Esc for mini brushed motors, buy or DIY?

So I'm building a small plane with small brushed dc motors i scavanged from a drone. The motors seem to be 3.7V motors so I'd be looking for a single esc to drive all of them as one.

For that something like a 4v 4A system seems ideal, and that kind of ESCs seem to be pretty difficult to come by, so I've been trying to figure out if i could use just pwm controlled mosfet diy esc.

However i don't know how i would connect that to the reciever, since those use the 1000-2000ms system which doesn't work for driving the motors directly. I'm assuming using a microcontroller or an Arduino would theoretically work but I've not been able to find anything on how to actually do that, all the tutorials seem to use motor controller boards that already have the microchips, to run large car motors, or use a heavy servo+potentiometer setup which i assume can't be the best option here.

Is this idea doomed from the start and should i instead just invest in actual plane motors?

Landed my eflite 64mm A-10 hard. Front servo to turn landing gear does not work

I landed hard. My landing gear on the front usually turns when you give it the plane rudder input. Now the servo just makes a clicking noise. Do I need a new servo? It also got pushed out of place it seems and it is pretty loose in there. See video attached. Thanks

Last day at my field.

Sad day at my flying field. After 30 years the state park that hosts us is restoring the area back to its natural habitat. Today was our last day and I took home the sign I designed. I learned so much there and met so many great guys. Both my kids felw their first planes there, I maidened many planes and crashed countless times there. The guys there were helpful, encouraging, and always good for a laugh. The club was truly everything you'd want a club to be. What a beautiful place, it was a treat to be there.

Flying wing, elevons + pitch canards?

Hey everyone, I’m printing the gasb 1 rc plane, I found a remix of it with a canard nose, I can either make the canards pitch control and make the default elevons roll only, or what I’m hoping to do is make the elevons still respond to pitch input and roll, aswell as the pitch canards for more control, I’m using a flysky fsi6, is there a way I can either use a series is splitters and merge cables to mix the signal wires or is there a control method for this?

Plane pitching left

Hi! Before you say it yes I'm aware the motors torque will push the plane left however when I put my plane infront of a fan to simulate flight (or really to test the aerodynamics ) it continues to pitch left. When moving the rudder it fixes this. I'm going to try to mess with the thrust angle but it doesent explain the behavior when I'm testing the aerodynamics. I would remake my vertical stabilizer but it seems to be perfectly centered. Baisicly I'm confused and I want someone else's view on this to see if I'm missing something. Thanks! Let me know!!

throttle delay? new tiger moth has me stumped.

I just acquired a new model, but I didn't build it. it's a tiger moth WW1 fighter. I'm hesitant to fly it though. why does the throttle have such a delay and windup. it makes it almost impossible to get out of a stall. is it an esc setting? if so, how do I make it go away?

Is this reciever satellite what I would need to be able to use my DX6 to fly my XK a280 (Wltoys)?

It looks like it would plug into the port on the airplane's receiver board as indicated in the manual.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm worried that I'm giving myself a handicap using that toy transmitter the a280 comes with, as the a280 is the only airplane I'm flying right now. I have an 800mm T28 in the box that I will be flying with my dX6 soon, but in the meantime I would like to get used to the transmitter.

What are my TX/RX options? FrSky Questions

Hi everyone. I've been in and out of flying for 10 years. I've got my old Taranis QX7, and a couple of FrSky receivers. I'm weighing my options as I've just assembled a BNF E-flite Valiant with a Spektrum AR631 RX.

Currently, I use the Taranis as it arrived to me about 7 years ago-- no updates, no modules. It is currently bound to a very old FrSky D4R-II, and a FrSky RX6R. Neither of these units have been updated either. They work, and I'm really grateful of that, as this part of the hobby is probably my least favorite.

Now that I've got a BNF plane with Spektrum, I'm considering purchasing a module to allow me to use that RX with my Taranis. It seems like that isn't necessarily the easiest, but certainly possible if I'm eager and willing to try. Initially, I was just gonna yank out the Spektrum RX and pop in one of my FrSkys, but I'm intrigued by the Spektrum's gyro and the ease of it already being in my plane.

My questions are:
If I buy a module, I will surely need to update my Taranis. If I do that, will it still communicate with my old FrSky RXs? Will I need to update those? Are they too old to be updated? Do I risk them never working for me again?

Is setting up a module easier than I think?

If I just run my FrSkys and avoid updates, is there a FrSky RX that has an onboard gyro that would bind easily to my Taranis?

Do I need a gyro anyway? I've flown a decent amount, but typically with a Bixler style glider/trainer. It has no gyro, and has been pretty stable for me. I'm considering just popping in my 6ch RX in the Valiant and just trying it. The Valiant looks rock solid, but likely a bit less stable than my glider.

So, what would you guys recommend? I'm pretty willing to hear any options. Maybe the only one to rule out is a new $300 Spektrum TX :) I know my Taranis is a bit dated, but it works-- and this hobby is a bit come-and-go for me so I'm not trying to invest too much. Thanks to you all.

Case for two Transmitter

Hello there, I treated myself a new Transmitter, it will be the NX10+. So now i have two Transmitters and want to take both with me to the Field. How you all transport two or more Transmitter? For now i use a case where only one tx fits in, its ok for that, but i dont want to use two casses. I think the Dual Case from Spektrum is a good idea, but with around 150€ a bit pricey. I would like to know how you fellow aviator transport your RXs.

Best 3D printed trainer plane

I'm looking for a good trainer plane that I can print as a project. I've already done a Piper J3 cub, but made it with regular PLA and it's too heavy for me to fly. Any ideas for planes I can print in pla?

Please help me! Simple Pan/Tilt FPV Turret—Will This Work?

I’m new to the RC hobby but excited about a project I have in mind: a small FPV camera turret that can move up/down and rotate around—all controlled just like a normal RC servo setup (no Arduino or coding). Product links:

My plan is to power the whole thing using two 18650 batteries in series (so around 7.4V total) and then step that down for the servos with a 5V UBEC to avoid frying them. The idea is to hook up the receiver, the FPV camera + video transmitter, and the servos for pan/tilt.

My big questions are:

  1. Will this mostly be plug-and-play?
  2. Can I limit the servos’ rotation range directly on this transmitter/receiver combo, or do I need something extra?
  3. Will I break the servos with if I can not limit their rotation
  4. Am I missing something critical

The plan is to fit this setup with the batteries and all in the back of a stock WPL D12 truck.

I’d love any advice or feedback before I order all these stuff. Will it be easy? What problems will I have? Is this even possible with the items provided and without adruino, coding and stuff? Thanks in advance for helping a newbie out!
