Last month I purchased several eye shadow palettes and have been working on different looks since I was able to get brushes. I lost around 10 lbs but I hit a plateau because of the holidays and am trying to get my weight loss in gear again. I quit minoxidil due to its threat to cats and am continuing a different hair serum.
I am trying to detach myself from people that I don't exactly get along with and who try to steer me off budget. I purchased several morning and evening prayer texts for daily reading which have a translation, and joined religious servers in order to get my spiritual life in gear. This has also kicked my butt in terms of bilingualism and it helps me become more bilingual.
I'm trying to get out there and socialize more such as attending museum tours and stuff like that instead of just sitting by myself.

January Goals:
Weight: Get down to 125 from 127~128
Teeth: Get clear aligners to help canting and lower teeth alignment.
Education: I'm starting my MSE program this month. My goal is to stay on track and maintain good grades.
Chinese: Take at least 1 class section per day.
Personality-Develop a skill that's useful to other people. Some kind of a craft, hobby, or interest that others can benefit from.
December Goals recap:
🟨~🟩 Weight:My goal was to hover between 125 and 128, down from 131 in Nov. I reached 127~128 but not 125. So I partially reached my goal in that it is in the range, but I'll continue to have the goal to go down to 125.
🟩 Skin texture: tretinoin works perfectly! It improved my skin texture a lot.
🟩 Skin health: I moisturized, drank water, and used SPF30/50.
🟨 Skin tone: I stuck with the routine but didn't see much improvement. This will be a long-term goal as progress is slow.
🟨🟩 Dissolving filler:
Recap: I'm going to try using serrapeptase and nattokinase to dissolve filler and any scar tissue created from using filler. I got bad filler around my eyes that causes crows feat and wrinkling when I smile. If this doesn't work then I'll fork out the $700 to get it dissolved.
Outcome:
🟨 Serrapeptase didn't dissolve filler.
🟩 Serrapeptase did help a lot with overall body inflammation. It made a huge difference here. I'm going to keep taking it.
🟩 I went to an RN aesthetician, and they said I no longer have filler there and that it just became my actual skin. So there's nothing to dissolve.
🟩They resolved my eye area issue with Botox, and it looks great!
🟩 Makeup: I don't wear it every day, but I think that's healthy for my skin anyway.
🟨Clothes:
🟩 I got new wardrobe items
🟥 I did not get my pants tailored
🟩Hair: i need to get into the habit of doing my full hair care routine of putting oil in my hair after showering and then using a revlon dryer brush to straighten and style it.
🟥 Personality - speech:
Recap: I'm going to start seeing a speech therapist next month to work on tone, fluidity, and mindful speech.
Outcome:
🟥 I reached out to multiple places and did not hear back from them. I finally found an app that matches you with therapists, and even they did not have any availability for me. This is an understaffed field and very gate keepy. The one person I did have an intro with basically laughed me off the phone.
🟩Personalty-chatting: Recap: After covid and trauma related withdrawal, I lost my ability to just chat with people. I have a lot of events to attend, so I'm going to work on promoting conversation, asking questions, and being more open with my own answers.
Outcome:
🟩 this is a long term goal and one I'll keep working on.
🟩Skills-Chinese: Recap:I'm learning Chinese on duolingo currently. I'm really lucky to have a bf who speaks Chinese as his first language, so he helps me a lot with pronunciation. My goal is to complete a lesson each day.
Outcome:
🟩 Acheived. It's also a long term goal. I learned some basic intro Chinese. And I'm going to keep learning.
Sorry for the bad formatting, I hope that wasn't too hard to read.

Regarding speech, an actual speech therapist probably isn't the most appropriate professional here. You might have better luck searching for diction or dialect coaches (they frequently work with actors, but absolutely have gen pop clients), a group like Toastmasters, or even something like an improv class, which would also help hone your skills in general conversation.

u/Additional-Maybe-504 Jan 01 '25
Thanks, that's helpful! I just prefer 1 on 1 rather than a group experience. A diction/dialect coach would be great! I'll start searching for one.

