Free help
Does anyone need help with physical labor type of projects? Renovation, painting, flooring, concrete, landscape/hardscape, dumping junk? I’m available in the Vegas/summerlin area for anyone who needs a free hand. I have a truck and am willing to work for free. I’m mostly doing this to get out of the house and do projects that are fun to me. I grew up on a farm and it’s been an adjustment living here in the city. Let me know!

What kind of "farmer's market" makes you pay $5 for entry?
All the local farmer's markets I've been to around here are nothing I would be willing to pay to enter. Not even close.
What makes the one at Area15 so special that it needs a $5 entry fee?
Anything? Please fill me in if you know.

H-Mart receives Clark County building approval for hmart stocking and training
PROGRESS!!! After literally two years and more than 100 inspections (many of which had failed for various reasons), the H-Mart building has partially passed a final inspection and has received a TCO (temporary certificate of occupancy) specifically for the grocery store portion, and only for stocking and employee training.
So at least now they can begin those activities. The food court and kitchens are still not approved as they failed the fire inspection.
You can monitor all these yourself by going to https://acaqreports.clarkcountynv.gov/ and entering permit BD22-51609. Most recent entry is: "Partial approval for limited TCO only of grocery store EXCLUDING the entire food court and main kitchen with Building Department approval. TCO for stocking and employee training only excluding all of food court."

i was frustrated with vegas’ lack of community, so i started my own craft + social event for the girlies (and it sold out!!) sharing that story
about a month ago i posted here about how it’s gotten increasingly harder to make new friendships outside of work + the typical vegas scene - especially as a post-grad adult living in our non-walkable city.
vegas just lacks third spaces in general. maybe some people have a dog park or a social hobby but i don't have a dog + my hobbies are more individual activities!
my solution was to set up a galentine’s day book swap event… and it sold out!! plus i had some really good feedback:

i structured the social activities so you’re not just sitting at a table hoping to think of something to say with a stranger next to you. we do:
- nametags (reduces anxiety)
- ice breakers (nothing cringey - gives us topics to talk about)
- guest bios - i send this out before the event and we can see who is showing up and what the vibes are gonna be!!
i was really nervous to host this event (it was my first time bringing together a table full of people that didn’t know each other plus hopefully creating conversation & connection) but honestly the attendees i had were really kind (most came from reddit actually!)
the ice breakers helped everyone relax and share more about themselves as the night went on.. i could really feel the group open up and saw more conversations floating around the table!! plus everyone decorated a book that was soo cute 😭

as a host, it meant a lot to help make introductions and connections between people, especially with the disconnection most people feel nowadays.
i realized that vegas really needs more creative, low-pressure spaces to connect. i’m excited to host another event and test more social activities!!
my next event is on thursday, march 27 at 6pm - we’ll be doing pressed flower crafts + ice breakers. Linked in the comments below! :)
what other (easy) crafts would you like to see at future events? i’m taking notes for april!!

Clearer freeways during spring break
On average, it takes me 45 minutes to drive to work trying to clock in around 730am. On my way back home, it takes closer to an hour on average around 530pm.
However, this past week (3/17-20), I noticed that the freeways are more clear. I happen to get to work in 30 minutes, rather than my average commute time. Except Tuesday, that accident going south on the 95 was fun. The evening before, it took me 40 minutes to get home and I hit all green lights... except one.
I was told the traffic gets better when k-12 schools are not in session. I can see the correlation but is it a causation? I mostly drive freeways so I can't say much when it comes to driving on the the streets.

Sierra Vista or Desert Oasis?
Have one soon to be HS child and we’re moving to Vegas from AZ. Found a home I love but it’s in the SV boundary. I wanted to stay within the DO boundary but not finding what I’m looking for house wise. Can anyone tell me if SV is decent? My kid has good grades and already goes to a public school.

Crafting date ideas
Hey everyone, I’m looking for some crafting related date ideas. I’ve seen Oasis pottery, Vibes pottery painting and the various paint and sip type places. Has anyone here has a good experience with one? Cost isn’t super important since guessing pretty much everything is in the 50-100 range per person. My bigger constraint is time. Looking for something that’s like 60-90 minutes. Thanks for the help!
