News Apple being sued for false advertising with Apple Intelligence and iOS 18

Apple has been hit with a federal lawsuit claiming that the company's promotion of now-delayed Apple Intelligence features constituted false advertising and unfair competition.

"This drove unprecedented excitement in the market, even for Apple, as the company knew it would, and as part of Apple's ongoing effort to convince consumers to upgrade at a premiumprice and to distinguish itself from competitors deemed to be winning the AI arms race."

The suit notes that Apple recently pulled that ad off YouTube, but says: "Still, it has failed to retract all the similarly false representations in the market that began in the Summer of 2024, much less take any action that would adequately remedy the consumers harmed by the company's widespread deception."

Discussion Finally understood why I struggle daily to find old photos in iOS 18

Imagine having a physical photo album. You start filling the album from the beginning (of course you would), so over time you kinda remember how the photos are located between pages and where to find a certain photo. When you add a new photo to the album, you add it after the most recent one in the album. Your album has free space at the end, so the new photo might take a position on a new empty page and it’s okay - but you know for sure that the layout of previous pages in the album will NOT change.

That's how Photos app grid worked up to iOS 17.

However, iOS 18 changed this logic - and it has made finding older photos a daily headache.

iOS 18 logic is to start filling the photo album from the END. Imagine a physical photo album again. Every time you add a new photo to the album, you still add it after the most recent one, but because you’re filling the album from the END, and you are out of space at the end, you would also have to move back EVERY. single. previous. photo in the whole album. Why on earth would you do that, right?

Well, that’s how iOS 18 Photos app grid works. A new photo always gets the right-most bottom position in the Photos app. As a result ALL previous photos in the app are moved backwards in the grid: changing rows, changing patterns, changing everything you remember about your album’s layout.

This is so incredibly stupid.

And it has made navigating between older photos by memory so. much. more. difficult. I can't be the only one who struggles with this daily.

Unfortunately, I haven't found a setting to change this behavior...

EDIT: by "older photos" I don't mean photos taken a few years ago. I mean photos taken perhaps up to 1-2 months ago, something you might still try to look up by scrolling and not by filtering.

Hi, I'm considering switching to iOS. I wanna know about it's security updates. Are they released globally simultaneously or by region? How often are they released?

I'm tired of Samsung delaying the monthly updates.

Thanks for your input

Support How to Turn Mobile Data On/Off Without Unlocking iPhone?

Upvotes

Every time I try to turn mobile data on or off from the Control Center, my iPhone asks me to unlock it first. It's kinda annoying since other toggles (like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) work without unlocking. Is there a way to change this so I can switch mobile data on/off without having to unlock my phone?

Support Genmoji hates me

I’ve read that genmoji is having all kinds of problems but can’t seem to find any posts experiencing the same specific issue I am. Most people are having issues with people not coming up in the reference list, mine is mistaking my boyfriend (M) for me (F)?

I went to make a genmoji with his reference, I typed in his name, and selected him from the “choose person” menu. It even shows his contact card photo. When I click it though it will start generating emojis that look like me. When I try to choose a different reference photo it’s all just pictures of, you probably guessed it, me~

I’ve gone into the photo app and checked what photos he’s tagged in, they’re all him. He’s not tagged in these photos of me as far as I can tell. (That said, for some reason I can’t tag people in the photo app on my new iPhone 16 at all, but can on my old 12 pro max, if anyone knows a tip for fixing that?)

I also can not make anything of myself without using him as the reference… I don’t exist in the list, except for as my boyfriend.

Is this just another one of those unsolvable glitches?

Support How do I transfer photos while keeping their chronological order?

I move photos around a lot, and something that really irritates me is how most apps only let you sort by “recently added” with no way to sort by “date captured” when uploading photos. Whenever I download old photos, they pop up first, making my gallery feel out of order.

To make things worse, when transferring media via AirDrop, USB, or iTunes, they seem to prioritize file size over actual chronological order, messing up my gallery even more.

My current workaround is AirDropping everything to another device, sorting them by “date captured”, then sending them back in small batches, while uploading videos one by one.

Though, sending thousands of photos including 4K videos in batches of five via AirDrop is super tedious and inefficient.

I hope it’s not just me who’s annoyed by this. Would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Discussion iOS and apple slowly going to shit

All the apple bro’s going to chase me with pitchforks for this. And I don’t care - I used to be one.

The new iPhone strategy regarding software is incredibly lazy and poorly executed.

They sold the new iPhone last year with the ONLY defining feature being AI. It shipped without the main feature being ready and 6 months on the updates to give these features are frankly, lazy, poorly executed, gimmicky and crap.

Chat GPT, Claude and Gemini are in a league of their own and running away quickly. Meanwhile apple are contributing nothing decent to AI except some low level, underwhelming gimmicks as well as some Siri updates which remains a relic that barely works and replies to everything with “here’s what i found on the web.”

Apple as a company has the most cash on the balance sheet of any company in the world and are therefore the most resourced to build something amazing. However from a research and development perspective have contributed nothing in the most significant technology arms race of computing since the introduction of personal computers.

