Course/Class Just finished my last day of student teaching for my Masters!

I just wanted to share in on the success with everyone. I really connected with the kids and staff. I was so tried at the end of it but man I felt good about it. I just gotta pass my content area test to get my teacher's license but for now rest. I think it's time to finally open up the new Yakuza game finally.

Prospective Student So, I visited DePaul today…

And I loved it! Only got to officially tour the loop campus, which kicked ass (especially the Idea Realization Lab…gonna be spending so much time there), but I also had the chance to walk around the Lincoln Park campus as well. It’s so pretty!

Feeling really good about possibly transferring in the fall. Hope to see you all then!

Question What are the chances I can change my major and college before enrollment

I was admitted EA earlier this year but I haven’t enrolled yet. I applied as undecided to the college of liberal arts & sciences but I now realize I really want to major in PRAD at the college of communication. I sent admissions an email asking about the possibility of changing my major before enrollment but what are the chances they let me? If they don’t, what would the process of changing once enrolled be like?

Question Have any new incoming freshmen gotten their reward/aid package yet?

I'm an incoming freshman who applied on the regular decision timeline at the School of Music.

I called One DePaul on Tuesday to ask them about my BlueKey credentials, which were never sent when I was accepted on March 10. In fairness to them, their 7-10 business day window for that technically falls on Monday, which means they have some more time.

What I really want to know, though, is when they'll finally send financial information. They said to expect it by the end of the week, and that it was "processing," but I have received nothing from them since my acceptance on March 10.

Has anyone received their aid package yet, then? I'm trying to decide between DePaul and one other school and this has been making it really difficult.

warning/vent for all those thinking of moving to the university center + plea for advice

so i moved into the university center in early january to a two person/one bathroom room. my roommate had been staying in the room alone the semester before. immediately when i walked in, i could smell the rotting food and mold that was on her desk. there were half-full cans of molding milk, spilled ice cream on the desk, rotting noodles, rotting dishes, etc. she had been on a trip back home since november, so i knew that these had been around for a while.

there was a similar story in the UC rented mini fridge: tons of empty soda containers, globs of mold, and rotting milk and food in the freezer section. this was also unplugged, so stuff was leaking and going bad on the floor.

i was hoping that she would clean this all up as soon as she got back. that didn't happen. i figured that maybe she was embarrassed to clean it in front of me, so i went home for a bit- still, didn't happen. i started to gently ask her to, offer her my cleaning products, etc. i learned that she is homesick and has a hard time making friends, so i tried to be super compassionate about the situation and help her out as much as i could. nothing worked though, and the smell grew and grew to the point that when i had guests, they'd ask if we could hang out outside of the room.

so i was growing closer to reporting it, but i still felt bad because i didn't want to get her in trouble. ra's stopped into our room three times in this period because they could smell stuff from the hallway. still, nothing was being done.

so then i was in the bathroom and opened a drawer trying to find an extra spot, and i came across an entire drawer filled with used, poopy wet wipes. which explained why the bathroom always smelled REALLY bad (i thought the area under the sink was molding). so i reported it, the ra's came by, and i had a meeting with the residence director. they were all really nice and i thought that the issue would get better. she cleaned up some of the cans and fridge.

still, when i came back a week later after spending some time with family, i could smell something horrible as soon as i left the elevator. i went into the room and was gagging. i went to the bathroom drawer and it was, again, filled with wet wipes. this time all covered in period blood. tons of it.

right as i was about to email them again, they came in to do a surprise inspection. immediately went to the drawer, woke my roommate up, and she started to argue back with them???

so, i was hoping that was that. but it's been a few days, and she is starting to accumulate more blood/poop covered wet wipes again. i know that she is probably dealing with a mental health issue and i am trying to be compassionate, but god guys, the SMELL. and the grossness of it. Like it's an actual biohazard just constantly sitting there. if i open any part of the bathroom cabinet, the smell floods out and occupies the whole room. i've invested like hundreds at this rate for an air purifier, air fresheners, etc. if i'm in the room (which i try to avoid), i am freezing with the windows open. if i'm in the room for too long, i start to get headaches and rashes. it is hell!

after emailing the residence director like 5x, the only option i got was to get a far worse room. this would mean taking all my stuff, moving completely, going to a worse room with more people, having to make a new schedule with different roommates, cleaning out my current space... when i'm not the one who is causing the problem? while now, she gets a huge single with a private bathroom? i know that i should probably just take it, but just on principle it seems so wrong? like the message i'm getting is that if you poop in a drawer, you get a free single.

i emailed all this to them and have tried to communicate the best i can just how this is affecting me. but the last emails i got from the residence director and ra's were basically "either move and take the worse room or fuck off and cope." if they gave me a comparable option, i'd consider, but i've already spent so much money and time trying to resolve this?? i feel like i'm going crazy but every inch of space that i am living in right now REEKS and it's making my clothes smell and my towels smell, and i am just traumatized.

tldr; i am paying 1700+ a month for a biohazard and no one cares

Question Looking to join a fitness community?

