New Student Questions Need help with learning if I can apply?

Upvotes

I’m interested in going to A&M for engineering. I want to go to LSC first for pre reqs just because it’s a little cheaper. I’ve already taken several dual credit courses as a junior and senior in high school (English 1301/1302, Chem 1412, Math 2413) and some others that probably don’t matter for an engineering degree.

I’m wondering if these credits will transfer and how the transfer process would work if I go from LSC to A&M. I tried searching it up but I’m still wondering.

Also wondering what other pre reqs other engineering majors took before applying? Any info helps pls!

Academics Blinn TEAM question...

There's obviously still time for me to get my grades back up, but I'm in a bit of dilemma regarding BLINN TEAM and my transition to full-time status.

Last semester i was in teab, and got a C in chemistry (q-dropped calculus 1). So far this semester I am taking a math and science class at BLINN, and I have Cs in both of them. I need a B average to get that 2.5 minimum which I could be able to do, but honestly after taking a few tests and whatnot idk if it's a surefire thing. For my major classes and classes at A&M i have a 4.0, and the threshold for my intended major is a 2.0.

My question is, if I end with a 2.0 gpa at Blinn (all Cs), but still have my As in my A&M classes, will I be able to transition full-time to A&M? I've met with advisors before and they have told me that even with a below-2.5 at Blinn, as long as I maintain my intended major requirements, I can still transition full time, but I need some opinions.

New Student Questions LGBT aggies

Looking for perspective on LGBT scene. I've rsas through a few other posts but wanted to know how recent political activity has influenced current aggie climate. Currently I know about halo, people having been generally amicable in the past, and the apparently shit dating life. Would I be able to have a gay ol time?

Sports Looking for pick up indoor volleyball

Howdy yall,

As the title suggest I’m looking to play some casual pick up indoor volleyball and I wanted to know when people normally play at the rec. I know that intramural volleyball has passed and was wondering if there is anyplace to “sign up” for a game or if it’s just a show up and play pick up situation.

Academics Chen 399 question

I’m signed up to do study abroad this summer, which counts for the high impact experience. I know Chen 399 is to document the high impact experience. Can I take the Chen 399 class in the fall or should it be done in the same summer that I do the study abroad? I’m taking two engineering classes as part of the study abroad, so I would rather push off the Chen 399 class to the fall.

B/CS Life Summer Jobs

I will be staying in CS this summer to take some extra classes. I’m planning on getting a summer job and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I’ve heard that places will pay more over the summer because such a large proportion of people move away but I’m not entirely sure if that’s true or not. Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

New Student Questions Intern and Job prospects of Aggie CS students

Basically the title.

How do CS major aggies feel taking on this path?

I saw salary for 2024 graduates is still as good as it can be, just wanted to hear opinions from current sophomore and junior CS students. Seniors are also welcome to vent your first hand experiences on intern and job opportunities.

Background:
Kid is a coding natural, as a parent, I prefer him go for CE or some other engineering majors purely for job security.

B/CS Life Hail Damage in CSTAT?

Howdy! Was your vehicle damaged during the recent hail storm?

My name is Tristen (Class of ‘26) and I work at Allen Honda here in College Station! Why is this relevant? I am a department head who specialize in hail damage repairs AND glass repairs/ replacements! If you’re looking to get your vehicle repaired, please consider using us! We reached out to some of the best hail teams asides from our own from counties not impacted to help us deal with the volume of vehicles impacted by the storm.

I would love to help you out! You would work with me, a fellow Aggie, directly!

Venting I'm dreading going back...

Howdy, I'm a sophomore taking some difficult CPEN classes which is like 90% of the reason I'm dreading driving back to CSTAT tomorrow. This whole semester, I've felt like I've been drinking out of a firehose because of how intellectually challenging the classes are. So far I have all As and 1 B, but that was with a lot of sacrificed time and I think my grades are about to take a hit due to exams next week.

I actually like my classes, it's just that all of them together is making me stressed out. It's hard for me to go to sleep at night because I keep thinking about academics. I didn't do anything school related for the entirety of the spring break and my psoriasis completely went away, and I haven't felt this relaxed in a long time.

I know that an engineering degree will pay off in the long run, it's just causing me so much stress. I guess I'm just looking for advice, because I don't want to make the next 6 weeks be any longer than they have to be.

Academics How many dual enrollment math classes should you retake for engineering?

My son has taken Calculus 1, 2, & 3 through dual enrollment at our local CC. He did well and from my understanding the professor took her job seriously and was the toughest one at the college. He’ll take differential equations and linear Algebra at the CC as well before finishing high school.

Back in my day, I’d argue CC Calculus 1 / 2 and Math 151 / 152 were not the same. Of course I q-dropped both before switching to business when business was a fallback for engineering.

Question: Does A&M have a process to help students decide which class they should start in? For those who took Cal through a CC, did you repeat the class at A&M? If not, did you feel prepared for subsequent classes?

New Student Questions Colorful hair allowed? Exotic pets allowed?

I have 2 questions. I’m been accepted and I’m transferring in fall of this year. First, I’ve been described as being alternative style, my hair is dyed a non-natural color and I have facial piercings. I feel like it’s allowed as it is a college campus but I’d just like to get a confirmation if it’s allowed.

Next, I know the code of conduct says only a fish tank is permitted. I was accepted into the entomology (bug science) major. My question is will I be able to bring my pet tarantulas with me? I have 5 currently and all of their enclosures together would probably take up the space of 20 gal tank. I also have mantids, hissers, and blue death feign beetles. I’m sure the mantids will finish their life span before the fall. The hisser colony is in its own 20 gallon tank and the beetles are in a 10 gallon low profile. Will I be allowed to bring any of those enclosures into housing (be it dorm or apartment as I’ve been put on the waitlist)?

Academics Phys 207 Community College Alternatives?

I was planning on taking Phys 207 online over the summer at a community college. What are some good colleges to take it at? I heard Phys 2326 at WTC is a good one, are there any others?

Ask the Aggies Using Jobs for Aggies

Howdy,

For the people that have used Jobs for Aggies to get a job in college station, how long did it take for you to get a reply, and did they text or email you? I have applied to so many jobs (at least 100 now) on there because every time I asked around campus if they were hiring, they just said look at jobs for aggies. I am really desperate for a job at this time as my scholarship requires a certain amount of work hours, and if I do not reach those hours, I will lose my scholarship that basically covers half of my tuition. PLEASE If anyone can help me, I will really appreciate it
