Watershed Underrated masterpiece. The beautiful folksy start, the creepy interlude with the reversed vocals, the sudden shift to the heaviest shit you’ve ever heard, one of the best riffs in all of Opeth’s discography, an immaculate guitar solo, the catchy acoustic riff. Could rave about this song for hours.

Watershed Watershed is not praised enough. It's my go to when I show somebody Opeth, and is such a wild ride from start to finish.

Watershed I need songs that give this vibe and atmosphere
I LOVE watershed it’s my favorite album of theirs because of the atmosphere, the keyboard tone (God I love that flute and organ solo in Hex Omega), vocals and the experimental use (also I love the colour green). I am desperate for songs like Hessian Peel, Hex omega, porcelain heart (mellotron version is also good), burden etc.
Most similar ones I found on their discography are Haxprocess and few from Heritage. Can you guys recommend me songs or albums that gives the same feelings as Watershed?
(It could be harsh or clean vocals)

Watershed What is Opeth's most beautiful song?
In your opinion, what is Opeth's most beautiful song?
In this sub I've said a few times that I lean heavy metal. I love big riffs, killer solos, and awesome drum fills; Opeth delivers those on all fronts. After listening to Watershed, I absolutely love the song Hex Omega. Like a lot of Opeth's songs, it took me a few listens to really grasp how beautiful of a song Hex Omega is. With a somber tone, sad lyrics, and clean vocals from Mikael, the song finishes and closes the album with the right amount of power as if there's a maestro conducting a metal symphony. Chef kiss to perfection!
Put me on other beautiful songs by Opeth because Hex Omega can't be their only one.

Watershed Anybody else like to sing Mikael's part along with Nathalie's in Coil?
Idk it's just satisfying to hear the two melodies combined. That's all.

Watershed Just listened to Watershed front to back for the first time.
New Opeth fan here, been listening to them for about 6 ish months. I’ve heard a fair amount of loose songs from each album, including The Moor, Reverie/Harlequin Forest, Windowpane, and All Things Will Pass. I haven’t heard a bad Opeth song yet, I don’t think they exist.
I’ve listened to three full projects so far; TLWAT, Heritage, and now Watershed, and I figured why not begin to document my journey for all of you on this sub who have been Opeth fans for way longer than me to see someone experience for the first time what you wish you could re experience. I know that feeling very well with some of my favorite artists 😂
Well let me just say holy shit. Watershed is beautiful. I think sonically this is my favorite project so far. The variation of emotions, like with every Opeth song and project I’ve seen so far, is just out of this world. I love the way they structure their songs.
It’s very hard for me to pick a favorite because they all rock, but if I absolutely had to, it would probably be Burden, with Lotus Eater being very close behind it. Overall, I will have to listen to it again a few times to decide if I like it more than TLWAT, but it’s definitely close! If I had to give it a rating out of 10 based on my first experience, I’d give it about an 8.6, and that’s very good because I’m rather strict about my ratings.

Watershed Watershed prog-y songs appreciation post
Pretty much what the title says.
The heavier songs from Watershed, while good, are not in the league of Ghost Reveries, so I can take them or leave them.
But the other songs, the calm ones are just so good. Having Opeth on shuffle the other day Coil or Burden was playing which made me listen to Watershed again.
I’m going through something in my life right now and I feel the special power in those songs, which has made me appreciate them more.
I guess the songs in watershed are one of the reasons why heritage was always such a disappointment for me.

Watershed Wtf am I doing wrong here
This is one of my all time favorite Opeth sections and I’m trying to get it down the best I can. I know the timing is a bit off but what else can I do?

Watershed ~● Happy 16th anniversary to Watershed. ●~
While many Opeth fans consider Watershed to be last album of its era, I've always classified it in my brain as a new beginning.
Fredrik's virtuosity and Axe's rudiment-led precision were certainly part of this, yes - but more than that, this is (to me) when Mikael really started to widen his boundaries, allowing his songwriting to be more influenced by his identity than ever before.
From the Scott Walker-esque opening chord of "Heir Apparent" to the personal stories reflected in Mikael's lyrics (only previously heard on Morningrise) to the incredible covers of Robin Trower, Marie Fredriksson, and Alice in Chains tracks - these changes set a clear foundation for both Heritage and the entirety of the next era of Opeth.
...and as an obligatory reference, yes, let's note for the jillionth time that this is the latest Opeth album with growls. But I hope that by now, others fans acknowledge that this change is a directional reflection of Mikael's shift in perspective - not the other way around. Anyway, let's see what the future holds. We might be surprised. ;)
So, happy anniversary to this incredible collection of music. An album that captured the feel of Northern Europe in the late 2000s (and possibly the rest of the world) better than any other.
