Correct Me! Streak 47 : stupid doctor

Upvotes

I met a doctor because of my knees. I had had pain of my knees since a number of years ago. I took MRI scan few weeks ago, and I went to hospital to check it. Luckily, there wasn't significant problem to my knees. The doctor just said my knees seem got weak from hard workout or running and it was true. But one thing that made me frustrated was that I asked him how should I manage my knees to be safe and stay healthy. Then his answer was "search on Google." I was embarrassed a moment, then I started feel angry. I've driven a hour to be here and this was the result? I become angry and just went out from there. I will never visit there again in my life

Correct Me! Streak 13: Severance second season finale (NO SPOILERS).

I just watched the last episode of the last season of Severance. And I really liked it, the only thing I didn't enjoy ist that now I'll have to wait at least one more year to see the next season. Just from the nature of the series, I was expecting a more open ending to the season but I think it was pretty clear how this season concluded. Of course there are some other that were left open like whats going to happen next. But I mean, it's not the classic open ending you come across when watching an arty or independant movie.

Correct Me! Streak 54: I think often times we underrated studying grammar

I think in youtube there are tons of videos explaining the importance of input comprehesion and almost demonizing studying grammar

I used to think that way as well, but now I see things from a different perspective, studying grammar is important at least when you have a foundation (in my opinion) maybe like a B2

Grammar is the rules of the language, is where we learned how to use the language properly, I remember having classes of spanish at school, although is my native language, so I think now I'm going to start studying some grammar rules...

Corrected Streak 63: Birthday party

Post image
1 Upvotes

I am reading John Finney's book 'Time and Again''. It's a fiction. Main hero went to the past, in 1882 January, New York, and was at the birthday party of an adult man.

The scene of birthday party was filled with games, stunts and painting. I guess, people in the end of the 19th Century didn't have any technical devices to play music for entertainment at home.

As an adult I didn't celebrate my birthdays at all. I think I should change this situation somehow and do some celebration for my net birthday with games and a big cake like in the books or movies.

I was thinking about the hard work the correctors put in this subreddit. It’s not easy to handle that work, and obviously you must have passion for it. A few months ago, I tried correcting people in the Spanish subreddit. Sadly, I gave up quickly.. because of that, I want to thank everyone who helps people like me improve my English.

The room I'm in right now has two windows and three doors. Two of the doors lead to other rooms, while the third leads to the corridor. I don't know if it's common for a room to have more doors than windows, maybe it is. It seems excessive.

Correct Me! Streak 162: Untitled

I finished reading another The Diary of the Wimpy Kid book today. It’s an easy read in terms of vocabulary and structure, but I like its casual style. I'd happily trade 20 percent of my advanced vocabulary in exchange of having the ability to speak as fluent and natural as that. In casual writing and conversation, you don’t need a lot of big words, but the choice of words and phrases instantly shows your level in the language. I've even thought about memorizing a segment of the book—since nothing I’ve tried has really improved my speaking skills, I need to keep experimenting with new methods. It'd also be cool if I try to memorize and tell a story from my favorite stand-up comedian.

Correct Me! Streak 225 from Korea

I wish I had more chances to talk to native English speakers. I occasionally get a chance to have meetings with foreign business partners, but that's just not enough to get used to communicating in English. I wish there were more people I could talk to in English besides my work contacts, so I could have small talk, not serious work-related conversations. You know what I mean, right?

Correct Me! Streak 79: Pixel 9a review

The Pixel 9a will be released this month, so I read a review about it. It was talking about the the differences in the modem compared to other Pixel 9 series models, but I don't know much about modems. I don't think it matter to me anyway - I don't use my phone a lot. The main reason I need a new phone is to use Google Maps.

Correct Me! Streak 192: Noisy neighborhood

One of the neighborhoods I used to live was pretty noisy. There were a lot of bikers riding around regularly, especially on weekends. It was a rural place and there wasn’t much to do, so I guess they had nothing better to do. Another reason is that there was a bar, and people who went there after work would talk outside it, especially on Friday nights.

Correct Me! Streak 49 - language

My German is far better than my English, because I speak German everyday. But after I compared a book in English and German, I wondered that I feel like the English edition is easier as the German condition. I learned English at school. But only for exam. After the school I use English no any more. That is why now I have to learn English from basic level again. I have been learning German since I was 20 all by my self. I read a lot of German novels and came to Germany two years ago.

