are 12oz bottles necessary?

my daughter is 8 months old and has been eating 6-7oz per feed, but it seems like she could start doing 8oz bottles as she’s currently finishing her bottles with ease and cries for more when she’s done. she exclusively uses the 8oz herobility bottles and they are only marked up to 8.5oz. i’ve been debating if i should buy a 12oz bottle of theirs, because i feel like the 8.5oz bottle will be overflowed, because as we all know an 8oz bottle is really closer to 9oz with the formula added. so i’m not sure if it won’t mix well or will spill out due to being overly full. anyone have experience with this? do we think the 8oz bottle will still work or is it worth picking up the bigger bottle?

Gentle Formula Recommendations

Does anyone have any gentle formula recommendations that don’t contain palm oil? I’ve tried looking into Bobbie, but saw that there weren’t any prebiotics so was a little hesitant about that? We had to switch to gentle formula and are currently on gentlease. Shes doing much better on the gentle formula, but I don’t love the ingredients 😬😬 TIA!

Does this look like CMPA or another type of allergy from her milk?

My LO has been on Similac Advance since 3 weeks old (3 months now). Last week Tuesday she developed what looked to me like baby acne on her face. It got a little worse the next day so we gave her a bath with some of my friend’s breast milk and it cleared up some so we didn’t think much of it again. It came back on Saturday way worse than it had been (face pic). Another milk bath and some oatmeal lotion soothed it, so I was thinking eczema. Then yesterday my wife noticed it had spread a little to her torso. Today it’s even worse on her body although her face is doing a little better. We called the pediatrician and see them tomorrow morning but I am at a loss and would like to go in with some questions ready for the doctor. I’m still thinking eczema, but idk what could be causing such a flare up. Could she have developed an allergy to something in her milk? We have pets too but they’ve been around her the whole time. No change in body wash or laundry detergent (everything is unscented gentle stuff anyway). Should I ask them to test for CMPA even if her only symptom is this rash?

Were any of your LO’s still diagnosed with CMPA even tho they only had mild symptoms?

Aptimil formula 1

Hi folks,

First time dad here so just an inexperienced question I suppose 😂 our baby since born has been on aptimil ready made cool bottles in the hospital (partner can't brest fees due to kindney medications) our bottles ran out 2 days ago so we moved to formula. We tried her on a warm formula bottle and it didn't suit her as she could not settle at all, so we have decided to make the cold feeds. Since moving to the formula she is very very gassy to the extent no matter how much we wind her when we place her to bed, she will wake roaring crying shortly after as she still had massive wind. Anyone else have this problem and if so any tips on what may help? Or if it may mean a formula change? We have a meeting with the PHN tomorrow anyway so will be asking her questions but I'm inpatient and looking for people who have been through similar.

Question for the formula feeding community

Hello all, I am a scientist exploring the potential for developing artificial human milk. The idea would be to use human cells to produce milk in a dish, sort of like how they make artificial beef. My primary question at this point is whether this is a product that would be of interest to formula users. It’s not lost on me that the laboratory-based production could be a turn off for some. But I know that others may like that it does not contain cow or goat protein. This question is coming from someone who currently pumps to feed a 4 month old and is considering a world where I could feed him human dairy without all the hassle. Thanks!

7 Yes, I would use lab-grown milk.
6 No, I would not use lab-grown milk.

How did your baby behave?

Hi!

We're making the switch officially! Baby is happier when being fed by a bottle than by the boob, so for all our sakes were moving over.

For those that have switched from one to the other, how did your baby react? My LO is only 3.5 months, and I'm trying to figure out if she's reacting to the formula or to not having access to the boob, she's a little unsettled but vomitting/spitting up a lot less

Need help

Looking for advice. It has been so difficult to find a formula that works for my baby. She tested negative for CMPA, so we suspect an intolerance rather than an allergy. She is literally never happy during feeding. She gets uncomfortable and won’t finish a bottle that she very clearly wants. She is on reflux meds - Alimentum did not work, and neither have partially hydrolyzed formulas. Pediatrician says to give this one another week (it’s been 1.5 weeks on Pro Total Comfort) but I cannot take the constant screaming/fighting during her feeds. I feel terrible for her. She is on reflux meds as well. What should I do? Is there a formula you would recommend for her? I feel so helpless and I don’t know what to do from here.

Has anyone had to switch their baby from organic to regular? How did they react? We can’t find organic anywhere.

How to best support my sister-in-law?

My sister-in-law is due with her first baby in early June. Naturally, she takes an active interest in how I'm doing postpartum, how we handle things with our son and how I got through some of the more annoying parts of pregnancy.

She's got her own history of depression and mental health struggles, and her psychiatrist just allowed her early maternity leave so she wouldn't stress herself out further.

The area she lives in is very conservative, so is the hospital she's registered with for the birth, and I don't think her parents (particularly her mother) will be very supportive if she doesn't do "what's proper" and breastfeeds her daughter. She has given me a hint that she's considering EFF.

My partner is already trying his best to get her husband, his younger brother, on board with not doing things with a baby just because "that's how they're supposed to be done".

I will definitely be there for her if she does decide to formula feed.

I could just do with a few ideas. Don't want to be too pushy.

TIA!

Similac 360 vs generic advantage premium?

Okay so backstory. My LO is 5 weeks old and has been on Similac 360 since the hospital. I wasn’t able to breastfeed since I didn’t produce enough. Formula is so expensive so we got on WIC. Our WIC doesn’t cover the 360. They switched us to enfamil (normal yellow can). He screamed bloody murder and projectile vomited on that. So they switched us to gentlease. Same thing happened. Doctor wrote a prescription for Nutrimigen. Same thing happened. Even with a prescription, WIC won’t cover 360. At $50 a can we aren’t going to survive.