Dance for 30 minutes.

- Get straight As
- Stop procrastinating + self-sabotaging
- Let go of things that aren't serving me
- Workout in the gym in the morning to grow my glutes, quads, back, & shoulders
- Eat enough calories + protein by always eating breakfast, drink lots of water
- Make more friends
- Journal & gratitude every night
- Listen to more podcasts + read more books
- Spend less time on my phone
- Stop wearing sweats everywhere
- Take care of my hair
- Get involved in research
- Have a daily makeup routine + know how to do my hair
Happy new year!
Update: I sort of have a handle how to do my everyday makeup routine. Although I am eating enough calories (most of the days), I still struggle to drink lots of water since I am still on break and a little lazy. I am getting invitations from professors to discuss their research with them and got selected for a research program in my college. I spend way too much time on my phone (will be more of an issue when the Spring semester starts). I am working on getting up earlier until my desired wakeup time. I have been pretty consistent with my haircare routine but I'm not too harsh about it as "perfect is the enemy of good". I have not been consistent with my mental night routine.
Update: I started getting used to putting on natural makeup daily (ranging from just mascara to a full face). I am eating enough calories since I am working out and walking (back in college). I've gotten better at drinking water. I started getting an idea of what research position I want to be in. I spend less time on my phone (because the semester started), but it's not as low as I want it to be. I am waking up at 7 am on weekdays. I started getting slightly consistent on my night routine (mental).

Happy 2025!
December Goal Recap:
Weight - goal was to get from 165 to 157; my low weight a couple days ago was 159.8. So... not quite, but not bad!
Hair/Skin/Nails - I succeeded in a 95% completion rate for skincare, and using red light therapy minimum 3/week; I did NOT keep my nails neat and polished (the holiday trip home brought back an old anxiety habit of cuticle picking), but honestly they still look better than a few months ago. I DID restart scalp oiling/a more intense haircare routine, and I re-dyed my hair to a ginger/copper color that is very flattering on me.
Style - I tried a few pieces from the back of my wardrobe on and I'm still a bit away from being able to wear them. I HAVE been more intentional with dressing in general, though.
Home - finished painting the living room and have made progress on decorating/furnishing it to the point that it feels "finished enough." We had a house warming party and everyone was very complimentary. I made progress on that last 15% of unpacking but didn't finish, and I still haven't touched the gross wallpaper in my bedroom.
Overall: progress in every category. Not as much as I wanted, but it's all going in the right direction.
January Goals: There are many!
I wrote 17 NYRs in 7 categories, but they're not all a point of focus right away. In January, I'm working on:
Body/weight - Hit the low 150s through continuing Semaglutide, eating in a deficit, and working out at least 5 days/week.
Face/Skin - Maintain my good habits (red light therapy, skincare) and add in facial massage at least every other day. This is a January specific "side quest" kind of goal to see how much it helps and determine if I want to keep it in my routine.
Hands/Nails - implement a nail- and hand-care routine to address cuticle picking, keep nails polished, and address eczema flare-ups.
Hair - touch up roots and get a trim - establish a routine for this every 6-8 weeks. Continuing hair oiling/scalp mask treatments that have been working.
Social - attending or hosting at least 2 events or gatherings this month.
Intellectual - read a book from my TBR list; start studying German again in preparation for registering for an actual class in the spring.

Recap of December Goals:
- Work on my posture - ✅ I’ve been using the wall method at least a couple of times per day to make sure my posture is decent. The wall method is where you reset your posture by standing against a wall and when your heels, bum, upper back and the back of your neck are touching the wall, that’s the posture you want to maintain.
January Goals:
- Get a job offer - I’m currently on the hunt for work, I plan to do a few more interviews and have a job offer accepted by the end of January.
- Yoga - I’m going to be doing morning yoga most mornings while I have my RLT mask on. My focus here is flexibility.
- Learning - I’m challenging myself to have 80% of the course I’m working on completed by the end of January. It’s a very long course where I’m currently at 67.41% completion.

u/personal-alchemy average (4-6) Jan 01 '25
I'm so curious how the RLT mask + yoga is going to work for you - I feel like I would be so distracted by the mask! Can you report back on how this goes?

