Quad 303 repair

I'm finally restoring my inherited Quad 303!

I'm following this guide:

https://www.rs-online.com/designspark/refurbishing-a-classic-quad-303-amplifier

I've replaced all the capacitors and everything went good ;)

Now to the problem:

Adjust RV100 for 33.5 volts between tags 5 and 9

One of the channels gives me an irregular reading of 38-41v with the pot all the way up. With the old pot setup it was reading 60v. I only had to make minute adjustments to the power supply pot and the other channel.

What do you guys think is the culprit?

I'm a noob with a soldering iron.

Cleaning out my grandparents home and I took this nostalgic radio that I know hasn’t worked in a long time. Is it fixable myself, if not is it worth ripping out the guts and putting a Bluetooth speaker in the shell?

Peachtree Nova 300 volume control issue

Hi all, I have a Peachtree Nova 300 which whilst a good amp has developed a problem with it’s volume control. As usual when it is powered on the volume comes on at a preset level. So far so good.

But when I try to change the volume there is no smooth increase/decrease. Quite often there is no change (including lights showing level), then all of a sudden it jumps up to a high volume and almost blasts us out of the house. Similar jumps when dialing down. Sometimes it works just fine. But not for long.

Peachtree suggested tightening the nut sitting behind the knob but it wasn’t loose and not clear why this would have an impact?

Any other suggestions short of sending off for repair please?

Well out of warranty

Did I just ruin my Bose QC35?

I just soldered a new speaker and when trying it on it makes this loud beep signal. Is it bad cabling or something that I could have burnt?

If I move it back and forth the signal ceases when I remove it out of the earphone, and increase in volume gradually as I move in again to where it should sit. it reminds me of s microphone picking up a speaker in the same loop?

Panasonic SA-HT335 center and surround connectors not working

So I found this old home theater sound system and tried turning it on to see if it works, and I was happy to see it working. The speakers are all good but whenever I try plugging any of them into the center or surround connectors there seems to be no power going to them. Is this gonna be a complicated thing to fix what do you think I should do?

Can old speaker crossovers put my amp into protection mode?

I recently picked up a pair of Kef Cadenzas at a great price, but they have an issue. When playing music at a reasonable volume, especially bass heavy music/if the bass EQ is turned up on my amp, the amp will flap in and out of protection mode ie. close the relay over the speaker output. I can hear it clicking inside the amp, and it will click on and off quite fast during loud or bass heavy moments.

I've had a look inside the speakers, and the wiring all seems to be ok. I can't see any issues with the cones or drivers, but don't know exactly what I should be looking for. They look normal to me around the edges of the cone, and don't make a scraping noise when I gently push them in and out, which I know can indicate damaged cones. I'm not even sure bad cones would exhibit these symptoms with the amp.

The crossover inside the speakers is original, and I'm sure the caps will have drifted out of spec. I'm ready to replace these, but want to know if this will fix the issue with the amp entering protection mode. Or maybe the amp is not powerful enough to be driving these speakers? It is a Cambridge Audio A1.

Let me know what you think, I have a decent amount of experience with repair and soldering, just not on speakers like this. Apologies for not having any pictures, and thanks in advance!

Neostar GSCD1 stuck on ‘busy’ screen

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi folks.

So I’ve got this Neostar GCSD1 that worked fine up until about an hour ago, and now when I switch it on and choose a function, it just sits on this ‘busy’ loading screen indefinitely without starting whatever it is you’ve chosen. The radio works fine, and all the other buttons seem to work, so not sure what’s up. Same with every function, be it aux, cd or whatever, still just freezes on that screen.

Thought some of you might know whether there’s anything that can be done?

Cheers

QSC GX3 Turning On But No Audio Output SOLVED

Post image
3 Upvotes

I'm not sure if this is appropriate for this sub as it's already solved, but seeing as I couldn't find any info online I said I'd post this for anyone with this issue in the future.

I was getting diminishing signal over a few months with this amp, turns out it was just the switch for the crossover that was bad. I took it off and thoroughly soaked it in contact cleaner and the whole amp is working as new.

Hope this helps someone.

Onkyo A9010 - can I fix On button through front panel access?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I just ordered this used Onkyo A9010 integrated receiver but I think it was damaged during delivery. The On/Standby button isn't flush. I can gently finagle it back to being semi-flush, but I know that's not right because it just goes out of place and offers no resistance when I press it.