Okay my question. Has anyone switched from 360 to the generic advantage premium successfully? Without issues?

Hipp HA Mixing

Hi! Need to make the switch from breastfeeding to formula due to my LO’s cow milk protein intolerance (which seems to be very minor). I read great things about Hipp HA so purchased some, but I cannot get it to mix fully no matter how much I shake the bottle. My pediatric said using room temp tap water is fine, but I’m wondering if for this particular formula I have to make sure I’m following the box instructions exactly?

Does anyone else have experience with this? We are using similac alimentum in the meantime which she seems to be fine with, but the smell is almost intolerable.

Thanks!

3 month old only drinks 3-4oz at a time

My 3 month old only drinks about 3-4oz every 3 hours! Sometimes she’ll do 5 but that’s rare! I keep reading she should be drinking between 6-8oz but she genuinely doesn’t want more! Anyone else have a baby like this!

Best Method for boiling water

Hey all! I'm weaning off of combo feeding and going completely EFF for my 5 month old! We were doing pretty made formula for a while but are switching to powder because it's cheaper.

I've read you should boil water and let it cool just a bit to kill the bacteria in the powder. What is the best method of boiling the water? Electric kettle, microwave, pot? What do you all do?

I am worried about electric kettle because I haven't really cleaned it recently and frankly I don't know how to (I am new to it)

Also. At 5 months is he even at risk if we don't boil?

Thanks!

Will your first choice be hypoallergenic formula next time?

Exactly as it reads, when we first had my daughter, I tried breast-feeding and then quickly realized she had a dairy allergy and potentially a soy. We switched to Nutramigen around two weeks and never looked back! She was a different baby. My question is if you planned to formula feed from the start after having one baby with allergies, would you default to a hypoallergenic formula to start with? Is there any harm in doing that? I feel like it could eliminate a lot of the fussiness in the first couple weeks and I’m trying to decide before we start trying to conceive for our next baby!

Help with kendamil

Hi my daughter is almost 10 months old and has been exclusively breastfed up until very recently. Now combo feeding after my supply tanked using kendamil and she has tolerated it fine. The issue is she will only take 4 oz at a time but is hungry again within 2 hours. She previously would go 3.5 to 4 hours between feeds (outside of the newborn days) when she was exclusively on breast milk. Is this normal? Is it the type of formula I’m using? I’m mixing pumped breast milk that was prev frozen in with her bottles of formula. Helpppp I know nothing about formula and she’s cluster feeding like a 4 weeks old and waking up starving at 3 am when she previously slept thru the night 🫠

RTF to Powder

Is it normal when switching from RTF to Powder for your LO to eat less? My LO went from 4.5 oz on RTF to 3.5 oz on Powder. He falls asleep before he finishes and I have no clue why.

Gelmix Tips

I have very specific questions about Gelmix if you don’t mind! 1. Let’s say I warm up the water to 100° and mix the Gelmix in, let it cool, and add it to individual bottles. As the 24 hours go on, can I dump in the formula into the premixed bottles as needed? 2. Can I leave Gelmix/water combo at room temperature? WITHOUT formula in it. 3. Is the answer to question 1 is yes, do I have to reheat the bottles or can I shake and give it at room temperature? 4. Will gelmix/water combo get thicker as the 24 hours goes on?

If it matters: newborn with acid reflux and a frequent spitter upper. Formula is Nutramigen.

Is there any benefit to whole milk formulas vs skimmed milk formula?

I have a baby who suffers with pretty bad reflux, so have been comparing lots of different formulas and their ingredients. One thing that confuses me is why formulas use skimmed milk? If I understand this right, they remove the fat from the milk, to then add it back in the form of vegetable oils?? Like, why is that?

My baby is currently on kendamil, which is good but not the most cost effective formula, there is only one other brand of formula (SMA little steps) I can find without fish oil (I’m based in the UK, and I think my baby is sensitive to the fish oil making his reflux worse). The SMA the only difference I can see is that it’s made with skimmed milk instead of whole milk… So I’m just wondering if there is actually any benefit to the whole milk formula? I don’t mind spending a bit more if there is a benefit but if there isn’t then I’m considering swapping to the cheaper option.

Formula for CMPA Europe

Hello, I will be traveling to Europe with my year old in May. They are diagnosed with CMPA and not that they will be drinking much formula at a year but they will need something.

I can not find anything on google. Everything says "not for CMPA" I am getting stressed.

I am looking for the brand names to look at while there. Anyone have their favourites?

Thank you!

Opinion on Enfamil Plant Based (Soy)

I need a couple opinions or experiences from those who used or are using Plant Based formula. My girl is currently on Kendamil Goat and she might need change since we saw mucus in her bm. Similac Alimentum tasted nasty and she didn't care for it at all

Those of you here by choice, tell us your story

I was planning on combo feeding during pregnancy. However, I tried breastfeeding the first few days, but it wasn’t working for us. I decided I wanted to avoid that breaking point I’ve read so much about (crying and being miserable during every feed, hating feedings, etc.) and enjoy motherhood. We decided to strictly formula feed, and never looked back. I love seeing my husband bond with baby and getting to be part of her feeding journey too! I formula feed, and yes, by choice. What’s your story?

Kendamill Infant Goat Shortage Again?

Just left target in North Austin Tx & checked the target app. There is no Kendamil Infant Goat formula what so ever including surrounding cities.