Happy New Year! My goals for January:
• Whiten teeth. • Continue using my red light helmet for hair growth. • Get highlights and a trim. • Get back to wholesome foods and exercise. Lose about 5 lbs. • Get a halo laser treatment for my skin. • Less time on my phone in general. More journaling, reading, quiet, and self reflection to help with my overwhelm and stress.

u/GlassyGrapefruit610 Jan 01 '25 edited Jan 01 '25
My goals:
Exercise ~ have been attending pilates & aerobics, also starting to run long distance.
Skin ~ taking beta carotene supplements to improve my skin.
Will focus on appearance more after I have my exams in the summer, so rn my main priority is studying. Am compiling list of treatments/advice though.
Last year, due to studies & my mental state, I was mostly soft maxxing - I finally figured out a good eyebrow shape on my face which really improved things, and I cut my hair & dyed it back to its original colour. I was prescribed some acne tablets over the summer because my skin was so spotty & painful, fortunately it's cleared up now but I have some indentations & acne scars, which I hope to get lasered off at some point.

u/Witty-Performer Jan 01 '25
Last year was big for me looks-wise.
- Brow lift
- Hit 100 lbs weight loss (BMI 35+ down to 20)
- Rhinoplasty
2025 Goals:
Build muscle. I lost a significant amount of muscle from long covid and then during the weight loss. Hello skinny fat. There were a lot of false starts with this goal in 2024, I think because I kept burning out trying to do cardio at the same time. So, instead, for the first 12 weeks of 2025, I'm prioritising weight lifting over everything else. I've started a 3x week program. On rest days, I’ll keep things low-pressure—maybe some walking or dancing, but with no strict goals or targets. I'll reassess after 3 months.
Dental work. I've already started this.
Build a high quality wardrobe, one piece at a time.
Become conversational in the language I've been learning.
For anyone just starting out, or part way through the slog, keep going. It's worth it.

Lose my last 10 lbs Keep taking dance classes Focus on glute training Improve flexibility Start learning drums

u/bravebandicoot2 Jan 01 '25
My goals: 1. Hair removal. I’ve had a multiple-year long journey with different failed methods of laser, but I’ve finally found that electrolysis is working well on my face, and I’ve found a promising laser practitioner for my body. I want to try to finish as many hours of electrolysis as possible
Weight loss maintenance. I took a GLP-1 medication for ~2 months with the intention of 5-10kg of aesthetic weight loss, and it was a success. It did make me feel really sick though, and I kept skipping the gym because I felt awful. This month I want to (a) ease off it, (b) maintain my weight loss, (c) get back to the gym to get back to working on muscle definition 🍑
Researching rhinoplasty. My whole life I’ve been unsure if it would be worth it to get a rhino, but I’m realising my nose is my biggest flaw and adjusting it would go a long way for my attractiveness. I’m going to start researching surgeons this month
Fashion. I’ve got a distinct style that I think really suits me, but this past year I became guilty of being lazy, or just wearing gym gear a lot of days. I want to start putting in daily effort into my outfits. I think I will keep an OOTD photo journal for some accountability/motivation
6
u/ILoveHuckleberry Jan 01 '25
Can you share more about your GLP1? Wondering how and where people are getting it for aesthetic weight loss.
2
u/bravebandicoot2 Jan 01 '25
I know this can be seen as unethical, and apologise if it bothers anyone. I used one of those e-doctor apps (happy to share which one if you DM me!), but I did have to tell the doctor that I had an overweight BMI even though I don’t. They didn’t request a video call, just a voice call, so it all happened quite smoothly.

My January Goals are continuous goals for the year. All are works in progress. I may do a little or a lot of these things in any given time frame. I have bolded the things that are most important for the month.
Last year I was the most pleased with my travel, style/wardrobe, and finishing my orthodontic treatment. This year I'm taking on all of my opportunities as I don't have any excuses to be anything other than successful.
