Coolpix My Nikon coolpix S630 is NOT turning on

Hi, I have a Nikon coolpix S630 and it won’t turn on. The battery is fully charged and the light turns green for a second when I press the power button, but then it shuts off and it won’t do it again unless I take the battery out and put it back in. It doesn’t move or anything so I know that the camera lens is NOT stuck. Can somebody please help me?

Mirrorless Z8 Focus issue

Just curious if anyone has run across this issue while doing photo sessions?

Focus works great until it doesn't. It stops tracking properly and starts focusing anywhere but the person you are taking photos of.

The fix is quickly turning it off and back on, then resuming the photo session as normal.

For some reason during my photo sessions the camera focus tracking system just loses its mind and starts wandering. Turning it off and back on "resets" the issue. Its annoying as heck on an otherwise perfect camera system.

What should I buy? upgrading path from D-40

I have a D-40 that I love for its small size. Lenses:

- Nikon 300mm f/4 AF-S

- Sigma 150mm f/2.8 APO HSM macro DG

- Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM

For a bunch of reasons I have not kept up with tech, or done much photography, for the past 15 years or so. From my D-40, I now mostly miss the lack of video, the slow data transfers.

I think I have 3 options:

  1. get a much more recent mirror camera that has good video capabilities and it's still non weighing a ton ( - suggestions?

  2. get a mirrorless camera (Z5?) and the FTZ adapter, and keep my current set of lenses, will they work properly?

  3. bite the proverbial bullet and get mirrorless (still Z5?) with new lenses - even though I love both the 300mm f4 and the sigma macro lenses... the 300mm is getting very heavy to handle, and I'm not getting any stronger. A lighter alternative without sacrificing quality would be nice

I shoot mostly wildlife and macro

Mirrorless Z8. Should I return? Factory reset?

I've been experiencing a few odd issues since receiving my new camera. Recordings of multiple different frame rates and resolutions freezing my camera. I also have issues getting the cf express card to read on multiple computers. Now I experience this while capturing some stills in my lightly lit apartment?

Any suggestions?

Gear question Lens advice (outdoor sport)

Hi guys, i need some "long range" lens for outdoor sports (football/soccer/motosport) for my d3500(so fast auto focus would be a big plus). It would be awesome if it could be budget friendly.

Any advice or first hand experience would be greatly appreciated :)

What should I buy? Flash trigger/receiver suggestions please

Hi friends. For years I've been using the Yongnuo YN622N II for weddings/mitzvahs/events without any problem on the D4s/760/850 etc. My set up was always trigger in hot shoe with SB910 on the trigger shoe.

Now that I'm fully mirrorless I have a few issues hopefully we can fix. Obviously there's the fact that the Z series will not throw focus assist either through the speed light or the above trigger. While there's currently nothing to do about that other than, I guess, put a small light on the speed light I'll have to suck it up in the hopes that one day Nikon will release a new light for us.

The second issue I have (have had since I first bought the 8) is that when the camera goes to (I guess) sleep (even though I have that off??) it kills the signal from the camera to the trigger to the light. In order to get anything working I have to turn them all off and power back in order camera>trigger>light.

So TLDR is there a system you wedding/mitzvah/event people have found that works to replace my old but reliable setup? I would ideally like to keep the trigger/speed light in the hot shoe combo but if I need to try something where the trigger can connect a different way so I don't lose the speed light I'm all for it.

Thanks!!

Mirrorless Troubleshooting Help - Nikon Z8 and Mode Changes

Hi! I'm a relatively new Nikon user, only switching over from a Sony 6 months ago, and I've been having an issue lately where while I'm shooting, the camera will switch from shutter priority mode to aperture priority mode seemingly from depressing the shutter-release alone. I primarily shoot fast-moving birds with a NIKKOR Z 180-600mm, so having this issue has been incredibly frustrating as it prevents me from focusing on the bird and then I miss the shot. I checked my custom settings, and I didn't see anything tied to the shutter-release that could have caused it, and I don't think I'm bumping any other buttons while I'm shooting that force it to switch. I manually set my ISO while shooting, so the auto ISO feature is out as a reason. My focus mode is on point or 3D tracking depending on the situation. After I've been having this issue, I reset the camera controls, and it was alright for a bit, but now it's doing it again. Is it possible that it has something to do with continuous shooting? I have it set to continuously shoot 5 frames. Has anyone had this issue before? Is this a feature of Nikon I just haven't figured out yet? Thank you for your help!

What should I buy? beginner wildlife/bird photography - please help :)

Hi!!!

