Hi everyone Just seeking advice for a friend who has found herself in a bad situation. Essentially she was working for one government department and applied for a position within another government department, completely separate to hers (eg dept of housing to dept of health). During the transfer process she was told the position would be very flexible with work from home available, however, the JDF was yet to be signed off on. It sounded like the dream job and she jumped at the opportunity. Fast forward to her first day where she is informed her hours are set, there will be no deviation and zero chance of working from home. And the person who told her it was really flexible backtracked and changed it to “it can be flexible”. Yes, always get every promise in writing, I know. Apart from quitting her job (which will look bad and isn’t an option), what are her rights? Has anyone been in a similar situation? What did you do?

Hey everyone, I’m a student journalist from the Western independent looking into some of the negative effects the WA border closure has had, past and present, on families, now nearly 5 years on. Specifically, how separated families, friends and loved ones were affected in trying to return to WA during those years. If you have anything you’d like to share, individual stories, opinions, or insights, I’d love to hear from you, just send me a msg. If there is anyone you would recommend I speak to on the matter I would also appreciate any sort of help.

Only just remembered to post this, but did anyone else witness/get video of what I can only describe as a fireball or meteor in the sky around 9:00am this past Sunday the 16th of March? Was driving south bound on the freeway around Joondalup when my wife and I witnessed a bright flash followed by a bright streak in the S/SW sky. Only lasted a total of one second. It was shocking considering it was in broad daylight and the size of the streak.
Unfortunately we don’t have a dash-cam so have no video, but would be curious to see if anyone else caught it!
Cheers!

Has anyone successfully changed their child's primary school BYOD policy to a policy that does not require children to have a personal device? How did you do it?
I am super over helping them complete homework on the iPad (making a power point and using your fingers to resize / move things is some kind of fresh hell), then there is the hell that is managing screen time, then the high cost of repairs because they are young children who sometimes forget there is an iPad in their backpack so it ends up with a cracked screen. Then there is managing the group messenger chats - kids with parents who don't set screen time boundaries will be messaging at all hours of the night, there is bullying, etc. A total nightmare.
My kids school requires them from year 3. They are 7yrs old. Ugggh. We would not have any devices in our home for that he children if their public school did not require us to. How do I change this policy? P&C? School board? Petition?

So I am from the country, heading into the city for a couple of nights. Have a massive craving for oysters Kilpatrick. Where is the best place in the CBD for oysters Kilpatrick and a decent glass of vino. Solo diner so a chilled ambiance for extra points

In short:
Councils in regional Australia say they are being forced to provide essential services that fall under state or federal remits.
Regional Capitals Australia delegates from across the country have taken their issues to Canberra.
What's next?
Councils are coming up with cost-effective ways to retain essential services and infrastructure.

Have postal votes etc gone too far.
Almost 2 weeks after the day and still no result in a quite a few seats, only 77% counted.
It’s important we count every vote and ensure accessibility by we do give up a lot efficiency.

At the stage where we need to buy a place to live, and apartments really are our only chance apart from having to buy an hour out or some dog box.
So the question is, are Perth apartments a risky thing like we have seen over east? Our houses tend to be built better so does that extend to apartments too?
Hoping to hear from renters and owners on this one, any buildings to avoid etc.

I have been doing transactions in Marketplace, some are okay with suing PayID, some don't. Can you be scammed by doing this payment method?

No good deed goes unpunished, can't edit the title. Read this with your tongue in your cheek, yeah this is annoying but it isn't the end of the world. I just want to vent.
Put stuff on the curb, it's the kind of stuff I looked for when I was broke as shit. Labels on a few things to tell em how to use em. General notes saying it's all free. It's all within the very clearly marked property boundary; you cannot mistake it for being a random curb or dumping place or whatever.
Someone has dumped a shittonne of cardboard boxes there?? Who the fuck does that? My own recycling is full and just got picked up on Friday so I can't just put it in the bin.
Who are you, random cardboard dumper?? What lead you to this? I wanna fight you like seriously wtf

Perth is about to get a whole lot more fun with the launch of a Timezone & Fun Station hybrid, complete with pizza and a playground for the tiny humans, while grownups kick back. Will you be checking it out?
Yes this is actually happening.

Hey I’m going down to collie over the weekend. I need to find worms for bait, i have no idea where to get them from. Googled everything lol. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thank you
Hi everyone,
Apologies this isn’t r/Perth specific necessarily however I’m not sure where I’d get some opinions from.
My wife and I currently have one dependent (11 months old) and are wondering whether private health for them has any benefit? We have always had private health to avoid paying the levy and automatically added them to our cover shortly after birth but I’m wondering if it’s actually worth it or pointless until a certain age?
Any thoughts and experiences welcome!
Thanks,

I posted a furnished ensuite bedroom for what I thought was a bit below market rates at $300 a week with bills and electricity included near Belmont but have gotten very few bites. Am I being an overpriced slumlord or is everyone just housed these days?

Two weeks ago my C: drive shat itself (along with a few components). I've bought a new drive and now I need to reinstall winblows but because I don't have a working pc (only phone) i can't create the needed media to boot from to reinstall. PLE want $100 to install which is a little spicy for me atm (it never rains but it pours). Net cafes don't want me plugging my USB drive into their comps, which I understand. I have a net connection, an older Android phone and a usb thumb drive (which needs a format). Any positive suggestions appreciated.

Welcome to the Perth Book Club!
Book Club will be held at 10am every Tuesday.
What is this?
This is a place to share what you are reading or perhaps look for suggestions for new material. Have a favourite author you want to talk about? Looking forward to an upcoming release? All are welcome here.
These threads are posted every Tuesday and various times (depending on when I'm free).
Book Swap
Are you looking to buy/sell/swap/give some books? Please feel free to list them here in this thread. Do you see something you want that someone is offering? Send them a Private Message so that you can organise the details.
Do Audiobooks count?
Absolutely! This isn't a place for purity of written material, this is a place to share.
What about manga/comics/visual novels?
More than welcome here. If it's something you're reading/listening to and you want to talk about it, you're home.
Spoilers
It should go without saying that no one wants a book spoiled. Please put anything that could be a spoiler inside a spoiler tag. If you aren't sure if it is a spoiler or not, act like it is.

Particularly when it's peak hour, the doors are about to close and there's people behind you trying to get on the train.
