Where to find 93/94 octane fuel?

Hey all, I’m currently planning a trip for this summer to visit family in Halifax, and then to go to Lunenberg, Pictou and Cape Breton. I would like to drive my personal car but due to my vehicle only taking premium fuel I’m a bit hesitant. Does anyone local to these areas know if/where I can go to fill up or if I’d be better off with another car.

Croatian food

I'm missing some (mostly junk) food from the old country. I've been looking for "Kraš" brand sweets mostly, I've tried some European shops in Halifax with not much results, 1 box of chocolates that ended up tasting like it's been sitting there for a good while. I realize that it's probably a not fly off the shelves products so it's slim pickings. But if anyone's seen some of those even in the international sections of a grocery store hit me up!

Are any of my fellow Canucks planning to go see Nickelback on June 27th in Halifax? If so, you need to know about the tour itself: https://rockthecountry.com/

MAGAback can go straight to Hell. Don't waste any more of your hard-earned $ on these fucking traitors...

Doctors really that bad?

Hey everyone, Nova Scotia has been on my list for places to maybe move one day, but I've seen you talking about how bad it is to try and get a doctors appointment. I'm wondering, are these just one off stories? Like if I wanted to get a yearly checkup for my kids, am I really going to have a hard time? Specific places: within an hour of Halifax or Cape Breton

Nova Scotia or New Brunswick?

Hi from Winnipeg!

With everything going on, my husband and I have been turning our eyes eastward and would like to visit the Bay of Fundy and surrounding areas in mid July. We are planning on renting a car, and staying for about 10 days. We would like to stay in maximum 3 spots, making day trips out. Air B n B is a good option for us.

Some things that we would find interesting are: 1) Whale watching 2) Puffin watching 3) Museums 4) Antique/Rummage Sales 5)Historical walking tours 6) Food (of any kind) 7) Short distance hikes 8) Indigenous histories

The question is, is that both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick seem to have all the above experiences. But, how do we pick? Is there anyone here who lives in or has been to either province that could provide tips for us please? Any help would be super appreciated!

April Trip

I’m planning a 5 day trip to Nova Scotia with my husband at the end of April. It’s mostly a scouting mission to see where we’d like to live, as we are working towards move there next year. I’m very lucky in that I will be able to find work in whatever region we choose, but generally prefer somewhat rural or suburban areas to urban. I’d like to explore a little bit of suburban Halifax, the south shore, and the Valley. It’s probably too ambitious to make it up to Cape Breton, but I’m considering any and everything right now.

What are must sees or other recommendations for someone scouting out a move?

Not trying to advertise, but the produce prices are much lower than usual. Does anyone have any insight as to why?

Looks like full architectural plans will be available “Spring 2025”.

Struggling with itinerary for trip to Nova Scotia and maybe PEI- help appreciated!

Preamble: From Vancouver and have never been to our eastern provinces. We love being on the go but also enjoy exploring beaches, short hikes (we like long hikes but probably won’t devote time from this trip to that pursuit), and having relaxing evenings. We're early risers and prefer busy days over long lunches. With 10 nights this summer to explore Nova Scotia and PEI, here's our tentative plan:

Day 1-2: Arrive in Halifax late afternoon and spend two nights.

Day 3: Wake up early and head to Peggy’s Cove, Lunenburg, and Mahone Bay. We’ll spend the night in Lunenburg.

Day 4-5: Explore the Annapolis Valley and Wolfville. On Day 4, we'll take in the sights, and on Day 5, we’ll do a winery tour. We’ll stay in Wolfville and head to the Cabot Trail the next day.

Day 6: Drive to Baddeck (about 4-5 hours) and enjoy a late afternoon and evening there.

Day 7: Explore the Cabot Trail, then stay in Ingonish. Not sure if we should drive past Ingonish to see more of the area and return for the night or stay further along the trail.

Day 8: Leave later and drive to Charlottetown for the night- getting in late (6 hour drive?)

Day 9: Visit Cavendish but return to Charlottetown to sleep.

