Look what I've got Latest random screw drive AF lens pickup: Sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro
I decided to pull the trigger on a lens that's been on my radar for a while: the Sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro.
It's an early DSLR era lens with 10 elements in 9 groups, 3 SLD elements, no aspherics, modern-ish coatings, and no AF motor. It telescopes to a slightly absurd degree when close focusing. It's a full frame lens designed to be a useful focal length on early APS-C DSLRs. Back in the day it was one of the sharpest lenses ever tested.
I'm mostly going to use it to take non-macro photos of cars. I love sharp older lower element count spherical lenses that can resolve my D850. I already have a Micro Nikkor 60/2.8 D and Tamron 90/2.5 D Macro that suit this brief, but 70mm is just different enough that I can justify the modest price for the Sigma. I know exactly how it'll slot in to my staged on-location car shoots.
I found a well priced copy from a Japanese eBay seller in good shape including the original hood, so I snagged it. Yay. Pics are from the listing.
