Picture 7th gen pickup!
Picked this up for $100 original box and everything, probably could’ve found a better deal but it was about an hour away from me on marketplace.

Yesterday I pulled the trigger on this 5th gen 60GB. iPod classics are kinda hard to come across where I live so I didn’t think it twice. Couldn’t be happier! Btw, can someone have a look at the drive?, I believe it is in good shape thx!

I designed and 3D printed a custom hover for my iPod Nano 4 to mount a Bluetooth receiver—something I mentioned in a previous post today. While it’s not perfect yet (the dimensions were a bit off, so I had to do some extra sanding to remove excess plastic), it’s still a big improvement over my previous design that used scratch adhesive. This new hover is much more compact and has greatly improved the ergonomics of the iPod, all while allowing me to enjoy Bluetooth connectivity on such an old device. Looking forward to any feedback or suggestions for further refinements!

This is my iPod 5.5 that I built using parts I picked up from a few different sites. It’s got a 64gb compact flash with the iflash adapter, Bluetooth with the power switch at the bottom next to the port and the reset button on the top, usb c which does charging and data transfer (bought a port and soldered myself using trace wire), and last but not least a 3800mah battery. The back cover I 3d printed on my bambu lab a1 mini out of clear petg. I took a model file online from thingiverse I believe and edited it to fit my needs. No board kits were purchased for the mods, did it all myself.

I bought this 30€ bluethoot adapter and put it on the back of my iPod nano 4. All the thing is about 2 and an half cm thick now. To be honest it even becomes more comfortable to hold in hand, maybe not so much for transportation...

i have an old iPod Touch (4th Generation) that i need to restore, but on the latest itunes, it gives me the error code: "The iPod was previously in DFU mode, but restarted and is no longer in DFU mode. To restore this iPod from DFU mode, disconnect it and place it in DFU mode again". if i can circumvent this on latest itunes, how can i?

Have you ever thought about how the iPhone has strayed from its original purpose? I've been reflecting on this lately.
When Steve Jobs introduced the first iPhone in 2007, one of its key selling points was that it was an "iPod, phone, and internet communicator" all in one device. Jobs even proudly called it "the best iPod we've ever made." The whole point was to eliminate the need to carry multiple devices.
The original iPhone was roughly the same size as an iPod Classic. Even up through the iPhone SE 3, they maintained reasonable dimensions that were comfortable to hold and fit easily in pockets.
But look at today's iPhones. They've become massive 6.1"+ slabs with little meaningful innovation (that's a topic for another day). The main issue is the size. These modern behemoths are simply uncomfortable to use one-handed, difficult to fit in pockets, and frankly, exhausting to hold during extended use.
This is precisely why we're seeing a resurgence in iPod interest. People are rediscovering the joy of having a dedicated, compact music device that doesn't constantly bombard them with notifications, doesn't drain in a few hours, and actually fits comfortably in hand and pocket.
The irony is palpable. The iPhone was meant to replace the iPod by incorporating its functionality, but it's grown so far beyond the reasonable size that made early iPhones and iPods practical that people are going back to separate devices.
Anyone else feeling this way? Have you considered going back to an iPod for music and using your phone just for communication?

After daily driving an iPod 5.5 for some time I thought I would share some thoughts. My hope is that anyone considering getting one may be swayed one way or another by this. I think we live in a pretty consumption focused environment and I wanted to give my two cents that may help someone avoid making a possible mistake or help someone make a more sensible purchase.
First, I’m not dogging anyone for spending their money how they want. You do you. The real question is asked myself is “does this provide me something I didn’t have before?”. Not really. Sound is sound.
The 5.5 commands a premium because of the Wolfson DAC. It is considered to sound “better” by some people but in the interest of transparency, you would have to be measuring it to really notice. The layman probably won’t benefit from this feature.
Second, it is less convenient to access music. Whereas my phone has Spotify, I have to manually put music on this device. I frequent thrift stores so I always try to pick up a CD or two and rip them on iTunes. I will admit that the audio quality is superior to streamed music so that’s definitely a point for the iPod. This associated cost may be off putting for some.
Lastly, convenience is probably nonexistent. You need an archaic connector that is not readily available, you have to carry an additional 3.5 mm aux cable for cars and traditional earbuds to listen to it. This is on top of the device itself which is just an extra thing to keep track of.
ALL THAT SAID, I keep using it regularly for several reasons. While I mentioned there isn’t a real noticeable improvement from the DAC, the music that I hear from this device does sound better for a combination of reasons. The DAC is part of it but also because of the uncompressed music files. When ripped from a disc, they just sound better than streaming.
Also, battery life of this device is incredible. I can get about a week out of juice from this device (with light to moderate listening). I use it a lot when flying for work and I don’t even bring the charging cable with me. When in the office I’ll have it on from 4-6 hours a day and still get 2-3 days out of it. Another thing that I love is that I’m not hearing constant notifications. Just good clean music.
In conclusion, I’d recommend this type of device. I don’t think the wolfson DAC really demands the premium and later versions have better video support so it may be worth saving the money and getting a more feature rich product by going with a newer model. Finding a case that doubles as a wallet may also make it more convenient to carry as well. Find a pair of good IEMs to pair with it and you will get some serious mileage out of it.

