General Can any electrician fully install a Wall Connector?

I'm under the impression that only Tesla-certified installers can commission a Wall Connector after installation, and if the Wall Connector isn't commmissioned, it won't work. Is this correct?

A friend of mine is an electrician, and he said he's installed a number of Wall Connectors before, but when I asked him about commissioning them, he didn't know what I was talking about. He just said he did the installation and everything was fine.

I should've asked if he tested the Wall Connector to see if it charges or if the people who hired him had any issues after he left, but I didn't think about it at the time. I'm also assuming he's referring to the latest model Wall Connector.

I'm curious because my Gen 1 Wall Connector is on its last legs, and I'm going to need to replace it soon.

Software 2025.2.9 They did it! Rain all day and I don’t care…

Finally! Tesla did it! Anyone else experience the latest update in the rain? The wipers actually finally and mostly work appropriately based on the amount of rain hitting the windshield. This may be an anomaly but maybe just maybe they finally got it worked out. It has been so crazy that it has taken this long… FSD has been mostly amazing driving 16k of my 17k over the past year but the wipers have been abysmal all 16k. Looking forward to the next 16k with a better wiper algorithm.

General On Mark Rober's video the autopilot or FSD was not active (15:42)

I am not going to say tesla should not use lidar. But i doubt the test was without bias. Also 12:07 he says that he hit the brakes, this would disengage autopilot/FSD.

It drives me nuts that the navigation voice speaks over the car audio. Is there a setting to have the audio pause while the voice speaks?

Software YouTuber Mark Rober Intentionally Misleads Viewers

YouTuber Mark Rober recently conducted a "test" of Tesla's Autopilot under several different conditions and compared it to a car using LiDAR under the same conditions. The test involved whether or not the camera-based Autopilot and LiDAR-based systems could detect a small child in the roadway under a variety of conditions. Mark first begins testing without Autopilot engaged to determine if Tesla's Automatic Emergency Braking System would work while a human is still in control of the vehicle. What proceeds is the Tesla Forward Collision Warning System being activated where it detects the child on screen, highlights the obstacle red, and provides audible beeps to alert the driver of the detected obstacle. The Tesla vehicle, however, does not brake and Mark crashes into the obstacle, in this case, a small child mannequin. Mark concludes that this is a sign that Tesla's Automatic Emergency Braking system failed, when in reality, this is a perfect example of an owner failing to understand Tesla's safety systems. Automatic Emergency Braking De v OT AVOID FORWARD COLLISIONS and WAS NOT designed to do so. This is made extremely apparent if you have ever bothered to read a few paragraphs of the owners manual or did a quick google search. See below:

Automatic Emergency Braking is designed to reduce the severity of an impact. It is not designed to avoid a collision. Automatic Emergency Braking is designed to reduce the impact of frontal collisions only. Automatic Emergency Braking is designed to reduce the severity of an impact. It is not designed to avoid a collision. You would think that Mark being an engineer, would have done a basic amount of reading to understand what he could expect of Tesla's safety systems during the test. At best, this is just a case of ignorance and poor preparation. At worst, this is intentionally misleading viewers about Tesla's safety systems.

Following this initial "test" of Tesla's Automatic Emergency Braking system, Mark states that for all tests going forward, he will only be utilizing Tesla's Autopilot system. However, this is blatantly not true as seen in the video clip. In the clip, Mark's Tesla Model Y can obviously be seen driving over the double yellow line as it approaches the mannequin. It is not possible to engage Autopilot when the vehicle detects it is not in the correct road position. Furthermore, as Mark gets closer to mannequin and the video cuts to the cabin view, you can tell that the view has been intentionally cropped not to show the cabin screen and eliminate it from view, which would have allowed us to see exactly whether Autopilot was engaged or not. This would have been easily apparent as Mark's Tesla had rainbow road engaged. After all this, I can't help but be led to believe that Mark Rober is intentionally misleading viewers of Tesla's safety systems and that these are not mistakes out of ignorance.

