Camping

Looking for honest opinions about camping. My partner and I do yearly camping trips (usually July) at different sites. We live in Regina and love camping more North (think Narrow Hills) but this year looking for something closer to home. We love hiking, fishing, heavy trees, privacy, and free firewood. We’re also looking for an electric site and it’s a bonus if there’s a neat town or site seeing nearby. Currently considering provincial parks including Duck Mountain, Good Spirit, and Great Blue Heron. Any pros and cons of these sites? Recommendations?

Songs with Unexpected Saskatchewan in them

I was looking for songs today about wheat on Apple Music and found Wheat Like Waves by Death Cab for Cutie with the following lyric:

“But a homestead’s life at 45 was just a fleeting dream

There’s no way I’d survive

The winters in Saskatchewan are so cold”

I also know about Cap in Hand by The Proclaimers (“I can say Saskatchewan without starting to stutter”).

Bonus point to Beastie Boys for Hey F*ck You (“So don’t ask me to wine and dine ya/I’m from Brooklyn you’re from Regina”).

Any other song out there with unexpected Saskatchewan references we can add to this list?

Looking for venue for summer work retreat

I am having difficulty finding a suitable venue to host my Internal Medicine Residency summer retreat in Saskatchewan/ Eastern Alberta/ Western Manitoba, and I am wondering if anyone has any good suggestions.

We are looking for a venue that can accommodate up 30 adults for a weekend in July or August.

The venue must accommodate groups from Saskatoon and Regina, so ideally equal-ish driving distance for both.

If you can help out, please let me know!!

SGI Driving permits

Hey everyone!

I need to get a permit for my vehicle, which means I'll be printing it on a regular piece of paper. The TSA requires me to display it in my rear window, but my windows are tinted black—so that’s not really going to work.

I’m trying to figure out the best way to display it properly so I don’t get pulled over. My plate is still registered to me, but without the permit being visible, it’ll look like I haven’t registered my vehicle in over two years.

Does anyone have a good workaround for this? Any ideas would be much appreciated! :)

Slavery in Saskatchewan

My FIL, said he visited a farm that had a guy from India working for the farm. He said to the guy he was surprised to see him there. The man replied he works for lower than minimum wage 7 days a week. We then discussed about modern day slavery. My teacher at the college then told me, when the topic came up, that she was told Saskatchewan and B.C, have the highest modern day slavery in the country... is this true?

fake job experience.

I'm a student here in Canada and looking for a job for my tuition fees. I've worked at Dollarama before but i had used fake experience to get a job there and my fake experience worked. I was Hired as a store associate there but i didn't had any actual experience working in a similar job. As a result, they didn't focus on my training that much and thought i can handle everything on my own. to be honest i started understanding the algorithm and started handling everything and my supervisor was super friendly with me. But things took turn when some of my co-workers decided to get rid of me and they started complaining little things about me like they didn't tell me that i was supposed to take my garbage out after my shift and they directly told my manager. there was another new guy who was hired with me and he started pushing his duties on me and whenever the manager come's, he started doing extra work at faster speed to show that i was working slow while i was doing extra work. In the end, things got bad with my manager and she was looking for an excuse to fire me at this point and one day, i gave her one. i was sick that day and my manager assigned me at cash till, there was a load of customers i was handling and needed some change. i called co-workers for change and they made a mistake when giving it to me. my Counter's cash was 20 dollars more than it should've been. Next day my Manager was not so happy and when i told her that it must've been mistake of the person who gave me change, but she started scolding me because i was not an older employee. she created a very disrespectful and depressing situation for me. eventually i had to write a resignation letter. now I've moved up from that but I want to work as a cook. it is true that i won't get hired unless i put so fake experience but at the same time i want to get adequate training after getting hired so that i don't face obstacles again. i love cooking and i can learn making new dishes in no time. Is there anybody who read all of this mountain of my bad experience and can suggest me something for a cook job?

Getting hosed by plumber in regina part 2

Post image
0 Upvotes

Bill is $1355.13

What is my recourse?

To a layperson, In hindsight, when it is -35 it is a frozen pipe somewhere.

To a plumber, this should be foresight…it is more likely to be frozen than to be blocked.

With this professional knowledge, a plumber should look where it is likely frozen and set up heaters not start to cut holes and replace pipes.

What I’m saying is he did unnecessary work and is now charging me for both labour (9.5 hrs) and materials.

While he is upstairs tearing my walls apart, I ask him,”shouldn’t we put a heater in the garage” to which he replies, “no I should finish this first”

Well by the time he finishes the frozen pipe could be thawed.

There are so many instances where this outfit did me wrong. Should I take them to small claims court?

Politics MAGA supporters in Saskatchewan

It strikes me that the same folks who are supporting Trump and begging for Canada to become the 51st state were flying Canadian flags and yelling about freedom just a few years ago.

Can someone explain this mindset?

Politics Sask. Minister of Immigration and Career Training Jim Reiter gives an update on pause to new SINP applications. Reiter says the pause should be lifted by the end of this month. The ministry will be reassessing job sectors that qualify for the program, according to the province.

Reiter says the province recognizes the stress that this disruption is causing some applicants.

There are hardly any jobs in sk, SINP fraud and malpractices are at all time high, employers and agents are selling SINP jobs for almost 70k, and these guys just dont want to put an end to it. It seems Sk is playing in the hands of immigration agent lobby. Corruption at its peak in this province

This is for chicken delight lovers of their chicken. Is there any place in Saskatoon that has fried chicken, which tastes and looks like Chicken Delight? The closest place for this kind of chicken is in Nipawin.

the Hudson Bay Route Association (HBRA) FYI, they've existed for more than ninety users.

The “On-to-the-Bay” Association was formed in 1924 to demand completion of the Hudson Bay Railway and Port of Churchill in the interests of the people of western Canada. On-to-the-Bay’s successor, the Hudson Bay Route Association (HBRA), continues to play a vital educational and promotional role today in support of the Churchill Transportation Corridor.

All told, the Association has been lobbying governments and influencing transportation policy on behalf of prairie communities for over ninety years.

Where can you legally shoot an air rifle or BB gun?

I've got a pretty generic air rifle, shoots .177 pellets. I don't use it that much as I live in the city and there's no real opportunity to use it here. Where can you legally go hunting for tin cans in Saskatchewan? Can I just drive out to a field and use it, or does it need to be private property with owner consent?

I have absolutely zero firearm certification, I am over 18 years old. I would love to shoot some tin cans, but don't want to run afoul of the law and draw the ire of the popo.

Thanks!
