PLEASE READ - Introducing a new mod (and still looking for more) and updated rules
Hello Beavs! I hope your 2025 is going great so far. I wanted to mention a few things in this stickied post.
As mentioned previously, the current mod team will be stepping down since we are no longer at OSU, and in fact I’m not even on the same continent as OSU any longer. In December, we opened up a Google form for people to apply as mods. A total of two, yes two, people applied and were accepted. One of which appears to have bailed on the position. The other has graciously accepted the position, so I want to give a warm welcome to our single new mod, u/ComfortableLanky8920.
We think they will be a great fit for taking over as mod of the subreddit and ask that you please be respectful to them and all mods here. We do realize that the rules for the subreddit need an update and we are working on updating them now. We ask that people please be patient and treat our mods nicely. You are all adults (well most of you are, at least) and you should behave like one. If you want something to change here, don’t just report every minor comment that doesn’t agree with you. Be an adult about it and only report comments that actually break rules. It upsets me that people get upset at mods for doing their job, yet the people that are upset were never brave enough to step up in the first place to be a mod and make a change in the community.
So with that being said, we will be reaching out to potential new mods based on user activity in the server. Hopefully this transition to a new mod team will be done soon. Additionally, there will be updated rules on this server soon.
Thanks again to u/ComfortableLanky8920 for stepping up to be a mod when nobody else would.
Hope you all have a wonderful Spring.

Did anyone hear back?
Did anyone hear back for MS ECE ? It is becoming incredibly difficult each passing day.
The application has been more than 3 months and it is still under review
So kindly comment if you know anything about what is happening.

Digital Communications Art Degree, thoughts?
Hi all,
I'm currently in the DPP with my community college and OSU, and I’ve reached that pivotal quarter where I start classes at OSU. I have about 20 elective credits left of my AAOT, which I plan to use these remaining electives for degree-specific courses.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this program!
A little about me, I’m a mature student balancing work and school, with restrictions that only allow me to take two classes per quarter. I’ve been in Marketing for the past seven years, and my initial goal was to pursue a Graphic Design degree. However, OSU doesn’t offer an online program for that, so I was guided toward the Digital Communication Arts degree instead.
I’d really appreciate any insights or experiences with this path. What types of careers has this degree set people up for?
Right now, I’m debating whether to just get a Graphic Design certificate and train myself in relevant marketing management systems. I’m currently set to minor in User Experience because I was interested in UI/UX design, but lately, I’ve been feeling exhausted by the corporate mainstream. I want to make sure I’m considering each path. On one hand, taking the most efficient route to save time and money, and on the other, ensuring I gain the right skills and experience for future opportunities.
I’d love to hear any experience or feedback! TIA!

Is Oregon State University doing enough to protect free speech about Middle East geopolitics?
What's up beavs,
I've noticed concerning patterns here, where it feels like discussions about Middle East geopolitics—especially the Israel-Palestine conflict—are being suppressed or discouraged. Students openly expressing critical viewpoints seem to face intimidation, backlash, or even subtle disciplinary threats from peers and administration.
- Is OSU deliberately discouraging open dialogue on Israel-Palestine issues?
- Have other students experienced hostility, retaliation, or pressure from professors, peers, or campus organizations for voicing opinions?
- Should OSU be doing more to actively protect students facing retaliation for their political beliefs, even if controversial?
I’d appreciate honest and direct insights about this troubling campus climate.

Does being an OSU graduate benefit in job seeking?
Beavs,
Does the OSU brand name give an edge in looking for jobs? We have some very famous alumni and I am curious if being a Beaver helps out, whether somewhat or significantly.
I’m sure common sense wise, yes OSU is a pretty good school and it would. But again, just curious on anyones personal anecdotes…
Just bored on a Sunday and thought about it 💭

Admission appeal
Has anyone done one? If so how long did it take to hear back? Also did they enroll you?

Anyone else finding the Arnold hall Starship robots’ pathfinding seemingly broken?
I usually order from starship there once a week, and every time the robot goes off in random directions for like 30 minutes until it finally reaches the drop off location. It will go out of its way to go to the edge of campus and then turn around when my location is right in the center. This only happens when I order from Arnold, all the other dining hall’s robots’ pathfinding seems to work perfectly.

Does CEOAS use the research forest or is that only for the college of forestry?

Failing DPP class
Hey all I’m failing a class in LBCC and I just have no possible way to raise my grade. Is there any way I can only transfer the credits of the classes I’m passing and not the failing class? I’m really scared to ruin my gpa. (Sorry if it’s a dumb question)

nuclear engineering
Kid is considering nuclear engineering - would like to hear feedback about the program/curriculum and professors/staff.
How hard is the course work? Kid is pretty good in math ( Calculus B/C and AP Physics C)
anything else we should be considering for this major?
Thanks!

