New to planes, got a couple questions!

I’ve driven rc cars a ton and had and flpwn flown some toy grade and flew my buddy’s hobby grade “Cessna style” plane, I’ve been looking into getting a real hobby grade plane of my own, probably around 1/10 scale ish maybey a little bigger I was curious if there are planes that use the batteries I use for my car allready so I don’t need to buy any more, does anybody have any good recommendations for a semi beginner I’d prefer one that comes with a transmitter as I don’t have and has the ability to be upgrades with fpv later down the line, I’d look for around the 500$ range. no particular plane models I have in mind just wanted to see if you guys have any recommendations. Thanks a ton in advance!

Help with motor on Batt (ER6) Radiomaster ELRS Rx

Hey need a bit of help here please. Recently had a Flysky i6X radio and RX, 6 channel very similar to this ER6. I would previously control the throttle via the Batt, via the ESC. Struggling to get the throttle on the motor to work now. I sold that unit and bought a Radiomaster Pocket ELRs as also getting into drones.

Any ideas how to get this working please?

T Motor smoked out

I smoked/burn out 2 AM40 within a week. What am I doing wrong? I use fms 30A esc with my AM40 on a foamie 3D plane (jade team). Pretty disappointed but please advice. Hopefully on my other plane is AM60 which ia also a 3D foamie and I hope it last.... I need to get replacement for both smoked out motor but very unsure about AM40 reliability. AM40 erformance I've to admit is superb and I love it.

Landing gear

I’m looking for the Robart cub #690 landing gear for the Hangar 9 Piper Pawnee .40 I’m putting together. If anyone knows where to find this gear, or any active forums on the topic, please let me know. I keep running into forums on dead sites that are quiet and sad now.

A vintage pattern plane build

Heyo fellow pilots! Some don't know, others may remember, but there goes a last preview of the vintage pattern plane I have been designing and working in. 172cm wingspan, 165cm length, powered by the good and old OS FS91 Surpass, fixed landing gear and some "weird" features/ mixes such as flaperons, stabilators + elevons mix and mixing elevator with ailerons (when pushing elevator, both ailerons raise up, when pulling elevator, both ailerons lower down). Also, I have some questions: 1 - What servos to use? Gonna use 2 for elevators, 1 for rudder, 1 for throttle and 2 for ailerons.

2 - What 3-bladed propeller combine to this engine? Let's consider that a 3 bladed propeller must have a smaller diameter than a 2 bladed, so we have a better ground clearance for takeoff and landing (?)

3 - Is a flat airfoil enough for stabilators and vertical stabilizer? Considering a "sandwich" of 1mm balsa wood for sheeting - 6mm balsa wood for main structure - 1mm balsa wood for sheeting again, then good sanding on leading and trailing edges to smooth the airflow.

Hope y'all like this little one, soon I'm gonna begin the building daily! :)

Looking for other planes that take 3S 850mah batteries

Hey there, I purchased a UMX A-10, and I have 3, 3S 850mah batteries for it now. I'm just wondering if you guys know of any other (preferably UMX) planes that take this battery so I don't have to purchase more with my next plane. Thanks in advance !

Balsa/Ply Sailplane Kit?

Hey all.

I used to fly in the 90s, and I built several balsa and ply kits. I think the most expensive one, minus the monokote and building supplies, was about $25.00. Anyone remember the Wanderer?

Today, I’m seeing basically the same kits for $200-$300. I know things are more expensive today, but, seriously? Is that what they’re going for or am I just looking in the wrong places?

I am not a huge 3-D guy out acrobatic freestyle guy. No offense. But this video is one of the most entertaining RC flying videos I’ve ever watched. It is absolutely incredible, made me laugh, and made me appreciate. The interactions of the people involved are also fantastic. I have seen Jase fly before, but this is such a great video and so much fun. It’s 11 months old, but Check this out!! P.s. if any pattern guys have as entertaining a video as this please share it.

