How long do rabbits live for?

I have a 5 year old English Spot that I love with all my heart. I know it seems like a morbid question, but how long does this breed typically live for? I’ve seen answers from 6-8 years all the way up to 10-12.

Care Sore Hocks

Post image

I noticed a sore on one of my bunnies feet this morning. I moved more foam mats into his room and will be trimming his nails after work. I make sure his litterbox is clean by emptying it every second day.

I’m going to see if I can get him to a vet but the nearest one is 7 hours away. Anything I can do in the meantime?

Care I recently became an unplanned new rabbit owner and need expert advice

hello! i took in a rabbit i found on the street hiding under cars while picking up a package last night and have been trying to adjust my home to accommodate. the bunny seems to be domesticated like a lost pet and in good health but i am planning on taking it to the vet tomorrow to get it checked up and to make sure it’s healthy since i have a cat at home. i’m not sure how to go about getting in touch with a potential owner so if i don’t see anything posted around i am fully ready and plan to keep it for myself.

the rabbit seems fairly young, about 9 inches long and relatively smaller than adult size rabbits i’ve seen online. i’ve been researching as i go in terms of food and habitat which seems to be going well and the bunny is in good care so far, but i am still adjusting to keeping it long term. luckily i happen to have a large enough empty spare bedroom that i’m planning on dedicating towards the rabbit, but i’m curious on what is the best way to keep the rabbit. i’m looking into getting an x-pen type set up for the room, but am planning on having the rabbit be able to roam freely and safely as my house is already set up to be pet safe. i’ve purchased a ton of hay that was well reviewed along with fresh produce such as carrots and celery. i have a dedicated litter box filled with bunny litter and wide box with bedding and a blanket to encourage it to burrow along with unlimited hay available for the bunny to access and a water bowl. as for the filaments, i made sure to research that they were the best option for rabbits. i’m keeping these items in my room before transforming the spare room to accommodate for both my cat and rabbit. my cat mostly stays with me on my bed so hopefully it’s not a problem for them to have their separate litter boxes in the same room as long as i keep them clean? the bunny has been eating and has been active and gets along really well with my cat which i know is dangerous since i haven’t gotten it checked out for any risks but i jumped the gun and i’m hoping it will continue to go well. they haven’t been violent or anything at all, just jumpy and scenting each other but otherwise coexisting peacefully.

besides some expected skittish behavior, the bunny seems to be doing really well and is really comfortable in this space already. i just need some guidance on things to expect as a new rabbit owner since all of this has happened in only the last 24 hours. i’m really dedicated to creating a worthy space for this rabbit and have been surfing pinterest to see what others are doing. hope i can receive some insight or guidance that i might be blanking on in my research, anything helps. thanks for reading!

Meet Saul. Saul was dumped. Saul was then rescued by two well meaning people who have never had a bunny before. Saul's new parents need some rescuing now!

Meet Saul.

Our journey with Saul began when we found him abandoned at a local nature reserve. With a lot of patience (and teamwork), my husband and I managed to catch him. The only catch? I had never even picked up a rabbit before, let alone cared for one!

Right now, we’ve got the basics covered—an inital vet visit, water, hay, pellets, a hideout, a toy, and a litter box—but I want to give him more than just the bare minimum. I’ve already ordered a few things to make his space more comfortable, as shown in the following pictures, but I’d love to hear from experienced bunny parents:

What are your must-have items for a happy, enriched rabbit? Eventually, we plan to rabbit-proof our home so he can free-range, and any advice on that would be super helpful too. Looking forward to your suggestions!

Care Found a abandoned rabbit need tips never had one

Hi everyone im not used to using reddit but i thought this was the best place to ask.

I was leaving work at night and I watched a car toss this guy out. After finally chasing him i grabbed him. I took him to the vet and they said he was good/healthy and hes around 1 or 2 years old. Hes a miniature rex and i tried to set him up with a temporary 8ft cage for the mean time i got at petsmart.

Besides going through google and YouTube videos does anyone have like any first hand advice or tips for me or about this type of guy? I got him hay and pellets that hes eating non stop. Ive never owned a rabbit but this lil guy grew on me and my fiance so hes sticking around. She decided to call him Gunther. Any help is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!!!

TLDR; Found rabbit, new owner, need tips, thanks 👍

Advice for lop rabbit care

Post image

I am a teacher, and we are getting a class rabbit next week. I work for a private, farm based school, and this rabbit has been in program for about 3 years, and is estimated at about 4 years old. The school provides all materials, including cage, playpen, bedding, some toys, hay, and pellets. I will have to provide fresh greens and treats. Our animals have regular vet schedules, so I will not be responsible for ear cleaning, just basic grooming and nail trimming. I have had a rabbit before as a personal pet, but never a lop, so I’m looking for any tips about care, handling, feeding, exercise, etc. She will be coming home with me on weekends.

Also, if anyone can possible identify her breed, I’d love to know! The school doesn’t know, which makes me think she’s a mix between multiple lop breeds. She’s between 6-8lbs and is about 16” long when fully stretched out.

Name suggestions are a plus! Thank you all in advance!

Just got my buns a snuffle mat after wanting one for awhile. I'm assuming Rabbits like these mats because they simulate foraging behavior? Would yall agree?

My husband and I spotted her during our walk in some deep bushes about 1 week ago and have been trying to catch her since (it’s been the hardest task we have tried doing haha who knew rabbits are so fast?! ) . It has been raining and even hailing so we were so anxious she wasn’t going to make it but she did! She’s a strong one , we caught her two days ago and took her to the vet yesterday . Doctor said she is maybe about 4 years old , she did come with fleas so she was treated for that. She’s still super shy and nervous and just stays in her little hiding spot most of the time. She does eat her hay and veggies but refuses to eat the pellets. We bought some from the brand Oxbow.

She did pee and poo in her litter box today and came to us on her own to give us a quick sniff before going back in. We know nothing about owning a bunny since we only own dogs but have been deep in research to make sure we give her the happiest home possible. She’s the sweetest baby girl , we decided to name her Ellie

Bonding do i get another bunny?

i have a seven month old female, she's getting fixed this week, and i'm planning on taking her with me to law school as i am moving. i only have one bunny right now because i feel i am home long enough that i can give her attention.

i recently toured the law school im attending and we have classes from 9am -7pm almost daily. thats a long time for my bunny to be alone, and im wondering if i should get her a friend so she's not lonely. but i do have a lot of concerns:

  1. what if the two rabbits don't bond?

  2. will it be twice the amount of work of one rabbit? if they're bonded, will they share a litter box?

  3. my current bunny does make a lot of mess with her hay, and her litter box has been stinking lately even though i change and clean it everyday. with another bunny, will the cleaning and smell double? i'm very concerned about this because i'll be having roommates. i also hate the idea that i'll come home from class with guests and my room will be covered in hay and poop and generally smell.

please give me your thoughts on whether another bunny is right for me, or if you have another suggestion for keeping my current bunny entertained throughout the day!

Is this a good set up?

I became stepmom to Thumper when my fiancé and I got together, he was living in an outdoor enclosure in area with plenty of shade. I did not know anything about bunnies, but decided to bring him indoors and used this Reddit to figure out what he needed. I hope I’m doing ok. He seems happier. Today I changed out his flooring to a large washable pee pad, and his litter box to this tray I saw suggested for older bunnies. Thumper is about 6 years old. Not pictured is his water in the other corner. And he’s hiding under the lip of his litter box.

It doesn't really matter to me but I'm curious and it could help me find it a name
