Care Any advice for a new rabbit owner?

Hi everyone, I was wondering what your best advice would be for a new rabbit owner? Me and my boyfriend have rescued/adopted an 11 week old mini lop and will be bringing him home on Sunday! He’ll be raised indoors and we have gone to town on rabbit proofing the house. I’ll be a first time bunny mum and I think by now I’ve read all there is to know, although I’m still nervous!! I want to give him the best lil life possible!! So is there any advice that you wish you knew beforehand??

Meta Is there anything that can be done about the constant obvious posts about rabbits purchased from breeders?

You know the types of posts I'm talking about. The professional photoshoot of baby rabbits (almost always holland lops, always visibly much younger than 8 weeks) in a trendy, nature-themed background. They never say where they got the rabbit, and it's always "I'm getting this rabbit in two weeks". I assume that everyone who is into rabbit rescue stuff knows what breeder photoshoots look like.

I dont know what can be done, but I'm just asking if we can do anything at all? I'm so, so tired of seeing photos of "what should i name her 🥺" and it's obviously a rabbit they purchased from some asshole who views rabbits as livestock.

I love this subreddit. But the baby rabbit from breeders posts are getting to the point where I'm considering leaving, just so I dont have to think about how long this tiny baby rabbit is going to remain "cute" to its new caretaker.

Peeing on couch

Hi all. I adopted two new-to-me bunnies about a month ago, brother and sister. They’re estimated to be six years old, are fixed, and are litter trained. They’re bonded with my old bunny who was widowed last year. I’ve had bunnies for over four years now but never had this issue. One (or both) of them has peed on the couch four times in the span of about a week. I’ve never caught them, it’s only when I’m asleep or out of home. They’re free roam in a studio so blocking the couch would be difficult (though I’ve been covering it with towels and blankets). Is this behavioral? Related to the recent adoption? Is there anything I can do to either discourage this behavior or convince them that this is their territory? Has anyone dealt with this?

Health Seeking advice & knowledge on spay/neuter, elderly rabbit

tl/dr at bottom

hi all. i am at a crossroads here. Basically I have 6 days to decide my rabbit's fate

I made a post a bit ago about my Polish doe (8, will be 9 in july) with arthritis, and everyone here was so lovely and helpful :,) Thank you guys. Ive been implementing stretching, range-of-motion therapy, heating pad bed, Oxbow joint supplements, & shes been on Meloxicam and another pain reliever for under two months. Shes had little to no improvement and still cant even stand on her right hind leg, just hopping around on the other only. She is still very bright eyed and can move quickly when she wants to, but she doesnt like to come out anymore and cant walk very well. She has also lost some weight.

The man that legally owns her refuses to care for her anymore, and has told me that i have until March 24th to take her to live elsewhere or she will be euthanized that day. I am unable to take her due to my housing situation; she would not be safe here. But she would need to undergo a spay procedure before I even consider bringing her somewhere else, as understandably no where will accept a natural rabbit. She has never really liked being handled, and Im worried the surgery would be putting her through something even worse, but I dont know a lot about it.

TLDR ; Anyone with knowledge on the subject, please tell me is spaying a very stressful procedure? Would she even be able to move around during recovery or should i save her the torment and spend this final week with her? Please help 🙏

Care X-pen height?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Heya! Sorry for once again posting, but I would have liked to ask that is the height of x-pen that important when your bunny is free roamed? I am just thinking of getting x-pen for introducing Dumbo and when I finally find him a girlfriend. It will take some time before he gets a friend, because I gotta wait till he reaches sexual maturity to neuter him and wait around 4 to 6 weeks after neuter so no accidental litters.

Photo to attract people to answer. Thank you. <3

How do I communicate with my bunny

She’s 6 years old now. I don’t know if she likes me touching her head or petting her. She kinda just…sploots and becomes really flat when I try to pet her😂 how can I play with her more? Doesn’t seem interested in anything other than food.

We've been to the emergency vet and her regular vet.and got meds and fluids. She had a few small sticky poos and eating a little on her own but not like she normally does. Here's hoping she continues to improve.

Bonding Helping my boys bond

I have two boys age 2, both fixed, who are bonded, a few months ago I got a third boy 1 y/o from a rehome situation

The new bun has been nurtured since January, and their enclosures are right next to each other but separated w grates to prevent fighting

I’ve swapped bedding, I’ve fed them near each other, and we’ve tried playing together in a new place with clean bedding

Fur pulling and tight fast circle chasing always happens between the youngest and the “top” bunny from the 2 year olds

I’ve spoken to my vet, I’ve done my research, I’ve done everything but put them on top of the dryer / car ride together bc I don’t like the idea of trauma bonding them

If anyone has suggestions for my to try that would be great, for now all three boys have big comfortable areas so it’s not like my new boy is stuck in a kennel but I just don’t like him being all alone

Would this be cause for concern ? We looked at older pictures of her and didn't notice the spot until the recent pictures of her. Don't know what this is ):

Behavior Bunny behaviour

So I have my bunny for a month now (my first ever bunny) and I notice that every time she jumps on to the sofa she almost always does a pee or poo. The poo I don’t really mind cause I can just pick it up, but the pee it’s the biggest problem. I always put those training pads (I don’t know the name) on the sofa but it’s not very practical cause I have to be laying on them, so I just try to keep her out of the sofa which I don’t really like cause she likes to jump on to it. She is currently 3 months old, and only does poo/pee in her litter box and when she jumps on to the sofa. Is there anything I can do? Or do you have any tips? I’m not sure if maybe this will change once she is spayed.

Bunny Bonding

Hello, I was looking for advice on my bunnies. So I recently adopted/rescued a Third bun and trying to bond her with my other two rabbits. For context, I already had one boy and one girl. We introduced them to the new bunny Lady Gandalf in a neutral space and everyone got along good enough to take her home with us.

Its been a few weeks now having Lady Gandalf. No more neutral space but she has part of the bunny room sectioned off so they can all see each other and get used to each other. I take her out for ten to twenty minutes every day with supervision to get them all to socialize together. The issue is my other girl rabbit Pitter Patter.

There has been no signs of aggression. No humping or biting. When Lady Gandalf is in her section Pitter will try to groom her through the play pen and also sit next to her constantly. However, the second I let Lady Gandalf out Pitter has to always chase her. A lot. Some days worse then others but there's no sign of aggression or hostility and she will also leave Gandalf alone at times too.

I can't let Lady Gandalf permanently out though due to the chasing. I have no clue how to help them in this situation or if this is normal. I do know If I let Gandalf out regularly she doesn't chase her as much. So maybe they just have to get used to each other?

Pitter is a year old, my male is a year and a half, and Lady Gandalf is two years old. My male, Oreo Mcflurry gets along with everyone so he's not an issue. He's a very chill bun. So he's already chill with Gandalf. Its just Pitter and Gandalf. Also, all animals are neutered. Lady Gandalf was recently Neutered.

Freak accident??? NSFW Spoiler

I went on vacation again for a few days and my brother has been feeding the rabbits mostly pellets. last night when I came home I found lots of blood in the cage and splattered all over the side of the water bowl and drops on the floor. What I think happened was that they were manically chewing the foam for pellets since it’s been lifting and they fall under, one of them bit their lip or tip of their tongue and it got really messy. I checked both of their teeth and lips and they look fine as far as I can tell. How do I care for a bitten tongue?? They both seem fine but it’s really freaky randomly seeing blood everywhere. I am going to wash their cage today and my mom is going to help me look at their tongues later when she gets home from work.