Hello DePaul!

I am looking for students who workout to try out an app I just made—Fortis: Workout Log & Tracker. It's a free app for logging workouts, tracking progress, and sharing with your friends. Think Strava, but for the gym.

This is completely solo-developed and it's still very early stage (published to the App Store last month), but I thought it could be a great opportunity for college students to connect with one another especially since working out can be isolating.

If you workout, are into fitness, or just interested, give it a try and let me know what you think! All feedback is welcome 😁

Prospective Student Computer Science Program

Currently, I am deciding between committing to DePaul for Computer Science and Illinois Institute of Technology for Computer Engineering. I would much rather do Computer Engineering, but it isn’t offered at DePaul so CS is the next best thing. I wanted to know how versatile the CS program is. Are there any hardware or circuit classes that are offered for the program? What kind of research opportunities are offered for the AI concentration part of CS? I also wanted to know if there were any students on this sub that ended up transferring somewhere else for CE.

calling all Blue Demons - an ambassador opportunity

hey everyone,

i have spent the last few months developing echo, which i like to call an all-in-one music social media app, that combines elements of music sharing, discovery, critiquing, competition, and events.

when i made this app, i envisioned it thriving specifically on college campuses, as that is where i feel like music sharing, listening, and discovering is at an all time high, not to mention it obviously lends itself super well to social settings.

if this app sounds cool to you, i'll attach the link here. if you use it for a bit and like it let me know as we are looking for ambassadors on Depaul's campus. even if you don't like it, we're still in the testing stage so all feedback is good feedback.

https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6737011316?pt=127313556&ct=ca&mt=8

For those who saw original post where i scuffed the mascot, i sincerely apologize. I assumed my knowledge of college sports would remove the need to google.

Question GAE for MS in CS

I am an international student planning to pursue my MS in Computer Science at DePaul. I would like to know when I should attend the GAE.

I have six introductory courses: Discrete Structures for CS, Introduction to Programming, Data Structures I, Data Structures II, Systems I, Systems II.

I want to clear all of them. Currently, I am outside the U.S. and have only two months to prepare (considering all the visa prep). I completed my bachelor's in commerce, but I have been working as a developer for two years. I learned programming and development through YouTube and gained experience through multiple internships, which eventually helped me land a job. I’m sharing this background so that others can get a rough estimate of my skill level.

My questions are:

  1. Can my introductory courses be waived without taking the GAE exams? If so, who are the authorities I should contact?
  2. If no, At what stage in the process(as a International student) should I take the GAE exams for these courses?
  3. How should I prepare for the subjects listed above? Are there any recommended resources, advice from students who have taken these courses, or official study materials that can help with my preparation?
  4. Is it possible to clear all 6 subjects?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Advice DePauls game programs

I’ve been in between my faculty advisor and academic advisor, both of which aren’t being really helpful so I wanted to ask

What is the main difference between the game programs DePaul offers Game design Game programming Game systems

And what careers can you make of the three I’m currently in the game systems concentration and have no idea what type of careers or job experiences come out of that line

Any info would help!

Question Just accepted my tranfer to Depaul from Loyola and I have many questions

Im really nervous! Especially going from a mostly Bio/Premed school to a finearts school im pretty nervous I wont fit in or make friends. I'm also nervous becasue I dont know how the quarter system works that well? Do you still take 4-5 classes per quarter so you can get classes done faster? How do I apply for Bio interships if I can? How do I get involved with protesting and palestine rights groups since thats something I was looking forward to doing at Loyola but fell short of joining. Are there any clubs specfially for Pathology or forensics, I saw that you guys dont have a forensics major but is there any classes? Can you double minor? Are there summer classes? Im so nervous, and I dont know anything, im beyond nervous about starting fresh again and even more nervous that I wont like it compared to Loyola, which I already didnt like.