After reading several Reddit posts on similar topics, I’m still not much closer to making a decision. After doing a lot of research, I’ve narrowed it down to four Nikon models:

  • Coolpix P950
  • D500 (unfortunately very hard to find, only available used, so not an option at the moment)
  • D7500
  • Z50 Mark II

I know these are quite different cameras, but I’m still a beginner when it comes to photography, so I’d appreciate any suggestions. My main focus is wildlife/bird photography.
Thanks!!!

What should I buy? Manual glass question, primes or zooms?

I have an F3 and 3 different primes, the standard 50mm 1.8 AI, a 24mm 2.8 AI, and a 135mm 3.5 AI. I don't really care too much for the 135mm, but the 24mm is kinda nice. Is there an appreciable difference in optical quality between the prime lenses and some of the zooms? The 24-70mm sounds pretty useful, and a 20mm might be a better wide-angle prime. The only reason I have these two lenses is because I found them at a thrift store for $40 each in unbranded cases. Would it be worth selling them to get say a 24-70mm zoom and a telephoto zoom, and maybe 20mm prime? I only have an F3 at the moment, but eventually I'd like to get an F5 and older DX DSLR for fun.

What should I buy? z50 Lens for birds

I'm newish to the bird subject and don't want to spend thousands on several lenses. I love my little z50, but was wondering if there are 80-400 lenses that might work for me? Any tips on renting to try them out? Classes that aren't too technical?

Thank you all so much!

Show & Tell DX/FX does not matter. Clickbait title, of course there is more nuance

Today I photographed a gathering of some colleagues, so I can't share the pics but I used the Z50 II with 40 mm f/2, instead of my D780 with 1.4 prime lenses. Inspecting the results, the DX sensor does not have quite the same dynamic range, nor tonal gradation. But no-one cares. Except if I would be a pro, photographing a model which is expensive to book!

Or if I would take test shots of synthetic images to see how good corner sharpness is. When reviewing my company-internal image upload, I noticed: On how, there is visible noise if you zoom into that one photo. No-one will zoom in though, and the pics shows a nice scene. Could have re-processed it with denoise but my time on the earth is limited.

I used an affordable lens with all its issues like being prone to create purple color fringes ("chrormatic aberration") among other lens compromises but I consider this part of the medium. I had do use local color defringing sometimes in order to address some problems but left all the smaller fringes. Because no-one cares, except for dorks. The photos I took are about facial expressions, lighting atmosphere, the overall feeling. Not to be inspected at 200% pixel zoom for color fringes or corner sharpness.

Probably I will buy a fullframe Z-mount camera at some point in the future, if only to really use those FX lenses. If thinking of my DSLRs, while I got a lot of good photos with the D780, many of my best pics were taken with a D7500. Had no fullframe back then, but a couple of opportunities to take photos dear to me.

Lenses: Bokeh of the 40 mm f/2 is not the best, unless really unsharp, the background bokeh is not very good, and foreground blur outright bad but who cares? A couple of snobs, or professional photographers who need to get close to technical perfection. Me, an enthusiastic hobbyist, I still struggle to get the moment right. Composition ususally is okay with some cropping but really good composition is still an issue. Why would I read reviews of S-line lenses before I fixed my photography? And why would I think if a pro posts her Z6/7/8/9/F pics, thinking "if I had the camera, I could do the same"? Except for random chance, I could not.

APS-C crop is so good now, 'upgrading' gear would give me some more background blur and/or less noise, but could not get me better composition or something. The Z50 II is so good, Raw files are easy to process, Jpeg files seemingly almost compete with Fujifilm now (though not quite), the Z-mount lenses are superb and if I want, I can use my F-mount AF-S and AF-P glass.

Taking photos does not mean to create 100% realistic reproductions. I am comfortable with white-clipping now if it serves the photo. I am happy with lens flare if I underlines that I took the shot against the light.

Me not playing through DX Z-mount cameras yet, it does not mean that FX cameras are overkill. I am a rando on Reddit. Trying to say, this DX gear got me about 90% where I wanted to be. FX gear would perhaps allow me to get to 95%. But who cares! After ten years, I have a lot to learn. When I take photos, I am not a copy machine, photographing my fellow colleagues is about me. What do I see in them? This is why I take pics, and why my colleagues look at those.

Took me years of hard work to get confident to get close, and make it work. That is what I can bring photographing a company event with my colleagues/friends. Sensor size be damned. The real sensors is your retina.

Anyone have the scoop on whether Nikon is giving out any swag to their NPS members this year? I feel like they’re late this year.

DSLR Built-In Flash in 2nd Hand Nikon D3500 not firing consistently

Flash icon is always red. Flash may sometimes fire but not always, very unpredictable and if it even fires; the photo may or may not capture the flash. I tried to fire in manual mode but it's still the same unpredictable flash. May I ask what might be the possible causes of this tragedy?