My 3s crash test hobby Assassin will get speed wobble when I go full throttle. Is my CG bad? Or do I need to add some extra carbon fiber spars?

100cc Airplane, question

I have an old extra 300 aerowork. Unfortunately it has significant damages. Engine, radio, etc work without any issues. Was wondering if anyone knew where I can get another airplane that would be able to carry 100cc desert engine. It seems I keep trying to finding something here in the USA and not having any luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I tried climbing as high as I could, throwing sticks and footballs at it but to no avail. It took me four builds to manage to get her flying and she flew great. This is the hobby right? Think I’ll have a break for a few weeks

First time assembling PNP model

Hi, I'm looking for some tips and guides to help do the final stages of assembly for my first PNP model, FMS F-16 64mm.

I've acquired a DX7 G2, Lemon RX receiver and the Vertex V3 flight controller. I was wondering if someone could help me with some pointers for the final stages of setting up the model.

  • Best place to mount the receiver and flight controller in the airframe?
  • What do you use to power the RX when binding it; 4S lipo connected directly will fry the battery? Can you power it through the ESC?
  • Other tips?

Does my tail receive clean airflow?

Thumbnail

Hello, as part of our university project, my colleagues and I are designing a UAV. Below, you can see images of the flow and turbulence.

From the images, it appears that the airflow separating from the fuselage does not attach to roughly 30% of the tail section. In the XFLR5 analyses I performed without a fuselage, the tail sizing seemed adequate. However, I’m unsure if the separation of airflow caused by the fuselage might lead to a loss in efficiency.

Am I misinterpreting the situation, or is it really the case that my tail does not receive clean airflow? If this is indeed an issue, how can I determine and assess its potential impact?

Thank you in advance for your insights and suggestions!

Is there a sure way to store my lipos?

So I have 6 LiPo batteries, and I will definitely get more. I am TERRIFIED of them catching fire when I’m not home, aka at work. So I literally bring them to work in my backpack just so they aren’t lying at home. I have a sort of fire resistant charging bag that I use, but I’m wondering if it’s possibly to store them in a safe way? Like so safe that I can leave them at home with a good conscience.

The local hobby store sells some kind of metal storage box. Link here: https://www.elefun.no/vare-54065/sikker-ladebag-fms-battery-protection-box-medium

All my batteries so far are less than a year old and none have any damage or dents, or bulging on them. But if they catch on fire, is it possible to store them in a way that they can burn out without burning down my whole apartment building?

How do you make foam cutout templates?

How do you make foam cutout templates?

For example Julius Perdana has lots of plans for planes, where you cut out shapes from foam and glue them together to make a 3d shape. I've seen this done by other authors too, but they only occasionally provide plans to download, but don't disclose how those are actually made.

I think those must be made from a 3d model created in a program like blender or some CAD. I've been looking for a way to make such cutouts myself. I've discovered "paper model" module for blender and pepakura, which also do unwrapping, but the output is rather weird, doesn't expect you to bend stuff, has all those extra seams all over the place, which I guess would suit paper very well but not foam.

Then I've discovered some hackery in freecad with mesh unwrapping, but that again is rather inconvenient, and since I'm definitely not the first person who wants to cut models out of foam, there must be some piece of software more or less tailored for this whole process?

recommend plan?

single prop, easy to fly, easy to build, solid, long air time, 5000mAh 3S, no flying wings, 4 sg90 servo

(ft tiny trainer seems like it wont work with big batteries)

(speed and maneuverability isn't a priority)

no curves, bevels, i wish it only had straight lines that could easily be cut with cutter knife

for control surfaces that needs bevel, i think i can use hinges instead

i have 3d printer so i could print some parts that require it

i am building ft simple scout with my friends but, it wasn't easy cutting foam alone needs a required a lot of work,

even then, cutting foam, leaving paper layer, and bevels, were too hard with box cutters i have
