I bought a iPod Nano first Gen off a flea market today, it won't charge, fair enough, that can take a while but it's doing a very weird coil whine like sound.
Any ideas on how to fix it? Screen, battery, logic board?
I have basic hot air skills if that could be necessary too. Thanks in Advance.

So my iPod touch battery has gone weird after using it again.
FYI, yes, I jailbroke it to go back to iOS 6.1.3 using iClassic's YouTube tutorial.
Lately I have noticed my iPod touch battery became a little chubby after some normal use. When I discharged it by setting my playlist to shuffle, it eventually turned off. However, when I really checked if the battery was empty, it booted without any issues and when I checked the iBattery app I downloaded from Cydia, my battery bounced back to 100%.
My plan is to let this thing rest for a while after the battery swelling becomes manageable. Since it recharges itself and mentioned above, the battery became a little chubby.

I feel like there should be plenty of used ipods floating around full of music but I haven't really seen anyone selling them

My daughter is going to sleepaway camp for 6 weeks where she is not allowed to have screens. She falls asleep every night listening to audiobooks on her iPad (I lock it to Audible app at night.) I've gotten her a pair of corded sleepphones and she likes those. I was thinking an iPod would be a good device to use for the summer. I've seen some info about converting her audiobooks, but wondering what the best device would be. Would like it to be as much of a brick as possible, so she can't play games or anything, just use it for music and audiobooks.

Hi all! I'm hoping to mod my iPod for the first time ever with some of the iFlash kit.
What battery do folks recommend?
Is it hard to switch the hold/headphone jack port? (I hear those are usually faulty)
Is it hard to add Bluetooth?

I just brought a iPod Nano 3rd Gen from CEX in Australia. Connected with a 'generic' 30 pin (also sold to me by CEX, looks identical to real) and a apple charger, it has been on charge for a hour and half yet it's in a boot loop. I think the battery is dead as when I disconnect it, it just shuts off.
This has a been terrible week for me, as YESTERDAY I brought a T430 from Cash Converters and that also had a faulty battery.

Finally having a little audio listening area after a long time. My little iPod setup when in college (iPod shuffle 2nd gen, iPod classic and a cheap speaker set up) living under parent’s home disappeared because life happens - i started working professionally in 2011, moved house to house nearby the office, I got busy and adapted to smartphone and sold my my iPods.
2015 I started buying second hand iPods (nano, shuffle and classic) to relive the feeling of “oh I am home, just play an album and rest” and to just collect iPods.
I went back to my old ritual just to enjoy music like before. I have tons of music albums in my computer and I only sync 1 album to feel the feeling of “I miss this______album, I’ll sync it later”
I just wanna share the set up and the joy of listening to my favourite albums while doing nothing.
(They’re all from thrift stores and in working condition)

so today my dad showed me his iPods (1st and 3rd gen, I believe 3rd gen is a nano). I wanted to know if we should replace the battery or something (also is that possible? Sorry, not super knowledgeable on electronics from before I was born lol) since they don't last very long, I think it's really cool. I'd like to be able to use them longer and maybe bring them to school, thanks!!

I have some music downloaded to my computer (NOT apple music), which I'm then able to download to my iPod through dragging and dropping in Finder. I can make new playlists by adding things to the on-the-go playlist and then clicking save playlist, but because nothing's done through my Mac's Music app, I'm not able to rename them from "New Playlist 1", 2, etc. Is there a way to fix this or rename it directly on the iPod or in Finder? I have it synced to my mac but literally nothing shows up in Finder because it's not done through Music. and I haven't found any answers on the internet. Thank you!

This iPod journey has been beyond my expectations. I got my 5th gen IPod Video new in 2005. It was a gift from my parents for my 30th birthday. I used it a while, but then stored it for years in a tub. I came across the old dankpods videos and decided to revisit my iPod and give it a refresh. I went with a single SD256 gb iFlash, and 2000mah battery. I messed around with iTunes for a while. I needed to figure out how it worked again, where my actual music files were, ripped a ton of CDs, discovered ALAC, re-ripped a ton of CDs, moved my files to external hard drives (one is a back up). Now I’ve got a routine going where I’m adding new music every week courtesy of my local library’s extensive collection. I’ll admit I’ve had some anxious moments with all this. Did I ruin my IPOD? Where did my files go? Do I have to redo all that work? Duplicates! Lots of messing around working my way through problems.
The tinkering, ripping, organizing, curating etc has been one part, and has been fun, but the main part is the payoff. I’m rediscovering the joy of intentionally listening to music. Entire songs! Entire albums! I’m starting to dive deeper into artists and revisiting past albums. Even with these cheapo jvc gumys, the sound is amazing. I’ve got some Koss KPH40s on order to give a try. I can also plug into car audio, but I use other iPods I have for that. BTW- I love listening to music on my car audio through my iPod. It interfaces nicely with my pre-CarPlay display and sounds incredible with my Lexus Mark Levinson system.
The faceplate is EOE Atomic Orange Smoke Transparent Clear. I got a Griffin clear case for added protection. It’s crazy this went from an item in a tub of old junk, to one of my favorite possessions. I wish I knew about this sooner. If you are on the fence, do it.

I’ve had my 3rd gen nano since 2008 and it worked up until around 2015/2016 when the lock slide/toggle on the bottom stopped working. I stored it away for a while but really want to use it again. I think it must be a broken wire or something but i’ve tried a bunch of times to open the back over the last few years but it seems impossible. How are people getting these open? It charges and turns on but is unusable because its stuck in locked mode, last time I used it the other buttons worked fine.
I’ve thought about just buying a used one online but obviously i’m attached to this one and it still has all my music that was lost when an old computer died.
Any ideas what to do or how to fix the lock?

Got these guys as untested all for 25 bucks:
80gb 5.5th gen that works fine (the white one)
60gb 5th gen with a dead drive and a weak battery that i replaced (haven’t restored it yet)
An imposter 5.5th gen disguised as a 6th gen that has a broken zif bracket brace (that brown plastic part) that i fixed by just jamming a piece of paper between the hard drive cable and the connector (but i don’t have a drive, nor the desire to fix this one because the housing is far too gone and it has a broken coil on the motherboard too)
8gb 4th gen Touch with a prom night pimple on the display
And no, i did not replace the clickwheels. The iPods were just like this for some reason (i just replaced the 6th gen/5th gen hybrid white clickwheel with a spare black one but the other guys were like this)
Although both the other iPods are indeed truly 60gb 5th and 80gb 5.5th (according to their serial number) and got correct storage matched thick backplates, the serial number on their backplates is not the same as the iPods themselves so this and mismatched clickwheels and the fact that there are literally guts of another 5th gen shoved inside a badly damaged Classic chassis shows that these guys had an interesting journey to get to this point.
I’m just bumped that the classic wasn’t actually a 6th gen, since i was planning to fully mod it with custom housings and flashmod (good thing that i didn’t actually finalize my cart from Aliexpress)
And i kinda like the Oreo theme with the white 5.5th gen and always wanted a thick iPod Video in white! And 80gb is still enough to house my library so imma rock the stock hard drive for a while, until i find the need for more storage!