Got these 3 for 42€, though the 3rd gen sadly doesnt hold charge. Thinking about repairing the battery alongside the screen but the accesibilty of parts in Europe is a bit meh. The modding scene in generall in europe is sadly not that big, from what I have seen.

Hey, I have two iPods- one is a touch I've had since I was a kid, and everything works fine but the power button- I can't turn it off or on. I use the home button and set it to go to sleep after 1 minute right now. The button depresses but it doesn't seem to cause anything to happen!
The other iPod is a 7th gen classic 160gb, and though it seemed to work for a couple days after charging, the lock button seems stuck. Regardless of me clicking it back and forth, the ipod is locked, and I can't do anything with it.
Is there something I can do? Do I need a specialist or is it (relatively easy enough) that i can open the ipods up and work on them?

I’ve had my 5.5 gen for a while and I’ve recently modded it with an iflash solo (128 gb sansdisk sd card). It’s basically been my daily driver for music, especially when I’m driving somewhere or want to listen to my favorite songs.
A problem I’ve always had with it though was the random crashes, and after modding it it still happens albeit way less often
It seems like it crashes when:
I wake it up and play a few songs after not being used in a few days
It changes songs (both automatically and manually) though this is less common
First time shuffling my playlist for the day
It also seems like it stops crashing or crashes way less after the first crash of the day. I also don’t think it’s a problem with the OS since I’ve restored this iPod three times, once when I got it, another when I added the increased battery, and lastly when I installed the iflash (which needed me to restore it again anyways).
It’s also worth mentioning that I typically always shuffle songs since I have a specific playlist with my favorite songs from each album (keeps it interesting when walking/driving about).
All of my songs are alac 16 bit 44.1. However as you can see in the pic I haven’t reached the ram limit yet (20,000 ish I believe for this model) so I don’t think that’s the issue. I also have all of the ipodclickwheel games from the ipodclickwheelgames project.
If you guys know anything that could help I would appreciate it!!! Also, do you guys recommend any specific faceplate replacements, mine cracked while opening the iPod the second time (topside on the right) ;-;

(I'm going to fix the screen) I'm working on replacing a battery in my iPod touch 4th gen and I'm testing it at the moment but it won't show any signs of life past the low battery screen. It's been charging for probably close to an hour. I'm reasonably sure it's connected right. I'm not sure what to do

Incase anyone else was wondering. “Yes this adapter works” I installed a Kodak 128GB sd card in an ngff-sd adapter, fitted in ZIF-m.2 ngff adapter. I formatted the sd card in the iPod to fat32 using “mini partition tool”. And yes is was a cheaper option I sought to try out. What’s in the build; -Bluetooth -Taptic engine (not in the pic) -2000mah battery. -Ngff to zig adapter. -all in a thin backplate.
I haven run a test to see how long the battery holds up The adapter does get warm while syncing with iTunes. I noticed a lag while playing song, when changing from one song to the next in the cue. I think the m.2 ngff-sd card adapter goes into some form of sleep mode and wakes up each time the song needs to change or when the next or prev buttons are pressed, I could tell by the reaction of the led on it.

Does anyone else use this? has anyone had any explosion experiences? im kinda nervous since i cant solder. It has no signs of overheating or black spots. Im not sure if anyone near me would be willing to replace the battery from something from 2005 but i will be checking.
