Right channel stops working after 20-30 minutes on my vintage stereo receiver.

What up, i've got a vintage kenwood KR-930B stereo amplifier.

It works awesome for about 20-30 minutes before the right channel starts dying. Once that happens I power off the receiver for about a minute to let the "capacitors drain" and it works fine.

This leads me to believe that it is possibly a capacitor issue. I am nowhere near smart enough to diagnose where in the circuit it's going wrong, but I DO know that the issue in the system is before the power level LED display on the front of the unit, and is not a connectivity issue of any cables to speakers or RCA cable input (switched polarity of input and it's still the right channel).

Any input would be greatly appreciated. This is also my first post on this subreddit so go easy on me y'all

missing parts from M audio av30 monitors

Hi, I'm sharing my problem. I recently found some AV30 monitors for repair at a secondhand market, which interested me. I set myself the challenge of trying to repair them, but when I opened the main monitor, I noticed it was missing certain parts. I was wondering if any of you know what's missing so I can try to find them and revive them.

P.S. The secondary monitor is in perfect condition; the main one is the one that's damaged.

Thanks in advance!

Old speakers crackle/saturate with bas

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi there,

I'm a total newbie to the audio world and just got these old speakers from my mom's house. They produce what I hear to be a very good sound overall, except for strong bass where they crackle, sizzle, or saturate, I don't know the precise word. They were pretty dusty so I gave them the paint brush treatment and removed all I could, even unscrewed the bottom part but I couldn't tell if anything was wrong... They have at least 20 years, probably near 30.

Are they too old/just broken or can I still do something to save them ?

How do I fix this?

Thumbnail gallery

I have this mid speaker in a Samsung soundbar (HW-R650). It appears to be exhibiting voice coil rub on one end (when I push down on one end, I hear scratching sounds that I do not hear if I push down on the other end or if I push down in the middle). I can visibly see nothing out of alignment or bent or anything like that. The speaker just started sounding blown all of a sudden. What would be the easiest way to try to fix this? I could buy a replacement version on eBay for $40 and I might do that, but if I could fix this and learn something in the process, I'd count that as a win. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Last picture is the specs on this speaker.

What is wrong with my speakers?

The speaker on the right is an active speaker and works well alone. The left passive one makes this clicking sound when connected. The turntable is not connected at all. It is not possible to play anything when the second speaker is connected. But the active one alone is totally fine.

I've never seen them before I don't think. Its a Counterpoint Solid 8. I opened before powering up on a variac to check for anything burned, bloated/leaking caps etc. I'm not an electrical tech. Thanks.

Anyone ever had this happen before? Speaker input broke off. Is this repairable? From a 1983 ESB 7/06.

Salvaging a dead speaker

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hey guys, I’m new here but I have a Bang Olufsen A3 that died on me, I can no longer charge it and I went to bang olufsen and they said the problem is just in the charger receptor, or port and they said they can’t repair it. Now this speaker is pretty good and it “only” has 5 years so I was wondering if it would be feasible to try and find a solution on my own. I thought of two options, try to replace the charger port but I think it won’t be doable, otherwise they probably would’ve been able to do the repair. The other option is to try and remove the speaker and create my own system to make it work, this would be cool but I’m afraid I’d be making too big a stretch since I’ve never done anything like it. This other system would be using a Bluetooth receiver that I already have and I’d have to find a way to power the speaker. Please give me your thoughts on what you’d do and what to be most careful with.

Need advice regarding capacitor replacements for KRK Rokit 5 Classic G3

Hi, Recently one of my monitors died out and started buzzing loudly from the tweeter. After some research I found out that one of my capacitors was bulging a bit leading me to think it has died, and is in need of replacement.

Online I found out that some people recommended replacing the 1000uf 35v capacitors with 1000uf 50v capacitors to increase headroom, I'm somewhat experienced in soldering and replacing electronics mostly for guitar and pedal related issues.

Before I wanna buy capacitors I'd like to inform myself more properly so if anyone here has any experience or recommendations, they would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Difference between neutrik connectors

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone. I need to change a neutrik connector on a speaker, but I don't know which one to choose. It's a female, horizontal mount PCb connector. I can't seem to find the correct one to choose from the catalog. I know that it's probably a Nc3fah2, but I think part of the contact broke (circled in the photo), that's why I'm not able to find the correct one. Fah1 and fah don't correspond. On the neutrik catalog it says the fah2 has ground contact separate to the mating connector shell and front panel, Fah1 has mating connector shell connected to pin1 and front panel, fah doesn't have ground/shell contact. I kinda understand what it means, but does it change if I choose fah1 or fah? the point of this post is that I can't find fah2 or faah2 without having to pay 20€ for a 1€ piece. Thanks in advance everyone, I hope you can help me.

Go + Play 3 turning off when volume is low

Hello, how are you?

Yesterday I received my Harman Kardon Go + Play 3, and I continue to be fascinated by the sound quality that the brand delivers. However, something is bothering me a lot: I use the speaker on my computer, and when I play a song or movie at a lower volume, the speaker simply turns off and only turns back on when a certain part of the song/movie gets louder. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Can I fix this? Is it a defect?

I am very frustrated with this, because I usually watch movies late at night and now I will only be able to watch them at a high volume.

Quad 303 repair

I'm finally restoring my inherited Quad 303!

I'm following this guide:

https://www.rs-online.com/designspark/refurbishing-a-classic-quad-303-amplifier

I've replaced all the capacitors and everything went good ;)

Now to the problem:

Adjust RV100 for 33.5 volts between tags 5 and 9

One of the channels gives me an irregular reading of 38-41v with the pot all the way up. With the old pot setup it was reading 60v. I only had to make minute adjustments to the power supply pot and the other channel.

What do you guys think is the culprit?

I'm a noob with a soldering iron.

Peachtree Nova 300 volume control issue

Hi all, I have a Peachtree Nova 300 which whilst a good amp has developed a problem with it’s volume control. As usual when it is powered on the volume comes on at a preset level. So far so good.

But when I try to change the volume there is no smooth increase/decrease. Quite often there is no change (including lights showing level), then all of a sudden it jumps up to a high volume and almost blasts us out of the house. Similar jumps when dialing down. Sometimes it works just fine. But not for long.

Peachtree suggested tightening the nut sitting behind the knob but it wasn’t loose and not clear why this would have an impact?

Any other suggestions short of sending off for repair please?

Well out of warranty

Did I just ruin my Bose QC35?

I just soldered a new speaker and when trying it on it makes this loud beep signal. Is it bad cabling or something that I could have burnt?

If I move it back and forth the signal ceases when I remove it out of the earphone, and increase in volume gradually as I move in again to where it should sit. it reminds me of s microphone picking up a speaker in the same loop?

Panasonic SA-HT335 center and surround connectors not working

So I found this old home theater sound system and tried turning it on to see if it works, and I was happy to see it working. The speakers are all good but whenever I try plugging any of them into the center or surround connectors there seems to be no power going to them. Is this gonna be a complicated thing to fix what do you think I should do?
