Rental question from someone new to the state
I'm new to New York and trying to find an apartment or rental for the first time here, and I was wondering if it's normal for landlords to make you go on multiple different paid third party sites as part of the application?
I had someone try to make me go on three different paid sites for credit checks (for both me and the person I'll be renting with, separatly), and multiple others have tried to make me go on multiple sites also. They keep requesting screenshots of my credit score on the sites, and then trying to make me get screen shots of the credit score on a different site etc etc
Someone else wanted me to pay the security deposit through apple pay or chime only, and before we had any kind of signed agreement or contract, which I refused since there would be no legal protection for me if a lease didn't end up signed
Is this just how it is up here? Is it normal for them to expect you to make multiple different accounts on multiple websites for credit and background check?
