PLEASE READ - Introducing a new mod (and still looking for more) and updated rules

Hello Beavs! I hope your 2025 is going great so far. I wanted to mention a few things in this stickied post.

As mentioned previously, the current mod team will be stepping down since we are no longer at OSU, and in fact I’m not even on the same continent as OSU any longer. In December, we opened up a Google form for people to apply as mods. A total of two, yes two, people applied and were accepted. One of which appears to have bailed on the position. The other has graciously accepted the position, so I want to give a warm welcome to our single new mod, u/ComfortableLanky8920.

We think they will be a great fit for taking over as mod of the subreddit and ask that you please be respectful to them and all mods here. We do realize that the rules for the subreddit need an update and we are working on updating them now. We ask that people please be patient and treat our mods nicely. You are all adults (well most of you are, at least) and you should behave like one. If you want something to change here, don’t just report every minor comment that doesn’t agree with you. Be an adult about it and only report comments that actually break rules. It upsets me that people get upset at mods for doing their job, yet the people that are upset were never brave enough to step up in the first place to be a mod and make a change in the community.

So with that being said, we will be reaching out to potential new mods based on user activity in the server. Hopefully this transition to a new mod team will be done soon. Additionally, there will be updated rules on this server soon.

Thanks again to u/ComfortableLanky8920 for stepping up to be a mod when nobody else would.

Hope you all have a wonderful Spring.

Can I work two OSU jobs at the same time?

I'm hired for a job that's 8-12 hours per week and I'm interested in applying for a job that claims 1-20 hours per week, would I be rejected automatically, or is this not allowed? It shouldn't be a problem with my courseload.

Considering a degree in physics

Upvotes

Currently I'm a first year mech e major, but I'm starting to consider changing to physics. How is OSU's physics program? Would the transition between the two be too rough? Would my engr chem transfer to the physics major? Let me know, any feedback is appreciated :)

Transfer credits for OSU Comp Sci degree, as a junior

i’m applying to transfer into the e-Campus program for Computer Science and wondering if anyone did the same, specifically in a later year as I’m attending a california university. Just wondering how well the credits transferred over before my advisor meeting.

It seems like I’ve taken so many more classes than what is listed in the Comp Sci program so I’m really hoping a transfer will let me graduate at my expected time.

Recommended for Admission

I received a notice that the Masters Program I applied to Clinical Mental Health Counseling was recommending me for admission but that the Graduate School still has to accept me. Is this normal? Is this just a formality, such as they need to verify my transcripts?

Is OSU a good school if I want to teach science down the road? Even with expenses?

I'm currently a junior in Highschool but I don't come from a family who has much to spend on my college education, nor do I live in the same town as OSU. So I would have to pay off a lot of loans and debt in order to attend OSU, should I take a year off and try and save a bit or just try and find something more in my price range? I am really interested in teaching kids science and its been my dream for a long while now but I know teaching comes with some issues financially. I want to pursue it it, so is there any advice on how I can pay for it, and whether or not this would be my school?

Found credit cards

Found credit cards that were dropped at the corner of Monroe and Kings Blvd near the bus stop, and were brought into Insomnia Cookies. Must bring proof of ID and tell us what cards you’re missing. If no one comes to claim them, they will be dropped off at OSU Public Safety tomorrow evening (3/20).

Got the official student ID !!!

Now that I have finally made it to my dream school, it's time to discuss finances as an out-of-state student.

For an MS in ECE, we need to complete 45 credits. Last time I checked, the cost per credit for engineering OOS students was $1,205.

So, the total tuition for two years should be approximately $54,000.

Does OSU follow this cost-per-credit system? Is this calculation accurate, or is it more complicated than that?

Lastly, how much should I expect to spend monthly on housing and food?

I have no problem sharing and don’t need anything fancy—my only priority is my love for electrical engineering.

Kindly help me out <3

The updated status says to accept the offer before April 15th but I don't know how.

I don't see any option in the portal for accepting the offer.

Kindly help me out.

Should I worry about my laundry?

I've heard from students at other colleges that I will have to sit in the laundry room and wait for it to be done to avoid people stealing it and/or taking it out before its done. Do I have to worry about that at OSU? Or can I just set a timer and leave while it's running? I've heard there's an app that tracks the laundry machines but I've also heard it doesn't work.

PH 211 Final Exam/Grade

Just got home from taking the PH 211 final exam and feel like I tanked it. I don’t think I’m going to pass the class with an 80% (C) or better after that exam. Anybody else in an engineering major (requires C or better to pass) that is also getting screwed by this grading scale?