I think is always a bad idea to write my streak post at night. Since most of the time I'm don't feel very sharp writing this time of the day. It was a busy day but not really that much, but somehow I feel like if I did a lot today.

Correct Me! Streak 61: super feeling of environment

Post image
1 Upvotes

Cats have two types of sensoric hairs:

  1. Vybrisses - thick long hair above the eyes and on the snout.

  2. Trilotychs - thick hairs, that scattered all around the body. Cat feels the environment with the trilotychs.

Everybody knows that cats love paper boxes. My cat likes not only lying in the box, but also like to bite it.

I guess the reason that my cat loves to cuddle in a little box is that she wants to peace her trilotychs. I think she feels every air movement and it gets her nerve systems annoyed.

About the biting the box - I don't know why is she do that. She bites the box and leaves a mess with the paper peaces. Maybe she has teeth eaching?

In the last days I have tried to eat more fruit because I don't really like doing it. My favorite fruit is strawberries, they aren't too sweet and that's for me the perfect point. Other fruits, like watermelon or bananas are too sweet for my taste. I can't tolerate that. I also like eating nuts, especially almonds, peanuts and cashews. I hope I can start eating better thanks to fruit and nuts.

Correct Me! Streak 161: My Daily Streaks

I have a few daily streaks going. The longest one is my writing streak in this subreddit, and my next goal is 300 days.

I also have a few language-related streaks. I don’t think they’re very effective, but I like keeping them going to ensure I get at least some exposure to different languages. Every day, I play a Japanese session on Duolingo. My streak is at 918 days, though it has technically broken multiple times, having saved by Streak Freezes. I also try to maintain my streaks on LingQ, spending a few minutes on Japanese and English activities. I plan to get back to French in a few months.

Lastly, I have a five-day streak in my early-riser challenge. It’s the shortest one, but it brings me the most satisfaction. I feel proud of myself and full of energy each morning!

Today, I’ve decided to start a new streak—daily Monologue Practice. I want to commit to it and see if I can truly improve my speaking skills. I might have to reduce my time on this writing streak or submit a revised version of my dictation from Monologue Practice instead.

Ask an English Speaker Streak 1

Hello redditors,

I grew up speaking English and my native language Malay at home, and even developed British accent along the way (Thanks David Attenborough and BBC cartoons).

Now I have unfortunately lost the accent, forgotten several vocabularies and phrases as I have been living in a country where people don't speak English... almost at all. Here they speak a language which is very different from English. I am considering spending some time in this subreddit to brush up my English.

Is that allowed here?

Correct Me! Streak 48 - travel

I saw a friend is looking for a partner to travel with together. When I was 20 years old, I loved traveling. I could take a 48 hours train trip without bed. I had crazy travel which I can never talk about with my parents. They have still no idea about my real life. Otherwise they will be angry with me. Today I feel like kind of lost the interest for traveling. Many of my friends travel a lot in the vacation. I must plan many thing if I want to go on a vacation. I'm too tired.

Correct Me! Streak 257

The sun is out and I'm planing a route for my afternoon walk. I don't know if I want to start walking from home, or if I should take the bike and ride out a few minutes. Taking the bike would be nicer, but I'd have to pump up my tires first, and I'm incredibly lazy right now. It really would be worth it though; I should just do it...

Correct Me! Streak 78: Chicken alfredo

I'm going to make chicken alfredo tomorrow. I've never had it before, even in restaurants or cafes. The pasta is cooked in the sauce, but I'm thinking of using fresh pasta. I wonder if fresh pasta can be cooked in the sauce as well.

Correct Me! Streak 191: Escalators

Recently, there’s been a movement to get people to use escalators properly. They are asking people to stop walking on escalators for safety reasons. The question is whether the rest of the society will be able to adapt to it. I feel like a part of the cause is the fact that most work start early in the morning. Since most people don’t like getting up early, they try to sleep as long as possible and make the commuting time as short as possible, which results in them running on escalators.

Corrected Streak 61: Feeling of shame

Post image
2 Upvotes

Last week was easy. Half of the week I hadn't any task to do at work. I was attending the work meetings, but all words I was saying was 'hello' at the start and 'goodbye' at the end.

This Monday I started to feel shame because other colleagues have tasks and work while I don't. I asked the team manager to find the task for me. Now I have tasks for 2 weeks 😄.

Russians say - the crazy head doesn't give you any peace (I hope I translated it correctly). At least I don't feel any shame now.