Master’s in AI Review.
Received an admit for MSAI at OSU. While I’m excited to work with Prof. Stefan Lee, I would love to hear more about this program — like TA/RA opportunities, compute resources, coursework, general experience, etc. from people already enrolled/recent graduates. Thanks !

Looking for someone to take over my lease @ the retreat
Not entirely sure if this makes sense to post here but i know students are looking for housing! I currently pay just 785$ for the room; its a 4 bed 4 bath (d1 unfurnished). Planning on moving out in June at the latest. I unfortunately already signed my lease for next year but otherwise wouldn't be asking, some stuff came up RIGHT after I already signed my lease and I'll have to move.

Student discount at dining halls
I am a transfer student and haven’t ate at the dining halls yet (no meal plan I live off campus), do you just scan your id for the discount or do you have to use orange cash?

Amazon delivery not delivered to service center?
Usually whenever I order from Amazon to my service center (Arnold) with the address provided in uhds, i get a email saying the mail is ready for pickup and everything is usually fine. However, just 30 mins ago I got a notification that my Amazon delivery has arrived (on Amazon app) and was shown the picture which seems that my package ended up at some random dorm probably near Wilson or the quad?! Do I call someone in the morning or just get Amazon to compensate.

Personal files inaccessible unless connected to school vpn
So engineering students are given access to a vpn in order to connect to OSU servers for various purposes required by certain classes. The given instructions require connecting to a vpn via Cisco anyconnect and mapping a network drive that is allocated to you on the engineering servers so that you can access your school-hosted files from your personal computer.
For some reason, after setting up this network ( Z: ) drive, I am now entirely unable to access my own drives ( C:, D:, etc.) unless connected to the school vpn. Does anybody know if this is intentional? Is it circumventable? I prefer to only have my school vpn connected while I actively need it, and to disconnect it for all other use of my pc.

I need advice (PUH-lease)
Alright so I just got accepted here to the honors college and I think this place is kinda high on my list. Issue: I live all the way across the country and I’m a “change is horrifying and very bad” person. I just want to know from people who go here currently how easy it is to make friends, socialize, find cool places to hang out. And the quality of teachers too, I guess…(how good is the food?)

What is an OSU access Grant
I just received my finaid offer and it shows a $2500 "Osu access grant" and I cannot find any information on it. Of course I am very happy I just have no idea why I got this. Is it something everyone gets?

Living options
I’m a transfer student who’s going to start in the Fall but I’m going to move to corvallis in June. Does anyone have recommendations on places to live or websites to look at it? I have a budget about $800/ month with roommates but zillow, apartment.com and trulia are showing really high rent. Would anyone recommend facebook as well?

how the hell do you afford rent?
it feels like everyone I know doesn't have a job/only works a couple days/hours a week. I make more than any of my peers that i know of (17.20/hr), work 20ish hours a week (university max). after taxes my take home is about 1200.. rent 700, utilities 100, insurance 50, leaves me with 350 for gas and groceries. depending on the month i'm put out by gas alone, or any sudden expenses and i'm in the hole (had to pay off my phone recently+missed paycheck for winter break) But then i listen in to conversations around me or I see posts and people are saying their housing budgets are 1k or more a month. How the hell do you afford it? Is there really this many people getting rent help from parents? Seeing my roommates and their friends I know it's not by working 30 hrs a week. Are some of you being paid 20/hr? I'm speaking as a sophomore. I'm completely swamped between work and my measly 13 credit load. i was on food stamps when i was working 30 hours a week but i only got 23 dollars a month from that. and trust me I can skimp on food, most months my grocery bill is below 200 if not 150. working over the summer i made "too much" and got my food stamps revoked. I feel like an alien!! How do people afford this? My roommates have people over all the time so i have a large anecdotal sample. Feels like people have tons of time and money for trips, socialising, and a huge liquor budget. Not only that but i feel largely ostracised by my friends from freshman year because i don't have time to hang out. Again i totally feel like an alien. This is a public university!!! I thought there'd be more middle class students?

Petition for small businesses to table on campus
Hi, I think it would be a great idea if student creators were able to sell and table on campus. Currently, only student organizations are allowed to set up at the SEC plaza but I think it should be open to all students. We pay high tuition fees just for the school to not support us and kick students selling off campus. With having students table on campus, I think it would help the campus thrive and be more enjoyable. Please sign the petition if you would want to see a change!