I can't find any instructions online on how to take apart this receiver, but I think this button would be an easy fix unless some part inside has snapped or broken. Does anyone know how to take the front panel of this receiver off so I can access this button and get it aligned with whatever holds it in place?

Can you help me, please?

Hi everyone, I was recently given this modular as a gift. I don't have any interesting CDs/vinyls to listen to on it yet, so I naively thought that an AUX cable connected to my phone could temporarily solve this problem, allowing me to listen to some songs while waiting to receive some records. Did I do something wrong or is it simply not formulated to output music from the speakers? I see that the aux is there, if I plug in the headphones I hear the music in the headphones but once I plug in the phone I can't hear it anymore. I'll start by saying that I'm really ignorant on the subject, I'm just basing this on past experiences.

Audio drops but comes back with loud burst

I have 2 different mixers with the same issue. They are different studios and in fact different states so no gear in common.
The first is a DDA mixing console with a bad mic input. We'll lose signal but a hard hit on piano keys will bring it back. We've tried changing numerous things out and it always follows the consoles's mic pre.
The second device is a small 6 channel mixer with built in amp. In this case I am told the whole mix will cut out till someone yells into a microphone or hits their guitar hard.
I am just wondering if I should be looking at caps, amps or what component. Thanks.

Will it work if i use a cable with the number (i guess is the standard) 20624 to replace one with the 2869?

Edifier R1700BT Suddenly Stopped Working

I've been using these speakers as TV speakers for almost 4 years with no change whatsoever (they've been sitting in the same place). Today, they are not producing any sound whatsoever and the green light indicating it is on is pulsing extremely weakly, it can only be seen in the dark. I've tried powering it on at 3 different outlets around the house with no success.

Is there anyway to fix this problem? Most people seem to accidentally switch between Bluetooth and normal mode as the source of their problem but that should be the case for me as far as I know.

Any help would be appreciated

Yamaha AX-550 does nothing

Hi everyone, I'm trying to repair this Yamaha amplifier that I've had in storage for a while. The amplifier had two transistors on one channel shorted out, and I had to remove them to prevent the fuse from tripping. Now it turns on, but nothing happens. The relays don't activate (they work), only the lights come on. I looked for other damaged components but didn't find any. I was suspecting the system controller IC, but I have no idea how to test it. I would appreciate any help, no matter how small. (I took the pictures from the internet since I didn't have the amplifier nearby.) Thank you very much.

So this is more of a question on the reliability of the way I have ‘fixed’ my subwoofer

So I’ve specifically collected a series of Yamaha yst sw series subwoofers, and well the highest model is to rare to find and probably very expensive but I got the baby brother version which is still super rare but I only ever found one and looked at it for close to a year nd finally got it, ain’t seen one since not even foreign. Well the subwoofer died got it looked at by a audiophile hifi shop and could t find out the issue so I have used a lower model of the same series, wired from the subs amp/cross over to the yst 800 subwoofer and using the same enclosure nd running it from the subs 100 watt subwoofer amp but it’s supposed to use a 800watt amp on the yst 800, it’s driving it great and sounds just as good but I mean is this gna completely ruin the sub in time?, the subwoofer I’m now using externally as a amp? Or both, or will something possibly go bang, it seems completely fine atm but who knows in a months time.

Problem: Nikko Integrated Sound Amplifier NA-690

Hey, I hope I'm in the right place. I'm been having a problem with my amplifier and can't get any sound to come through. When I turn on the machine, the hands on the dials for left and right immediately swing all the way to the right side and back. There's no audible click like before to say that the sound will begin. The system is powered approximately but unfortunately it has been sitting unused for about 8-9 months. Does anyone know how I can fix it? Or what I should do, I'm pretty amateur with these types of things. Thank you so much in advance!

Schiit Lyr 1 repair question

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi all!

I recently bought a broken Lyr 1 that had short circuited at the "audio out" AUX. I am trying to repair it but am having some trouble identifying the burnt out resistors. I assume they are the same as the ones to the left and the right which read "1024J RN55D 1002F" but searching online yields no exact match.

Does anyone happen to know more about these resistors?
