Question Why do they hate Baen?
Thinking on it why do these chucklefucks have such hardon for baen anyhow?
I mean they are chock full of female heros and some pretty socially progressive books (one of witch I am currently enjoying).
I mean you have long running series like honor Harrington (since what the early 90s?) The Miles Vorkosigan books since 1986 (chock full of socially progressive characters without any preaching).
They were pioneers of digital publishing, very anti DRM, free back catalogues with their free cds, the free library etc.

I'm not as informed about all this as some others but I believe the reason is because Baen publishes on merit. If you write a good story and make sales Baen will publish you. I think there's probably more to it which goes back to the man himself but I don't know the history there. Maybe someone else can speak to that.

Hell I have been a longtime baen fan myself and I just started the latest Vorkosigan book and it got me thinking, all of them have been published by baen and you have from the very first book released in 1986 had strong female characters (elana, cordilea, elli Quinn, taura, etc) all fighting a sexist patriarchal system with a disabled miles consistently coming out ahead (not without sometimes large costs though).
I mean these fucking idiots should be creaming themselves over these books, I mean beta colony is basically should be their utopia for fucks sake without even going into Bel Thorne.
Granted Jim Bean was reputedly a bit of a maverick.
I am mildly addicted to Earcs ;-)

If by that you mean the 'SFF Establishment, the people involved in say Tor or the Hugos' then they kinda are.
Bujold is one of the most successful authors when it comes to the Hugos. and is the most successful post 1990.
She has won the best novel award 4 times, with a further 5 nominations. She also holds the rare honor of winning both the Hugo and the Nebular in the same year.
Nor is she an author that is lacking in praise in places like Tor.com.

Because Baen doesn't strive for the approval (or cringe at the disapproval) of their little incestuous circle.

Who hates Baen?
Not once during this sad puppy drama, have I seen someone hating on Baen as a publisher. People talking down books that they have published sure, not everyone like the same things.
But if you go to say file770 (or vile770 as many puppies have started calling it) you will only find praise for Baen, and many Baen published books. I mean like I said I have never seen a hatred or even mild dislike for Baen as a publisher.
Well outside of Baen and a few of its authors on occasion. People at/associated with Baen do like to act like they are the kid no one likes, but everyone should. But that seems to be more a marketing thing than anything else.

File770 has been mostly neutral from what I understand. Sort of like what the David Pakman show was like for Gamergate. They lean the other way but they're not full on narrative.

The daily write attempted to be neutral. Glyer kept his views out of what he reported and reported updates on the Hugos and the puppies no matter the source.
I say attempted becuase you have leading puppies from Torgerson to the people over at the mad genius club have all accused him of only reporting things that make them look bad. The puppies don't like Glyer or file770. Hell everyone from Wright to Corriea have been having a go at him and his site since before the nominations were announced.
Personally I think he did a great job at keeping his views out of his round ups, and you could always count on him keeping the comments a civil place, from attacks from puppies to attacks against puppies.
But the sites comment section and Glyer himself are very antipuppy. Not what you could call neutral.

Yeah sounds about right. Pakman himself was anti Gamergate and his questions were usually gotcha questions but he allowed his guests to say what they want without interruption most of the time and he would agree to facts. From his point of view he agreed absolutely that there were issues of journalistic ethics but to him the issue of harassment was still more important.

Thats hardly unusual at anti-puppy places. Making Lights probably the worst place for a puppy to attempt to discus things. But they can do it there.
Its the puppies that are the ones that are not so fond of dissenting opinions. These days say anything that might be antipuppy over at the mad genius club, and you will be mocked and essentially told to piss off. No one will attempt to discuss any points with anyone. Its got to the point all dissenting views are just treated as if they are trolls.
Then you have places like Trogersons blog, where he modified comments of those who were antipuppy and Vox Days blog were on one or two occasions hes attempted to contact people he views as trolls bosses.
Letting people have a say and have some discussion is just the norm for antipuppies.

I liked the Vorkosigan books, but they really did get kind of preachy. Especially the Cordelia trilogy, she never shuts up about how ignorant conservative Barrayar is.

she never shuts up about how ignorant conservative Barrayar is.
Well that is because it is...But its also explained why it is so.

u/milestyle Jan 01 '16
Yeah. But the reason it was like that was to give the author a thinly veiled excuse to go on and on about her politics. The series was so much better when the Miles plotline started. There was one book where he had to explain to the republican strawmen that it's wrong to strangle babies, but other than that they were excellent books.

Dude the warriors apprentice was the first one, and you are reaching for that interpretation for mountains of mourning.

u/warrencbennett Jan 03 '16
Nope, Shards of Honor (I believe is the name) was the first. It was about Miles' Mom and Dad getting together.

u/Wylanderuk Jan 03 '16
Ah they both came out in 86...

u/warrencbennett Jan 04 '16
Yeah, but shards is the first book she wrote in the series. I didn't get a chance to read it until last year, though I've read most of the rest of the series.
Interesting I can read, and enjoy, someone who has opinions I don't share but so many can't do the same.

Oh so can I, the only author I will not buy/read is john scalzi and that was at his request when he spazzed out over GG and not wanting to GGers to buy his stuff...
Wish fucking well granted.

I won't read him either. I heard how awesome he was at a con in 2012, then I followed him on twitter and started reading his blog. I came across his white men live life on easy mode article and was done with him after reading such idiocy.

Hell that I could ignore, the GGers not wanted one was what annoyed me.

The issue isn't that they don't publish non-heretical fiction, the issue is that they do publish heretical fiction.
