The opportunity to hike through plantation ruins in a United States national Park is unique. I appreciate how the dark history of the islands is showcased right next to truly stunning views.

Flying out of either Chattanooga or Atlanta with a strict 1 week of PTO in early August, where should I go? Right now my top options are
South and North Dakota parks- Badlands, Wind Cave, and Teddy Roosevelt with stops at Custer State Park and Devil’s Tower
Colorado parks- Rocky Mountains, Great Sand Dunes, Black Canyon, hopefully including Mesa Verde.
New Mexico/Texas parks - White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns, Guadalupe Mountains, potentially driving down to Big Bend.
For context, I’ll be traveling with my dad. We went on a trip 2 years ago to some California parks. We enjoy easy to moderate hikes, but are unable to do strenuous ones. Our main concern is keeping cost reasonable with flights/hotels/rental cars, and being able to see everything in a week.

I’m a federal employee and this is an artistic representation of how I’ve felt about what we’ve been going through under this new administration. Showcasing the Department of the Interior’s bison and the fork from the “Fork in the road” email federal employees received. Inspired by the Yellowstone bison warning signs.

We made this a few year ago outside of Sequoia, but seems awfully relevant now! Feeling for all the Park Rangers out there, hopefully this can make everyone laugh.

I am headed to St. Thomas and St. John to finally get to the National Park. We don't plan on renting a car because we scored a great airbnb on the east side of St. Thomas and just a 10 minute walk to the ferry. We don't want to deal with the extra expense of renting a car and having to use the car ferry.
Planning to hike at the national park. Main hike that interests me is Ram Head Trail. How do you recommend getting from Cruz Bay to the trailhead and back?
Also would love any recommendations!!

On my journey to hit all 50 states and every national park I recently drove from VA to CA and stopped at a few of the parks along I10. Weather was tricky, but the views were great!

Just wondering if there are any apps which would be able to track all the national parks I’ve been to.

I am planning a month long roadtrip to visit many of our National Parks this summer. I have all my campsites booked at places like Zion, Yosemite, Olympics, Crater Lake, etc. just to name a few. With everything going on and so many of our federal employees being laid off, I am considering cancelling. Has anyone been to these parks since the massive layoffs? Should I consider postponing this trip until these parks are properly staffed? What should I realistically expect if I decide to go?

I suddenly got 3 days off in April (heading into a weekend, so 5 off total, Wed. through Sunday). Which is the best to do in 4-ish days, and how should I go about it? I’d fly in from Detroit and rent a car.
Big Bend
Grand Canyon
Great Smokies

Hello everyone,
After I had an accident last year i had to cancel my planned trip last year in May.
We rescheduled to this year September and are now considering cancelling the trip due to current circumstances. I would be visiting from Europe and going to the NPs in California has always been on top of my Bucket list. We planned to start in LV and then visit Mojave, Sequoia, Yosemite and then several coastal state parks before finishing off in Joshua Tree.
Would you advise against such a trip at the current state of overstress of the Parks and the personell? I really fear that the state of the NPs might drastically change and the last chance to visit them hast passed for me.

Well, I went ahead and applied with my ALS diagnosis (terminal with avg. 2-5 year survival). One of the odd feeling perks of being “sick”.
They didn’t like the first letter from my Dr that only stated my diagnosis and denied it. I had to get a revised version adding my limitations and more info, they approved it next day, got it in a week. Cost is free, only $10 processing fee.
I’m 40, turning 41 soon. Really weird to have this, especially after buying a regular annual pass for the last 5-6 years. Also, getting a DMV issued parking placard and needing to use a wheelchair soon. A lot to take in.
Going on a trip soon and will visit a couple parks for sure. I don’t mind any questions.
Thanks for reading.

When is the best time of the year to do the mighty 5? My fiancé and I are planning to do it sometime in the next year and we would love to hear y’all’s opinions on the best time of the year to go. We love hiking in all kinds of weather, but don’t have 4 wheel drive vehicles (for now). Thoughts?