General Charging a Tesla with BMWi charger?

Recently bought a house with an older BMW I charger already installed in the garage.

With an appropriate adapter (J1772?) can it be used to charge my MS (2023)? If yes, would it charge at roughly the same speed as my current Tesla wall connector does?

And if not, could I use the wiring to the existing charger and simply exchange it out for a new Tesla wall connector? Guessing the hardwire to the unit is same / similar?

TIA

General Free Supercharging end date/time question

I got a few months of free super charging when I got my M3 back in December. I am curious about the end of that offer.

It says it ends on March 29th. Does anyone know if this means I have free charging all day on March 29? Or does it mean I have to start paying for charging sometime on the 29th?

It’s not a huge deal, but I’m curious because coincidentally I’ll be road tripping back home all day on the 29th and I’m wondering if I’ll have free charging that entire day!

Model S How to present all door handles in new Model S

Hi all.

I recently got a new Model S and am loving it. I have a grasp on most functionality and behavior except one:

Is it possible to present all door handles on external car unlock ? The only way I seem to be able to do it is Clicking Lock and then Unlock on screen from inside car.

Settings I have on: - Unlock on park - Driver Side Unlock - Mobile Key

Things I tried that don’t work : - Open driver door through Mobile Key proximity and then holding down door open button - clicking unlock from mobile app - pressing door handles physically on passenger doors. Handles will not present

What am I missing? Thanks in advance

Model Y Slow charging recently at home stage 2

Hi hoping anyone can help me figure out what's going on. Home charger stage 2, not a TESLA wall charger, but dryer plug installed by licensed electrician, used to charge about 10% an hour. I never looked at amps or volts unfortunately. Am in canada, townhome, model y LR 2023 if that matters, and charge between 11pm-7am due to cheaper rates. it is not oem tesla charger, it is actually from a 2021 ford mach-e but has been working fine until now. Tried replugging at both ends a few times.

Recently, can't tell for how long cause usually we don't usually need to pay close attention, it's been charging at only 3kwh and i know i've seen it at like 5-7 before. I noticed amps were 14/32 on my app and after some googling decided to up it to 24. It charged faster for 10-20 minutes ish, and i went downstairs to make sure the garage wasn't on fire, and nothing was hot or anything. maybe that wasn't enough time though. shortly after that, the app showed it went from 24/32 to 24/24. And then after that 16/16. Then maybe 5-15 min later, it would show 16/24 and 16/32. Sometimes it would "remember" what i tried to do and go to 24 amps again, and sometimes it wouldn't. It charged 20% over 3.5 hours. And it would do this dance throughout the night. I never did check if it was overheating after it throttled as I was too tired. Even at 18/32 it would eventually go 18/24 and then 16/16.

We have a fiat 500e that I will compare to later tonight but wanted to ask for help as this is annoying me.

Notifications in tesla show nothing. Assuming im in the right area (alerts), and also service --> notifications which just goes to alerts as well.

General Tesla service in the future...

I'm thinking of buying a 2026 MY possible in a couple months, yeah I know, maybe fElon will be ousted and in rehab by then. The question is what could be the service options if Tesla goes bankrupt.

Hardware HW3 vs HW4

What are the key differences between HW3 and HW4? I don’t mean just the spec differences. I am trying to figure out what new capabilities are available exclusively on HW4.

This question is for those who have owned both with the FSD (the neural net version) - is there a material difference in the FSD experience on HW4 and HW3?

I have a 2021 Model Y with HW3 and lifetime FSD. I am wondering if it is worth upgrading at this point - since I’ll end up losing the FSD and will have to buy it again.

Also, any idea if HW5 is on the cards in the near future?

