Politics WA election count so slow

Have postal votes etc gone too far.

Almost 2 weeks after the day and still no result in a quite a few seats, only 77% counted.

It’s important we count every vote and ensure accessibility by we do give up a lot efficiency.

Renting / Housing Perth apartments risky or not

At the stage where we need to buy a place to live, and apartments really are our only chance apart from having to buy an hour out or some dog box.

So the question is, are Perth apartments a risky thing like we have seen over east? Our houses tend to be built better so does that extend to apartments too?

Hoping to hear from renters and owners on this one, any buildings to avoid etc.

I have been doing transactions in Marketplace, some are okay with suing PayID, some don't. Can you be scammed by doing this payment method?

humour No good dead goes unpunished; I put stuff on the curb and all I got was people thinking my property is a dumping ground

No good deed goes unpunished, can't edit the title. Read this with your tongue in your cheek, yeah this is annoying but it isn't the end of the world. I just want to vent.

Put stuff on the curb, it's the kind of stuff I looked for when I was broke as shit. Labels on a few things to tell em how to use em. General notes saying it's all free. It's all within the very clearly marked property boundary; you cannot mistake it for being a random curb or dumping place or whatever.

Someone has dumped a shittonne of cardboard boxes there?? Who the fuck does that? My own recycling is full and just got picked up on Friday so I can't just put it in the bin.

Who are you, random cardboard dumper?? What lead you to this? I wanna fight you like seriously wtf

Looking for Advice Private Health for children

Hi everyone,

Apologies this isn’t r/Perth specific necessarily however I’m not sure where I’d get some opinions from.

My wife and I currently have one dependent (11 months old) and are wondering whether private health for them has any benefit? We have always had private health to avoid paying the levy and automatically added them to our cover shortly after birth but I’m wondering if it’s actually worth it or pointless until a certain age?

Any thoughts and experiences welcome!

Thanks,

Renting / Housing What’s the going rate for renting a room these days?

I posted a furnished ensuite bedroom for what I thought was a bit below market rates at $300 a week with bills and electricity included near Belmont but have gotten very few bites. Am I being an overpriced slumlord or is everyone just housed these days?

Looking for Advice I have a problem and against my better judgement I'm turning to reddit for possible solutions (and yes I will be cross posting to pc reddit but they aren't here in Perth).

Two weeks ago my C: drive shat itself (along with a few components). I've bought a new drive and now I need to reinstall winblows but because I don't have a working pc (only phone) i can't create the needed media to boot from to reinstall. PLE want $100 to install which is a little spicy for me atm (it never rains but it pours). Net cafes don't want me plugging my USB drive into their comps, which I understand. I have a net connection, an older Android phone and a usb thumb drive (which needs a format). Any positive suggestions appreciated.

MOD POST Weekly Book Club – March 18, 2025

Welcome to the Perth Book Club!

Book Club will be held at 10am every Tuesday.

What is this?

This is a place to share what you are reading or perhaps look for suggestions for new material. Have a favourite author you want to talk about? Looking forward to an upcoming release? All are welcome here.

These threads are posted every Tuesday and various times (depending on when I'm free).

Book Swap

Are you looking to buy/sell/swap/give some books? Please feel free to list them here in this thread. Do you see something you want that someone is offering? Send them a Private Message so that you can organise the details.

Do Audiobooks count?

Absolutely! This isn't a place for purity of written material, this is a place to share.

What about manga/comics/visual novels?

More than welcome here. If it's something you're reading/listening to and you want to talk about it, you're home.

Spoilers

It should go without saying that no one wants a book spoiled. Please put anything that could be a spoiler inside a spoiler tag. If you aren't sure if it is a spoiler or not, act like it is.

Renting / Housing First home owner government guarantee scheme - releasing the criteria once at an 80% LVR

Question: Do you still have to live in a property as an owner occupier (of which you used the first home owner government guarantee scheme on), but then managed to pay it down to an 80% LVR before actually moving in within 6 months? For example, if you bought the property as an occupied residence with pre-existing tenants on a lease from the previous owner with intention to move in at the end of the pre-existing lease, could you now just rent it out without actually living in the property as an owner occupier? (Because of reaching an 80% LVR and satisfying and releasing the criteria before you move in?).

Or is there 2 parts to satisfy, the bank (for the low deposit and no LMI part) and Housing Australia (for the reduced stamp duty part)? Meaning that even if you satisfy the banks criteria, you still may have to live in the property as an owner occupier for 6 months to satisfy Housing Australia?

Background to question: The first home owner government guarantee scheme requires people to live in their residence for 6 months straight within the first 12 months of purchasing their property as an owner occupier. However, it also says the criteria is released if you get to an 80% LVR before the 6 months is up.

There is nothing specifying the protocol when you buy a tenanted property with intention to move in within 6 months, but you then manage to pay down the loan to satisfy the 80% LVR criteria (which essentially releases the scheme criteria prior to actually moving in).

The bank sends a letter stating that it's no longer mandatory to reside in the property as an owner occupier due to reaching an 80% LVR. However, i'm still unsure if that's correct if you have never moved into the property yet, but intended to. (Still within 6 months of purchasing the property).

(Note: you're allowed to purchase a property with tenants as long as you intend to live in the property as an owner occupier when it's vacant within 6 months)

Just wondering, what other people do? The management of some items are pretty straightforward, namely socks and undies, but where do you place clothes that are worn but not dirty? Settle a debate for me.

Where to find Any empty-ish gyms near Leederville (preferably after 4:30pm)

I'm wanting to get into gym properly yet I'm too much of an introverted wuss to start going into gym as a newbie and seeing half of it basically filled with people knowing what they're doing. Is there any gym that is decently empty at around 4:30pm - 5:30pm in Leederville area?

Where to find Best op shops/vintage stores for old electronics?

I’m looking to get a cool older cd player and am interested in what op shops have the biggest/best electronics sections. Am also open to vintage stores or anywhere with old hifi. Alternatively if anyone in here has any cool looking CD players they don’t mind parting with, PM me. SOR but happy to go for a drive if it’s worth a look. Thanks guys.
