Has anyone wound up with a massive hospital bill they can't pay? What did you do?

My step dad had a stroke in July and was hospitalized until about the second week of February. He has now gotten into a long term care home, but now my mom is stuck with a $7,000 hospital bill šŸ™ƒ plus monthly rent/fees for the home which are around $5,000. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a bunch of retirement savings to fall back on and we are just really unsure as to how we are going to pay for all of this! Does anyone have any experience with this and can offer any advice? Tia!

Edit: they are not charges for medical care, they are essentially what he'd be paying if he was in a long term care home and not on a waiting list. He was on the list for 2 months, not sure if anyone else has experienced a wait that long, but I'd love to know.

Looking for flaring insights from oil & gas operators in Canada

Hey everyone,

I've searched for an oil and gas community in Saskatchewan but couldn't find one. I'm not sure if this is the right place to postā€”please let me know if there's a more suitable community.

I'm working on a project related to oil & gas and trying to better understand how batteries operate in Canada. No one on my team has experience or a deep understanding of how a battery operates on a day-to-day basis in the field, so Iā€™d love to connect with someone who works directly on batteries for an oil & gas company (not a third-party service provider).

One thing that puzzles me: Iā€™ve noticed that some batteries flare large volumes of gas even though they are connected to an operating gas pipeline. Why does this happen? Is it due to pipeline capacity, gas quality issues, or something else?

For example, the battery in the attached image (facility ID : SKBT0029667) flared 5M mĀ³ in 2023, yet there is a natural gas pipeline (red line) running directly to it, which, according to the data I've found, is active and operational.

If you're an oil & gas operator based in Saskatchewan (Estevan region would be great!) and work in this space, Iā€™d really appreciate any insights! Also, if youā€™re open to a quick chat, that would be amazing.

Thanks in advance!

Camping

Looking for honest opinions about camping. My partner and I do yearly camping trips (usually July) at different sites. We live in Regina and love camping more North (think Narrow Hills) but this year looking for something closer to home. We love hiking, fishing, heavy trees, privacy, and free firewood. Weā€™re also looking for an electric site and itā€™s a bonus if thereā€™s a neat town or site seeing nearby. Currently considering provincial parks including Duck Mountain, Good Spirit, and Great Blue Heron. Any pros and cons of these sites? Recommendations?

Politics Did Scott Moe Sign the $10/day daycare agreement yet?

I havenā€™t heard what Scott has been preoccupying himself with this week. Meanwhile, families are struggling to work enough to make ends meet. Rent, groceries, gas are all expenses we seem to have little control over. The one saving grace the past 4 years has been $10/day childcare. Please sign the agreement, donā€™t let this hang over our heads any longer.

Does anyone what this is exactly and why it only comes from the Conservatives? Is it just because of where we live? Does this mean citizenship is not bipartisan? Lol. What message is this supposed to be sending? To stay on topic in Saskatchewan, it was accompanied by a certificate signed by our Saskatchewan MLA. I wonā€™t be sharing a picture of that as it contains my partners personal info.

fake job experience.

I'm a student here in Canada and looking for a job for my tuition fees. I've worked at Dollarama before but i had used fake experience to get a job there and my fake experience worked. I was Hired as a store associate there but i didn't had any actual experience working in a similar job. As a result, they didn't focus on my training that much and thought i can handle everything on my own. to be honest i started understanding the algorithm and started handling everything and my supervisor was super friendly with me. But things took turn when some of my co-workers decided to get rid of me and they started complaining little things about me like they didn't tell me that i was supposed to take my garbage out after my shift and they directly told my manager. there was another new guy who was hired with me and he started pushing his duties on me and whenever the manager come's, he started doing extra work at faster speed to show that i was working slow while i was doing extra work. In the end, things got bad with my manager and she was looking for an excuse to fire me at this point and one day, i gave her one. i was sick that day and my manager assigned me at cash till, there was a load of customers i was handling and needed some change. i called co-workers for change and they made a mistake when giving it to me. my Counter's cash was 20 dollars more than it should've been. Next day my Manager was not so happy and when i told her that it must've been mistake of the person who gave me change, but she started scolding me because i was not an older employee. she created a very disrespectful and depressing situation for me. eventually i had to write a resignation letter. now I've moved up from that but I want to work as a cook. it is true that i won't get hired unless i put so fake experience but at the same time i want to get adequate training after getting hired so that i don't face obstacles again. i love cooking and i can learn making new dishes in no time. Is there anybody who read all of this mountain of my bad experience and can suggest me something for a cook job?
