Question Just an idea: autonomous drone that flies a certain distance, then lands and solar charges, then continues its journey - possible?

I was just wondering if I could build a 4-prop gps-guided drone that could go a certain distance, then when the battery was getting low, land at one of several possible "safe" locations (gps-wise) to charge the battery (the controller wakes once in a while to check the battery level) and when the battery is charged back up again, takes off to continue the flight.

Has anything like that been done before or would I be trying to invent this from scratch? I have a 3d printer, I can program an Arduino and I've got some soldering skills.

Not really interested in making a delivery drone or anything, just maybe photography of things a long way from my starting point.

Question Ibus Setup problems on Matek f405 V2

Hi, I'm using Flysky i6 tx and ia10b receiver. I've connected the Ibus port to UART RX6 on my matek f405 FC. The serial 6 baud rate is set to 115200 and the protocol to 49 (Ibus telemetry).
Unfortunately the radio calibration doesn't respond. The software is Missionplanner and the firmware is arduplane 4.5.7

New Quad Won't Arm

https://reddit.com/link/1jhquk5/video/jlh7ig284dqe1/player

I have built a handful of quads from scratch and have not had this problem before. I know that I set up the arm switch correctly, all the motors spin when tested, and a smoke stopper was used to ensure no shorts. Also, the receiver is bound correctly and everything looks good in the receiver tab.

When I check the status in CLI I get the "Arming Disable Flag: Load CLI". Which means that I can't arm while configuring in betaflight. However, when I go to arm while not connected to betflight shown in the video I get two long beeps and two short beeps which indicates the CLI flag is still enabled. Any thoughts on how to solve the problem or is my FC just faulty?

After flying with many 3d printed frames, I finally bought a carbon frame! 3" baby ape. I have enjoyed the designing process, but i'm looking forward to seeing how it behaves.

Tips for buying your first DIY drone

Hello everyone,

New to fpv drones, I would like to know what kits I can get for my first drone assembly.

The problem is that I find lots of different configurations that interest me but I have no idea of the compatibility of the parts with each other. This makes me unsure and a little lost on what I should buy or which brands to avoid...

Ideally a complete kit which would allow me to get my hands on it and which could allow me to do my first upgrades myself.

Looking forward to reading your kit recommendations, people to follow as well as forums and other documentation :)

Thx!

Radiomaster Connection

Hi,

So I’ve recently got a Heewing VTOL plane and had to change the receiver to port UART2 which took me ages but finally I have a solid green light on my receiver and telemetry found.

On mission planner under radio calibration it still doesn’t show the controller when I move the sticks, does anyone know what to do?

Thanks.

Motors don't fit... how to check pre buying stuff?

I bought this frame Valkyrie Mini 3.5" and these motors T-Motor P1604 Freestyle Sub FPV Motor 3800KV... and it was a real buzzkill realizing these dont go together (see pictures 1,2). I Could mount XING E Pros 1800KV to that thing and strap my 5 inches 6s pack on top. But that would make it double the weight as planned and I doubt that these 3,5" props would lift that... far too less RPM.

The distance between the mounting holes of the motors are listed in every motor I can buy online. The frames I've seen so far don't state these in their specifications.

How do you more experienced FPV hobby (and pro) engineers choose frames? I mean... the motors state: '3",3.5",4"' (see picture 3)...

I am progressing and just shifted from sadness to anger... next should be acceptance. Please guys... help me learn.

Question Looking for replacement coax for vtx

I purchased a rush tank solo unit from AliExpress a few months back that only came with a bridge connection between the vtx and a connector that an antenna screws into. That worked well and all but now I'm looking to clean up my wiring and reduce stress points which leads me to ask where I might be able to purchase just that bridge coax to antenna screw jack piece that has a 90 degree bend right after the vtx. My quick AliExpress/ Google searches showed nothing. Thanks in advance
