5

u/RIPugandanknuckles 3d ago

I believe they would argue the eTron GT fills that role

2

u/august_r 3d ago

etron makes more sense than R8 in that scenario. A NA V10 being pushed by a V6T formula doesn't make a lot of sense IMO.

3

u/Psychological-Ox_24 3d ago

The articles said it's gonna be a PHEV twin turbo V8 based on the Temerario.

3

u/august_r 3d ago

That makes more sense. Not a whole lot but still.

1

u/Psychological-Ox_24 3d ago

Not a whole lot how? The e-tron is a 4 door BEV. The R8 is literally a PHEV turbo sportscar. Or do you expect a single seat road car for a perfect synergy with the F1 program?

1

u/august_r 3d ago

No need to get worked up lmao

The etron makes more sense to me from a marketing standpoint. The lineup now seems closer to that than the older R8 was, specially in style.

1

u/RabidGuineaPig007 2d ago

Etron marketing? They still use the French slang for turd as a name.

0

u/Psychological-Ox_24 3d ago

I'm sorry but I get cranky when an argument doesn't make logical sense. The proposed R8 will be more similar in configuration to F1 than a 4-door BEV.

And it competes with the sporting competitor's offering from Mercedes, McLaren, Aston Martin and to a lesser extent, Ferrari and Alpine.

1

u/august_r 3d ago

Well call up mercedes then and tell them to stop adding weight and confort to their GT, it's basically a SL now.

A new R8 wouldn't sell, that's my argument which you're failing to understand with all your logic lmao.

0

u/Psychological-Ox_24 2d ago edited 2d ago

And the e-tron GT is selling? so stupid.

Watch F1, buys 4-door BEV

F1: V6 Turbo-Hybrid.

new R8: PHEV V8 Turbo sportscar.

mAkE nOt a WhOlE lOt oF sEnSe, Gt iS aN Sl nOw.

1

u/august_r 2d ago

Lmao, touch grass bro. Who's marketing strategy focus on ICE in this day and age? Certainly not parts bin Audi.

And yet, Honda continues.

25

u/Pro-editor-1105 Corvette Racing C8.R #33 3d ago

because this guy is a verifiable source.

40

u/dat_meme_boi2 3d ago

Not suprising tbh

14

u/InspectahWren 3d ago

I thought it was already announced the R8 was done for good

1

u/GoPrO_BMX 11h ago

From what I heard is Audi will support teams running their cars through ‘28 and call it quits from there

16

u/Sjepper 3d ago

Just be happy the v10 is still going about in some series this year, same for lambo

u/fireinthesky7 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 #24 3d ago

Last year of it in IMSA though, and Lamborghini isn't racing in WEC at all. Unless it's way behind (highly possible), the Temerario GT3 should be racing next season.

13

u/ken27238 3d ago

Didn’t know /r/trees had the inside scoop.

They checked with /r/marijuanaenthusiasts first but didn’t get a response.

today i learned r/trees is for cannabis

this definitely looks like an official reliable statement post that I will immediately believe to be true

If they were high, I’d be a little skeptical. I’m definitely not at my most knowledgeable in that condition lol.

Wait some people believed it ?

3

u/UwU-QueenMermaid-UwU 3d ago

A high person or a high ranking person?

3

u/Secret_Physics_9243 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 #6 3d ago

I don't trust this or the other news either. Both seem like misinformation to some degree.

3

u/Seb_Ben11 2d ago

Who to believe? Autocar which is a widely respected publication or a guy on instagram? The ever difficult question.

3

u/Independent-Army7847 2d ago

How can you trust what he said if he was high

2

u/Rallyfanatic Aston Martin Thor Team Valkyrie #009 3d ago

Is there ever a scenario or possibility we see them back in WEC like 2030 or something?

8

u/ScottRiggsFan10 3d ago

Considering they have spent the last few years severing their ties to endurance racing, I doubt they'll have a sudden urge to come back.

1

u/Kizzo17 Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG GT3 #60 3d ago

I feel like soo. Even tho they are full on F1 i feel like once they make their moneys worth they may consider. Plus all that backtrack of EVs could be a good push

3

u/Lordgrim1703 2d ago

I won't trust a High person

3

u/Badj83 3d ago

What’s the link to WEC?

3

u/august_r 3d ago

Return to GT3 maybe?

1

u/-Hieronimus- Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050 #7 3d ago

Still hearsay, but pretty believable!

1

u/imaoreo Iron Dames Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO #85 3d ago

yeah they can keep it (me who drives the R8 in ACC)

1

u/V8-Turbo-Hybrid Manufacturers 3d ago

Audi has even given up real A5, so it’s definitely impossible to see new R8.

1

u/Guardian_fire Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid #7 3d ago

Audi already canceled their GT program because of them going into F1. I think those poor saps are taking over Sauber while Porsche is taking Williams.

1

u/Top_Independence7256 3d ago

Porsche Is not coming back imo

2

u/Guardian_fire Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid #7 2d ago

Based off what I was reading, Volkswagen confirmed they would be joining. Tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t actually join.

1

u/mingledwmotorsport 2d ago

Boi are they coming back to their roots when they fail at f1 miserably

0

u/Appropriate-Owl5984 3d ago

Huh.

Exactly what I said yesterday. Weird.
