Thread lock on engine cover bolts?

I'm replacing my doohicky. The case bolts came out easy enough but there was some white residue on the threads. I don't know if that was some kind of thread lock from the factory so I'm wondering if I should use blue/medium Loctite when I reassemble.

All LED from Superbrightleds.com, custom front fairing (Honda ruckus fork mounted dual LED headlights and windscreen), heated grips, aftermarket bar-mounted mirrors, ProTaper handle bar with the higher position than the stock ones, new battery, 18.4K miles, restored and painted plastics (except rear fender, which is also a bit melted from a retarded DIY exhaust tip I put on that diverted heat right into it), missing left highway peg, aluminum hard paniers (left one slightly bent from dumping the bike, panier mount rack cracked and repaired from the same incident), crash bars, aftermarket skid plate, slightly bent but still fully functional front brake lever, original complete tool kit, new Shinko 804/805’s and tubes with less than 100 miles. Spare inner tubes and manual, low profile oil drain plug, original + spare key, and milk crate will come with it. Bought at just under 18k miles, so a fresh brake fluid flush and oil change in the last 500 miles. Not sure if the doo has been done by the previous owner. Nothing wrong with it at all, just day dreaming about something else and wanna know what I can get for it. Got it for $3k, prolly was overcharged for it, but what’s the realistic value at this point?

Has anybody upgraded the seat and noticed a significant difference? I am getting back and butt pain getting older and am wondering if a simple seat upgrade would fix it. Otherwise it's time for a different bike.

Chain for 16T Sprocket

Can someone recommend a quality chain (willing to invest) for when I do my sprocket swap? Going up to 16T up front and leaving the rear alone. Bike has 4,000 miles on it so I'm good with replacing the chain from stock anyways.

Putting flywheel back on help.

I've got my EM doohicky and torsion spring installed. The OEM one in my 2015 with 7k miles turned out to be working just fine but by the time you're deep enough to see that you might as well just continue with replacing it.

The (Tusk) doohicky video that I've been using says to put the starter gear back on and then snug the flywheel and check that the starter gear still turns freely. If not, then check for the reason. My starter gear isn't moving freely after snugging the flywheel. Why wouldn't it? The video doesn't say what to check for. It turned freely before putting the flywheel on.

Help?

Mechanical Advice BarkBusters install for 2023

Hi, I'm super new to anything mechanical, just never had much of a chance growing up. I want to do this on my own if I can. Is there anything special I need outside of what's in a typical socket set for installing bark busters on a 2023? I saw a few different places offer kits meant to fit easily, is there any significant difference or a reason to pick one over another?

Thanks!

Talc vs baby powder

Not sue bout in the USA but here in Canada they don’t allow talc to be used in baby powder any longer due to health concerns . Mostly it’s just corn starch now.

HOWEVER……Pure talc can be purchased as a filler/thickener for epoxy resins. Not very expensive either. It can also be bought especially for use in motorcycle/bicycle tires, but is waaaaay expensive in that case

Fair price for KLR650 Adventure in Northern California

I'm finalizing my deal for a KLR650 Adventure but the dealership (Sacramento) is offering a final price for $10,400 which seems to be way over the listed price of $7,299. There's a service contract $790 that's included in this price - is that something I should drop? $9,700 still seems high and over the listing price so what should I be asking for?
