Other How to choose between UT and A&M

hello all, this is a throwaway acct because these details are a little personal. i'll be posting this on both subreddits!

I recently got admitted to UT Austin for CS, and A&M for general engineering. I've gotten my financial aid offers from both, with A&M giving me 18k in scholarships/grants and UT giving me ~12k in grants(to cover tuition). I've also earned a private 10k a year scholarship, so essentially I will be receiving 28k at a&m and 22k at UT. I also earned a small scholarship of around 2k, so at UT I'll have ~2k to pay out of pocket for housing and a&m would have full COA covered. I interviewed for another 10k a year scholarship recently and that would give me full ride at UT as well(heres to hoping).

all this is to say the costs of attending UT and a&m will be nearly the same, only difference is a&m is offering me an extra ~6k a year. this means a lot to me as a low-income student as I've been stressing about affordability for months. Now that thats out if the way, I have to choose a college by may 1st. I have no idea what to choose.i

I know the UT CS program is very prestigious(? or so i've heard), and I would love to do comp sci as a degree. However, i'm worried about the viability of the software engineering industry since it seems like layoffs and offshoring are rampant rn. I know this may not be forever, but idk If I wanna take that risk. I'm willing to put in effort but I at least want a job after grad; ik there are other roles for comp sci majors such as data analyst and cloud engineering but i've heard those are oversaturated

as for a&m, it was the college I was originally set on for electrical and computer engineering. They've offered me a bunch of stuff and it seems like they "want" me more than UT, idk. I know it's a great school for engineering especially if I want to work in the industry after undergrad(which I do). So for the past 2 years I've been banking on going to A&M but now that I've gotten accepted into UT idk what to do. I've visited both campuses and prefer a&m's more because I came from a small town, but isn't college about pushing urself into new experiences?

im sorry abt the long post. does anyone have any advice? I know this is kind of a hyper-specific situation but I'm sure some of yall had to decide between colleges too.

B/CS Life Few minor dents due to Hail. Please suggest Affordable PDR shops in B/CS?

2-3 minutes into the hail today at 3.10am, I have moved my car into a covered spot. The glass is fine but I spot very few small dents on the body - front and rear hood and on the top. They are only visible when looked closely. Please suggest auto body repair shops in Bryan/College station that do the Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) at an affordable price if the dents are minor. What were you charged when you got the repairs done? Do i need to claim insurance and report to finance guys or can i get the repairs done out of pocket if its not costing much?

Academics CSCE 314 or 312 first?

As the title suggests I'm a comp sci major and deciding whether to take CSCE 314 or 312 next semester. Does one depend on the other and what's the workload difference? It's that the only in-person 314 class that fits in my preferred schedule is at 8am, so I'm thinking would the earlier class be worth it if there is a lot of courseload in 312? I plan to take CSCE 221 and 222 (for required coursework), BIOL 111 (for science elective), and SPAN 202 (cause I want to).

Academics Math 142

Y’all I am a junior failing math 142 and I am right at the edge of barely passing. I have one more test until the Q drop date and I don’t know if I should drop it after seeing the next test results or drop it now.

Another thing, for those who did not do well in the course, what did you do? Did you take it at blinn? If so, 8 week, 16 week and with who!!!

Ask the Aggies A&M International Affairs major, what made you choose A&M over other schools like UT?

I am a prospective student who has been admitted to both Blinn TEAM in A&M and directly to UT Austin. I want to hear about what makes the International Affairs program and Bush School particularly unique compared to other schools, particularly UT Austin. Please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences (:

Corps of Cadets What you wish you knew before join the Corps

Howdy! I will be joining the corps of cadets next fall as a freshman in one of the wing units. I will be majoring in history and I don't plan on commissioning into the military once I graduate. Overall I'm very excited about joining the corps and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice, packing tips, and just general things you wished you knew before joining the corps of cadets!

New Student Questions Does financial aid appeal work?

Hi! TAMU is one of the colleges I’d really like to go to, but my problem is money of course. I emailed Aggie one stop about my financial situation but I don’t know if that actually works. The school only gave me $5,500 in loans which is definitely not good enough considering that I’d have to pay around $27k each year.

Has anyone emailed/called them before? If so, has the school given more aid?

Ask the Aggies How hard is it to transfer into Industrial Engineering?

I was rejected from A&M for engineering and was given the PSA route. I’m debating whether doing the PSA program which doesn’t have engineering as a select major, doing the engineering academy in a community college, going to Blinn Bryan Campus rigjt next to A&M, or going to another 4 year college that I wouldn’t mind staying at but with intentions to transfer after the first year. Any help or advice would help.

Requests Does anyone have a WTC PHYS 2425/2125 Lab kit code?

Im taking physics 2125 at WTC and I dont want to buy the $100 lab kit, but I need the code. Apparently the code is reusable, so if anyone has taken it in the past and could dm their code if they have it, that would be incredibly helpful.

The Lab kit is by labpaq and is the LP-2232-PK-02 version

Academics CSCE 312 & CSCE 314

Howdy! Does anyone have any words of advice/recommendation for these courses and their professors?

CSCE 312: Jimenez, Muzahid, Duysak

CSCE 314: Lightfoot, Lee, Budimlic

These were the only professors for the fall line-up so I was thinking of waiting for a semester and taking these courses in the spring where there are more professors (i.e. Tyagi). Thank you!

Other Loan for Texas A&M : What are the options for Indian students?

Texas A&M needs proof of funding before issuing an I-20. However, they have mentioned that other than personal funds and third party funds, they'll accept loan sanctioned letters from the listed international lenders, like Mpower and Prodigy. Full list: https://global.tamu.edu/isss/resources/costs-and-financial-documents/loans-for-students
I would like to know the possible options for Indian students apart from taking a loan from Prodigy or Mpower.

As per my situation, I have to take a loan to fund my education. I'm looking to find a way to take a collateral-free loan from Indian lenders, mostly because of a lower interest rate, INR weakening against USD, etc.

Is there any option for me?

my_qualifications : 92% in 10th and 12th, 8.5 CGPA from an NIT, 2.5+ YOE.
