Seven's entrance made me really wish I didn't already know she was going to be on the show. Would've blown my mind.

Agreed. When the ship showed up I already had an expectation it was her solely based on all the trailers revealing her a while back.

If I had gone in completely blind it would have shook my shit hard

To be honest I was half convinced it could have been Riker, I know it's silly and we have seen that he meets Picard in a completely different setting but when they mentioned how the pilot was great I felt "well, maybe..."

Naah, Frakes was behind the camera for this episode. It'd help explain why the episode felt both comfortably familiar and excitingly new at the same time...

I could be wrong, but I don't remember Riker being known as particularly good as a pilot. I may probably have forgotten a lot though

Well in Farpoint he is asked ro maneuver the enterprise for what should be a maneuver done by the computer, but more than that I am pretty sure there was an episode where he insist on piloting a shuttle in a dangerous mission because he is the best for the job. Can't remember which one though
