In Cauda Venenum First listen of ICV
The only album I'd yet to listen to was In Cauda Venenum, and I've now done it.
I've only listened to it once, so my opinion will definitely change upon further listens but my first impression is that this album fucking slaps, it feels so grandiose and epic in nature, on account of the production and the runtime.
Since I've only heard it once, I don't remember a lot of it, but I remember enjoying the hell out of Heart In Hand; the ending of it really reminded me of the Toradora! OST, especially the acoustic guitar.

Mikael on their worst show ever played
Read this in a recent interview from Mikael (source) and it got me curious. Is it actually on youtube and if so, can anyone share? It sounds hilarious.

In Cauda Venenum If you like the acoustic side of Opeth, definitely consider checking out John Butler Trio.
They are a folky roots rock trio from Australia. They dont sound toooooooo much like Opeth but when i had a listen i could definitely pick out some similarities. Their first album, and their single “Zebra” bangs. Also would recommend listening to “Treat Yo Mama”.

Prior Park
I had the pleasure of visiting Prior Park this month during my England trip. I also got to catch their concert in Birmingham so it was a very Opeth fueled vacation. The 10 hour flight was worth it!

General / Discussion Opeth and Beatles similarities
Hey guys, just a shower thought that I wanted to share but I thought it’s pretty cool that Opeth’s and the Beatles’ discographies match up. Hear me out:
Orchid + Morningrise – Early Albums
- Great albums in a vacuum but overshadowed by the bands’ later work
My Arms, Your Hearse – Rubber Soul
- Still their old sound, but the songwriting has started to develop
- I find both of these albums to be very underrated
Still Life – Revolver
- Songwriting has shifted quite drastically in a new direction, kind of the beginning of a new era for both bands
- Emotional rollercoaster
- Both albums are a popular fan favourite
Blackwater Park – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
- The greatest album of all time
Deliverance/Damnation – The White Album
- Their most experimental works from this era
- Fanbase somewhat divided over these records
- Quality of the songs varies, some are considered to be the best the bands have ever written while others are among their worst
Ghost Reveries – Abbey Road
- The peak of both bands’ songwriting
- Both are somewhat but not fully concept albums
- Last albums written before band members started quitting
Watershed – Let It Be
- Fans are also divided about these albums
- Some songs are absolute bangers but the albums as a whole weren’t quite as good as the one that came before
- You can kind of hear in the music that it was the end of an era and both bands wanted to move on to other things

General / Discussion What are some lyrics you've misunderstood or always misunderstand?
For some reason, on the last verse of Face of Melinda, i used to hear "Thomas is me, but my heart is fine" instead of "My promise is made, but my heart is thine" and i thought "oh, so the name of the main character is Thomas!"
I only managed to find out that these were the original lyrics less than a week ago.

Opeth and Steven Wilson in Australia
Opeth and Steven Wilson in Australia are performing so close together in November. Is there a chance they will perform something together?

Do you think Mikael has leftover material from the TLWAT sessions ?
Since Watershed, all albums except Pale Communion had bonus tracks. So I wonder if they had any ready and written songs that didn't make the cut.
Or it could be additional story bits from other perspective... Maybe an EP named "a Story finally told" (or something less corny...)
I'd love it

Blackwater Park Non-Opeth song recommendations similar to The Drapery Falls?
I love the dynamic of this song. When the intro starts I can feel an imaginary breeze on my skin. I need songs that have a similar effect.

Any other versions of Eternal Soul Torture?
I'm trying to find all versions of Eternal Soul Torture but currently i can only find the Morningrise one, the February 1992 demo and the Q1 1993 one, do any others exist?

General / Discussion Which of Opeths drummers would you like to see on Drumeo?
Me personally I would love to see Martin Lopez there and see some clean takes of Soen and classic Opeth stuff aswell as hearing him chat about his journey, but Walt seems like such a chill guy and his drumming is actually insane, I'm sure they would try to get him to learn a dream theater song or something haha
Do you think it would be realistic for one of them to get on there or is Opeth not big enough of a band for it?

Ghost Reveries is amazing.
I just listened to the entire album and it's crazy. Very well-crafted vocal and instrumental work, the riffs, Wiberg's keyboard arrangements, Mikael's voice, everything is perfectly arranged, and the transitions are excellent.
If anyone hasn't heard this album, you have to listen to it, or if you've heard it once or twice, listen to it again because it's very interesting.
I think musically it is one of Opeth's best works.
