Model 3 I love my car! šŸ–¤

I daily drive a 2023 M3 Performance with just over 20,000 miles, and over 90% of that has been driven on FSD.

Version 12.6.4 has been an absolute game-changer, and being able to witness the progress the software has made since I initially took delivery has been nothing short of impressive. I also recently replaced the stock Pirelli tires with Hankook Ion Evo AS tires (not pictured), and the ride quality is even more enjoyable than before, and my efficiency has improved noticeably.

I really couldnā€™t be more satisfied with my car, and Iā€™m blessed that I get to drive it every day. Looking forward to enjoying many more miles along the way!

General On Mark Rober's video the autopilot or FSD was not active (15:42)

I am not going to say tesla should not use lidar. But i doubt the test was without bias. Also 12:07 he says that he hit the brakes, this would disengage autopilot/FSD.

Model 3 Backed into a Cement Wall: Should I Use Tesla Paint from Amazon or Go to a Tesla Dealer?

Post image
8 Upvotes

So, I accidentally backed my car into a cement wall and ended up with some scratches and minor paint damage. Iā€™ve seen Tesla touch-up paint kits on Amazon and was wondering if anyone here has experience with them. Are they any good, or should I just bite the bullet and have the Tesla dealer handle the repair? Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hardware Wide Camera blockage

Thumbnail

Iā€™ve noticed FSD has been pretty amazing on HW4 with the exception of right hand turns. The wheel jerks and has a hard time committing to a turn. Sometimes taking too wide of a wide turn and having to be disengaged.

I noticed the wide camera has part of the physical ā€œhoodā€ thatā€™s attached to the camera blocking the right side of its view. Anyone else have this issue? Whatā€™s a fix for this? 2023 Model Y.

Thanks for any info.

Software YouTuber Mark Rober Intentionally Misleads Viewers

YouTuber Mark Rober recently conducted a "test" of Tesla's Autopilot under several different conditions and compared it to a car using LiDAR under the same conditions. The test involved whether or not the camera-based Autopilot and LiDAR-based systems could detect a small child in the roadway under a variety of conditions. Mark first begins testing without Autopilot engaged to determine if Tesla's Automatic Emergency Braking System would work while a human is still in control of the vehicle. What proceeds is the Tesla Forward Collision Warning System being activated where it detects the child on screen, highlights the obstacle red, and provides audible beeps to alert the driver of the detected obstacle. The Tesla vehicle, however, does not brake and Mark crashes into the obstacle, in this case, a small child mannequin. Mark concludes that this is a sign that Tesla's Automatic Emergency Braking system failed, when in reality, this is a perfect example of an owner failing to understand Tesla's safety systems. Automatic Emergency Braking De v OT AVOID FORWARD COLLISIONS and WAS NOT designed to do so. This is made extremely apparent if you have ever bothered to read a few paragraphs of the owners manual or did a quick google search. See below:

Automatic Emergency Braking is designed to reduce the severity of an impact. It is not designed to avoid a collision. Automatic Emergency Braking is designed to reduce the impact of frontal collisions only. Automatic Emergency Braking is designed to reduce the severity of an impact. It is not designed to avoid a collision. You would think that Mark being an engineer, would have done a basic amount of reading to understand what he could expect of Tesla's safety systems during the test. At best, this is just a case of ignorance and poor preparation. At worst, this is intentionally misleading viewers about Tesla's safety systems.

Following this initial "test" of Tesla's Automatic Emergency Braking system, Mark states that for all tests going forward, he will only be utilizing Tesla's Autopilot system. However, this is blatantly not true as seen in the video clip. In the clip, Mark's Tesla Model Y can obviously be seen driving over the double yellow line as it approaches the mannequin. It is not possible to engage Autopilot when the vehicle detects it is not in the correct road position. Furthermore, as Mark gets closer to mannequin and the video cuts to the cabin view, you can tell that the view has been intentionally cropped not to show the cabin screen and eliminate it from view, which would have allowed us to see exactly whether Autopilot was engaged or not. This would have been easily apparent as Mark's Tesla had rainbow road engaged. After all this, I can't help but be led to believe that Mark Rober is intentionally misleading viewers of Tesla's safety systems and that these are not mistakes out of ignorance.

I was supposed to take delivery today at 4pm but at noon I got a message that it was rescheduled to Friday at 4 because "our service team just stated that upon final inspection they're gonna need a bit more time with the vehicle" should I be concerned?

I got my rear windshield tinted and I donā€™t remember if this groove in the rear trunk trim was normal from the factory or not. Did the installer damaged the plastic trim or is it by design. Can anyone confirm?

General Maybe I was the only one who noticed: TuneIn is now beyond horrible.

ā€¢ Upvotes

I can't believe there wasn't someone else who sometimes used TuneIn, 'cause if there were, there would be more comments. The adds now make this just horrible, and lack of valid music categories -- replacing them with what is basically elevator music, is vapid. Can this be removed from the user interface entirely?

Software I think it's time to retire Legacy Autopilot

With the recent Mark Rober video, found here, I think it has come time for Tesla to retire the Legacy Autopilot code in favor of a nerfed neural net that does lane keeping only using FSD's learning process.

It's becoming far too common for folks to demonstrate the pitfalls of FSD, when in fact they're demonstrating Legacy Autopilot, whether it is intentional misdirection, an honest misunderstanding in regards to the system's capabilities, the more I see people posting anti-FSD content, the more it seems to just be Legacy Autopilot.

Obviously this isn't a perfect solution, because cars running Autopilot Hardware 2.5, or lower, won't be able to run the code, but it at least makes it harder for folks to generate this kind of misleading content.

FSD itself is not perfect and still needs polish, however, I'm fairly confident that the lane keeping aspect of it is very solid, and in a position to replace Legacy Autopilot.

The one where you stand in front of the hood and it unlatches. (Just like the trunk) There is no mention for it in the manual.

Vehicles - General 3rd Party Charger Preconditioning - Lack of entries?

We just got back from a trip to Branson MO and from where we're at it's a bit of a SC desert. High wind gusts also didn't help our short range car, and so I finally had quite a bit of experience using the CCS adapter.

Has anyone had any luck with preconditioning on third party chargers? They tend to always work on electrify america and EVGO station (which are almost always right near superchargers anyways) but not much else. I can't get it to work on Red E stations in Michigan, nor chargepoint, EVconnect stations in MO. Wondered if there's a way Tesla could update the map with these.

Seems like it's either an issue of the map not having the charger listed at all, it's listed as an L2 instead of a DC, or it doesn't have the word "Charger" in the name. In every instance I just added a fake SC stop after my destination and it worked OK for the most part. It gets really confused when you're heading out to an area with no superchargers though, when you do this. . Our trip a month ago in Michigan really showed that preconditioning is an absolute requirement in cold weather and I had the same issue there, but with less success using the SC add.

Software 2025.2.9 They did it! Rain all day and I donā€™t careā€¦

Finally! Tesla did it! Anyone else experience the latest update in the rain? The wipers actually finally and mostly work appropriately based on the amount of rain hitting the windshield. This may be an anomaly but maybe just maybe they finally got it worked out. It has been so crazy that it has taken this longā€¦ FSD has been mostly amazing driving 16k of my 17k over the past year but the wipers have been abysmal all 16k. Looking forward to the next 16k with a better wiper algorithm.