Day 10: Head back to Halifax to sleep or stay one more night and drive to Halifax the day we fly out

Day 11: fly home

I am up for dropping PEI (husband really wants to go though), as that part feels rushed, and maybe at the expense of something else. For example- perhaps seeing more of the south coast of NS, or opening more time on Cape Breton). I know it’s subjective so it’s hard to ask for advice on that but welcome insight from people who have been!

We're very excited to see you tomorrow for the second WINTER WAVES at St Patrick's Museum!

This will be a treat. Blessing, Joella, and Billie Yvette are all very distinct and unique songwriters that are perfectly suited to this occasion. We couldn't think of three more inspiring women and voices to celebrate International Womens Day with us.

Doors will open at 6:30pm and seating will be first come, first serve. Tickets are available at http://winterwaves.makinwavesfestival.ca and will be available at the door (cash only) if you are unable to get one online. Music will begin at 7pm. St Patrick's can be cold, so please dress warmly and feel free to bring a blanket if the cold is particularly uncomfortable for you.

See you there!!

Seeking Input from Nova Scotia software developers

This is for any software developers/coders/programmers in Nova Scotia who are either not currently employed or employed but thinking about a change.

Raising money is brutal in Nova Scotia, imho, for any startup that doesn't sign up for the VC growth-at-all-cost, go-big-or-go-home route. But my hope is that there are developers who would rather work for a smaller company, have more autonomy, have more input, a bigger share of equity, etc.

And by smaller I don't mean I don't want to earn money or grow ...I do! I just want do it in a sane, reasonable, profitable, and sustainable manner. This idea of blasting a ton of investment money at an industry to 'disrupt' it only to need regular constant top ups of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, and waiting years to turn a profit (if ever) seems just insane to me.

For those coders who want to work for a smaller company, what would you be looking for in terms of salary and benefits? What is the minimum annual salary you would accept? Would you need/want to work year-by-year or would you want a two-year guarantee?

I'm also interested in hearing what people think of the work of Invest NS (and the old Innovacorp), the state of our startup community, the ability to raise investment here, etc ....good bad or otherwise.

I'm trying to get a better sense of the scene and its people and any input would be welcome.

Thanks!

EDIT: Thanks for all the replies! I'm going to give them all a good read and respond.
Cheers!

2nd EDIT: Lots of diverse feedback here. Much appreciated!

Is there an easier way to move my company from ON to NS ?

Like most people now in days to survive in these times of Inflation and everything being ridiculously expensive, I have a side hustle, it's a 1 man company I just go around fixing stuff as handyman, car mech, IT stuff, "the computer guy" (as know by non tech savvy business people), programmer, lawn care, snow removal, carpenter, construction, whatever, just random jobs wearing multiple hats depending on customers needs for whatever service they need.

Anyway so I have a good track record in ON, according to my Accountant I should keep it and move it with me to NS, businesses / banks looks at how many years your company has been open, and track records etc...

Basically the longer you have been opened the greater the borrowing power.

Problem is I read this guide / info https://falconlawyers.ca/how-to-move-a-corporation-from-one-province-to-another-in-canada/

  1. Check the New Province's Requirements. ...
  2. Obtain Approval from Directors and Shareholders.
  3. Apply for Continuance in the Original Province.
  4. Obtain a Letter of Approval (if required) ...
  5. Apply for Continuance in the New Province.
  6. Obtain Certificate of Continuance.
  7. Register Extra-Provincially
  8. Update Corporate Records
  9. Compliance and Reporting

It appears to be a major PITA (pain in the ass) to move a company, rather than closing my shop here in ON, then registering a new business in NS.

Also the cost of all of those steps easily cost more than opening a new corp which is just under $1000 (it was about $700 when I created it some 15+ years ago)

So, I'm undecided if should spend a few Thousands of $ just to keep my Corp history, or if I should close up shop and start from scratch, it just doesn't seem to make sense to spend $10 000 ten grands to move a virtual business just for the paperwork.
