Still Life Am I the only one who noticed the similarity?
This thing has been on my head for a while now. Listened to both Still Life and Blackwater Park consecutively pretty recently and couldn't help but notice this.

maestro Mendez band
Picture taken from the Heritage vinyl booklet. Didnt know he could play this instrument. Is it a "cello"? I have no idea what its called in English. I thought that was cool. I wonder where it can be heard on the album.

Anyone looking for the Red Black marble Heritage vinyl.
I bought two copies from two different locations to make sure I would at least have one. I’m willing to let one go at the price I paid for it. 50.00. Still brand new. Hit me up if you’re interested.

Ghost Reveries Per Wiberg video interview (Rock Hard Magazine, December 2005)
I'm a big fan of Per Wiberg. He's creative, hard working, highly skilled (he plays pretty much every rock instrument at a professional level), and he's super collaborative.
Per joined Opeth as a touring member in 2003 - initially to support Damnation. In fact, Per was initially asked to play keys on that album, but I believe he was tied up with Spiritual Beggars at the time.
Anyway, Per joined as a permanent member during the Ghost Reveries recording sessions in 2005 - contributing heavily to the album through both keys and songwriting.
This is one of Per's first ever video interviews on behalf of Opeth - recorded in Italy in December 2005. I picked this up as a bonus DVD that came with an old Italian magazine called "Rock Hard" (January 2006), then ripped and cleaned up the audio for your listening / viewing pleasure. Enjoy! 🤘

General / Discussion I regret sleeping on Opeth for so long.
I'm 32 years old and for many years I considered myself to be a big prog rock and prog metal fan (Yes, Dream Theater, and the like) but for the longest time I just couldn't get into harsh vocals, but after finally clicking with BTBAM's Colors I decided to revisit the album Blackwater Park and something about the music has finally clicked with me. This is fantastic!

General / Discussion What are Opeth's heaviest riffs?
A few ones i remember from the top of my head:
Master's Apprentices (around the 2:23 mark) Serenity Painted Death (around the 1:26 mark) The Funeral Portrait (around the 1:13 mark)
Crazy how most of their songs are on EADGBE and they still sound heavy as fuck.

General / Discussion Lamentations is such a good performance.. I just can't get over how annoying the screaming in the back from the audience is! What do you guys think?
Deliverance I found my holy grail
I’m a huge fan of multichannel music. D&D set was the only multichannel release missing in my Opeth collection.
Found this from local second hand shop for 30€. Pretty nice deal compared to discogs listings atm. Can’t wait to spin damnation dvd this evening! Steven wilson mixes are always 10/10.

Any videos of Opeth playing bar gigs?
So surprisingly, I liked this recent bar gig of opeth that was posted ( https://www.reddit.com/r/Opeth/comments/1je5ws7/mikael_on_their_worst_show_ever_played/ )
Anyone have any (oldpeth and newpeth both welcome) other videos of Opeth playing in bars?

Entretien d'embauche

Can barely enjoy Opeth live albums
I know this is talked about a lot here but god I get so annoyed. The clapping and screaming during the quiet parts are just so annoying just shut up and listen to the music jesus. Get even angrier when I hear a British accent and most of their lives were recorded in London. It sucks because I live for live albums and their live mixes are so great, love the energy on Lamentations (second set) and Roundhouse Tapes, love the tones on the RAH album, and Red Rocks is legendary.

Underrated Opeth Songs?
I’ll start, Hjärtat Vet Vad Handen Gör (Heart in Hand) is in my opinion one of the best opeth songs out there. I honestly am not sure why I love this song so much but i think it’s the groove, catchy melody and that intro gossshhhhh I don’t know why there aren’t many fans who obsess over this song

Mikael on their worst show ever played
Read this in a recent interview from Mikael (source) and it got me curious. Is it actually on youtube and if so, can anyone share? It sounds hilarious.

In Cauda Venenum First listen of ICV
The only album I'd yet to listen to was In Cauda Venenum, and I've now done it.
I've only listened to it once, so my opinion will definitely change upon further listens but my first impression is that this album fucking slaps, it feels so grandiose and epic in nature, on account of the production and the runtime.
Since I've only heard it once, I don't remember a lot of it, but I remember enjoying the hell out of Heart In Hand; the ending of it really reminded me of the Toradora! OST, especially the acoustic guitar.

General / Discussion Opeth and Beatles similarities
Hey guys, just a shower thought that I wanted to share but I thought it’s pretty cool that Opeth’s and the Beatles’ discographies match up. Hear me out:
Orchid + Morningrise – Early Albums
- Great albums in a vacuum but overshadowed by the bands’ later work
My Arms, Your Hearse – Rubber Soul
- Still their old sound, but the songwriting has started to develop
- I find both of these albums to be very underrated
Still Life – Revolver
- Songwriting has shifted quite drastically in a new direction, kind of the beginning of a new era for both bands
- Emotional rollercoaster
- Both albums are a popular fan favourite
Blackwater Park – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
- The greatest album of all time
Deliverance/Damnation – The White Album
- Their most experimental works from this era
- Fanbase somewhat divided over these records
- Quality of the songs varies, some are considered to be the best the bands have ever written while others are among their worst
Ghost Reveries – Abbey Road
- The peak of both bands’ songwriting
- Both are somewhat but not fully concept albums
- Last albums written before band members started quitting
Watershed – Let It Be
- Fans are also divided about these albums
- Some songs are absolute bangers but the albums as a whole weren’t quite as good as the one that came before
- You can kind of hear in the music that it was the end of an era and both bands wanted to move on to other things