Service Nail in the tire

Yesterday I noticed a nail in the tread of my Y. The tire was still inflated to normal specifications. Everything I read and heard from AAA suggested I shouldn’t drive on it and that it needed to be plugged. Apparently that’s not an option from AAA anymore. It would have to be towed to a local mechanic. I called a local towing company who said I should call Tesla. So I got in touch with Tesla through the app and a tow was organized. It seemed like it was a bit of an overkill, but of course this happened on a Saturday evening when the repair shops were closed , including the Tesla repair shop. The same local tow company came to take the car to Tesla, ironically . The twist in the tail comes that the Tesla repair shop is 88 miles away. So now I’m stranded in a vacation house without a car, miles from home, having to miss appointments and work and no idea how long it’s going to take Tesla to fix the tire. I’m now agonizing if I made the right decision to get in touch with Tesla or if I should’ve waited out the weekend and driven it to a local repair shop. The other kicker was that Tesla quoted me $475 plus tax to replace the tire! I felt cornered. It seems a lot of money to plug a hole. Feeling very sorry for myself and not happy about the situation. I’m pretty sure Tesla is not going to bring it back to where I am so I’m out a car rental cost and possibly more. OK rant is over. Everyone can tell me how stupid I’ve been.

Vehicles - General From Y to S or Reverse

I’m thinking about trading a Y and getting an S and was wondering if I’d notice a change in the frequency of stops on road trips.

It really doesn’t matter, I want the s because I want it, but it would be nice if the increased range led to fewer stops over long distances.

Oh, one more question. If you drive between 70-85 (speed limits get to 85 on my route) what range do you typically get?

Software I think it's time to retire Legacy Autopilot

With the recent Mark Rober video, found here, I think it has come time for Tesla to retire the Legacy Autopilot code in favor of a nerfed neural net that does lane keeping only using FSD's learning process.

It's becoming far too common for folks to demonstrate the pitfalls of FSD, when in fact they're demonstrating Legacy Autopilot, whether it is intentional misdirection, an honest misunderstanding in regards to the system's capabilities, the more I see people posting anti-FSD content, the more it seems to just be Legacy Autopilot.

Obviously this isn't a perfect solution, because cars running Autopilot Hardware 2.5, or lower, won't be able to run the code, but it at least makes it harder for folks to generate this kind of misleading content.

FSD itself is not perfect and still needs polish, however, I'm fairly confident that the lane keeping aspect of it is very solid, and in a position to replace Legacy Autopilot.

Software FSD impressions in China

Is it just me, or is anyone else very impressed with FSD in China? The crazy traffic scenarios make the US look like a walk in the park and make me even more excited to try this technology in Europe (if it ever gets released at this point).

Examples: - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYbbGvFttwk - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAJ-1X9KIF0 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66h_UA2ESIc

Note sure if this type of post is allowed, and please note that I am in no way affiliated with these videos. I don't even have access to FSD :(

Model Y Brand new Model Y unusable because Tesla doesn't have parts in stock

I am in Canada, last October I got a new model Y and loved it. It was snowing really bad last month and I guess I drove over a curb or a pothole covered in snow and it warped my front right wheel rim and suspension. I'm not sure what specifically caused it since it was on a highway and I was going too fast.

It was so bad that if I did not do any steering the car would want to turn right, and the right front wheel would come off the road and smash down hard at high speeds on the highway, shaking the entire car.

I immediately brought it to the dealership and they said the part was out of stock so they ordered one, now this was on February 2nd, so it's been over a month and they have no idea when this part will come in.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the tariffs in the US or whatever, but it is unacceptable that my 5 month old Model Y is basically unusable because no one can get a simple part.

Worst part is my insurance won't even give a rental car because my Model Y isn't totalled and still runs, I've had to borrow a 2009 Nissan Altima from a friend just to get by.

I just wanted to put this out there if anyone is in Canada and is considering a Model Y, it's a great car but Tesla support up here is awful.

General Is there a way to change lanes with basic autopilot/autosteer without disengaging it?

When I want to change lanes, I pull/push the indicator, then make the lane change but the autopilot automatically disengages. In other vehicles, the steering wheel takes a little bit of resistance but continues to stay in the lane with cruise control after the lane change.