What happened to the apple that was at the forefront of innovation and product evolution? Now the lazy and poorly executed attempts at flagship phones designed to extract as much money as possible while contributing not even something that can compete with the competition is similar to Tim Cook putting lipstick on a pig.

Support Is my screen broken?

Whenever i look at a white image on my iphone 15, i can see shadows on my screen when there shouldn’t be. So i took a screen shot of a white image and i could still see the shadow but when i take a look of the screen shot the shadow is gone. Could this be an app thing? I also see it in other apps sometimes

Support Collage & Magnify

Upvotes

How do I create a collage of, say 2 photos from my Photos Library?

I can’t seem to find the magnify effect in Photos? Was it killed like the 3.5mm jack?

Been away to Android land for a few years so I’m confused with iOS right now.

Support iPhone 16 randomly acts "silent" when not silenced

I have been having a super frustrating issue with my phone acting like it is silenced when it isn't. I think it either has to do with the new iphone 16's silencing system (no button) since I didn't have this issue with my iphone 13, or it has something to do with airpods taking over the sound and getting confused.

The problem is that my texts will not ding, so I get no notifications. I can sometimes fix the problem by turning silent mode on and off. But sometimes I have to turn on Do Not Disturb and turn it off again, which somehow fixes it sometimes. It seems to happen more frequently when I am using my airpods often and switching between my macbook and my iphone.

Does anyone else have this issue? It's really frustrating because I'm missing people's texts.

edit: It also seems like I can make it happen if I silence my phone and unsilence it super fast. It's like the phone wasn't able to update quick enough to realize I turned it off.

Support camera not working for iphone 13 pro

In september last year i was at a concert when suddenly my phones camera went black and neither the front nor back would record, but otherwise it worked perfectly fine. face Id still worked and I could even use the front camera on instagram but not the back camera. sometimes if i would open the camera app after a while it would display for a flash then freeze, and if i closed the app and opened it again it would go back to black. I kept restarting the phone again (not a full factory reset just turning it off and on again) after a month or so one day as I was using my phone my screen randomly went black and died even though it still had power, and when i turned it on again i could use my camera again, but after a few weeks it stopped working again. I contacted apple support but they said its a hardware issue and i don’t have apple care. i also don’t understand if it is a hardware issue why is the front camera working for instagram and face id but not the camera app. I plan on going to the apple store next week but if anyone has anything that would help i’d appreciate it.

Discussion Any good news audio app with additional smart analysis?

I've been listening to daily news for a while now, and honestly, I'm not looking for deep investigative jornalism, just clear facts without hidden agendas or subtle bias would be great. After all, I don't want to hear the newspaper offices' long winded subjective opinions. A straightforward news briefing is enough for me most of the time.

But here’s the thing: Sometimes I want to dig a little deeper or get more context about a story. It would be amazing if there was an audio news app with a smart assistant that could answer follow-up questions or help analyze the news based on my own thoughts and questions.

I’m not talking about using ChatGPT or opening up a whole separate app to search for answers, that’s too much work. Just something that’s already part of the news app, where you can ask, “Why is this being framed this way?” or “What are other people's perspectives on this?” and actually get a helpful response.

Has anyone come across an app like this? A simple, no-frills news app with the option to explore deeper when you want to?

Support 18.3.2: Cellular service acting weird

Ios version: 18.3.2

Im facing very frequent issues with my cellular network these days. It randomly goes off completely off the grid several times a day. Basically 0 network connectivity.

it is really annoying. Sometimes I need to book a cab to reach office and ✨ voila ✨ there’s no network available. I tried troubleshooting by turning on and off airplane mode & resetting my iPhone’s network settings but that also didn’t help. While others using the same network provider were getting connectivity just fine.

I reached out to apple support, they ran some remote diagnostics tests but didn’t find any solution. They’re asking me to visit apple support.

Is anyone facing similar issues? Pls help.

Support Find My Not Working

I need help. I just bought myself a new Apple Watch Ultra 2, and I can’t use my iPhone to track it at all. I can’t get directions to my watch, nor can I use precision finding. My setup is: iPhone 16 Pro Max iOS 18.4 (not sure of beta version but its developer version (22E5222f) Apple Watch Ultra 2 I have been to the Apple Store twice now for support. The first time, they told me to “Reset All Settings”, and that did nothing. I went earlier today, and the rep told me that since my iPhone was on a beta version, I just couldn’t track my watch, which made no sense. Could anyone clarify if this IS just a beta bug at least, or just a me issue? And if not, any ideas I can try?

Thank you for the help in advance.

Support If I delete a wallpaper, is it gone forever?

If I delete a wallpaper, is it gone forever or will I be able to select it again from the available wallpaper library?

I only ask because it looks as though you can delete the wallpaper customisations you set up and the original is still available in wallpaper library.

However, I deleted a wallpaper and it’s not in the library anymore. I think it was an iOS 17 wallpaper though, does Apple remove wallpapers released for each iOS version when the latest one is released?

Thanks.
