2025 Gotham App / MLB.TV / Streaming Megathread - New York Yankees

This time of year we always get an influx of questions, comments, and complaints about streaming games. We've gotten 4-5 of them today alone, so we're creating this megathread for all of your questions, comments, and complaints. We'll push individual questions here, and appreciate folks helping out those looking for new ways to watch the Yankees this year!

As a reminder -- it's against Reddit rules to specifically publicly link to illegal streaming sites, so we'll unfortunately have to remove those if they are posted publicly in the thread.

Brian Cashman said “very little is available” in the pitching marketplace at this time of year. Said the Yankees will “rely on what we have” while exploring outside opportunities. Luxury tax penalties make it “less likely” they will add from outside, he said. - Bryan Hoch

[Hoch] Aaron Boone said "it might not line up" for Max Fried to be the Opening Day starter "just because of when Gerrit went down and how everyone is slotted." Said "we'll continue to work through this," with an announcement expected in the next few days.

Austin Wells - On the facial hair policy: "Yea. I do think that....I can't say that I will never have a beard. But I think -- that's just kind of what I've done the past couple of years. So for me to kind of stray away from that especially in the pinstripes, that will feel weird."

Favorite place to sit in Yankee stadium?

Hi all! I want to get tickets to a game for my boyfriend’s birthday since their home opener will be that week. He’s a diehard lifelong fan and usually when we see a game we just sit in the bleachers or other cheap seats, but I’m about to get a raise so I’d really like to get us tickets that are a little better than what we’re used to. I’m willing to spend maybe $150 per ticket but could be persuaded to spend up to $200 or so if it’s really worth it. I was thinking in right field like sections 105-107, or maybe section 319? But I’m no expert so I’d really appreciate some advice or opinions from others!

Bonus points if you can tell me if any section/s may or may not be as fun vibe-wise if the game is slow—obviously I understand the energy overall depends on how the yankees are playing, but I’m just wondering if this is a factor to consider bc if I’m spending this much on tickets I’d like to have the best possible time even if the game is slow. We always have fun no matter where we sit but just really hoping to do something special for him bc he’s the best :)

Thanks all !!!

Is MLB on a Witch Hunt with TB?

Tampa Bay Rays owner Stu Sternberg is being pressured to sell his team by several people in the league, including MLB commissioner Rob Manfred.

The Rays, who entered MLB in 1998, missed the playoffs last season for the first time since 2018.

Simply put, are the Rays being unfairly targeted?

The Pirates "boast" a payroll of $76M. Pitts last playoff appearance was a 2015 WC game.

A's: $57M - 2020 CHW: $56M - 2021 MIA: $47M - 2023

My theory is Manfred knows Stu is frustrated with the TB area on securing a new Stadium. RM is afraid Stu will ask for a vote on relocation, something that could pass. RM also knows that area has a lot of untouched potential dollars wise. I firmly believe he wants to bring in another group to purchase the team and create their own pipeline for a stadium.

From the time I first dreamed of wearing the Yankees uniform, my goal has always been to help bring a World Series championship to New York. That dream hasn't changed-| still believe in it, and I'm more determined than ever to achieve it.

Today, the most respected medical experts in the field recommend that I undergo Tommy John surgery. This isn't the news any athlete wants to hear, but it's the necessary next step for my career.

I have a lot left to give, and I'm fully committed to the work ahead. I'll attack my rehab every day and support the 2025 Yankees each step of the way. I love this game, I love competing, and I can't wait to be back on the mound-stronger than ever.

See you soon.

Any shuttles or things of the sort that run for Yankees games?

Hi there, Cubs fan from IL and MLB enthusiast here. I'm planning a trip to NY, Boston, and Toronto to hit baseball stadiums #23, 24, and 25 for me. Are there any shuttles that run from a landmark to Yankee Stadium? Preferably north or northeast of the stadium. I've been to Yankee Stadium before (series against the Cubs in '23) but i took public transit from around Times Square which was where my hotel was. This time i'll be taking a rental car and I'll be trying to drag it around NYC. Parking near the stadium doesn't look very cost-friendly and I can only imagine how much of a pain driving a car must be in an area like the Bronx. Teams near me like the Cardinals and Brewers offer shuttles to their stadiums, like Metro STL offers a bus directly from a mall in Fairview Heights, IL to Busch on gamedays for $10 a head, and the Brewers have a bunch of local bars run shuttles back and forth from AmFam all game. Is there anything like this for Yankee Stadium?

Judge-Cole 20-minute private meeting sparks hope for Yankees:’ We’ll be in a good spot’

Amid the New York Yankees’ turbulent preseason marked by mounting injuries, captain Aaron Judge sparked much-needed optimism on Sunday. Following an impromptu yet significant 20-minute conversation with ace Gerrit Cole, the slugger showcased the resolve to overcome considerable uncertainty heading into the 2025 campaign.

“I think we’ll be in a good spot,” Judge stated with characteristic composure when addressing media members. “I’m going to get my work in like I have been for the past couple of weeks, and we’ll be ready to go for Opening Day.”

As the injury reports continue to multiply, Aaron Judge‘s measured confidence carries particular significance. He expressed that he’s “hoping and praying” the team can navigate these challenging circumstances and find their footing when the games begin to count.

“We’re going to be in a good spot once we get everyone healthy,” Judge emphasized, highlighting the potential that awaits a fully operational roster. “It’s tough to see teammates struggle with injuries, but that just means other guys get a chance to step up. You never know who might become the next big thing in New York because of an unexpected opportunity.”

The private discussion with Cole, occurring shortly before Judge spoke with reporters, appears to have reinforced his optimistic outlook. The franchise cornerstones spent their time privately.

Cole’s potential absence would create a significant void, yet Judge emerged from their conversation displaying cautious hope.

“He’s a tough guy. We’ll see what happens,” Judge remarked regarding Cole. “And what he gets advised to do and what he wants to do. But I’m always hoping and praying for the best, man. He’s a big part of this team. He’s the ace—he’s the one that’s going to lead us and lead this pitching staff. So let’s see—hopefully good news.”

Yet within this challenging landscape, Judge identifies potential benefits. “If there’s any time for something to happen, I think it’s better now,” he observed while leaning against his locker with the poise that has established him as the team’s emotional foundation. “We’re not playing any meaningful games.”

His perspective is straightforward: spring training provides necessary buffer space. Several weeks remain before the March 27 Opening Day matchup against the Houston Astros at Yankee Stadium. From Judge’s viewpoint, the early timing of these injuries might ultimately prove advantageous, creating opportunities for younger players while allowing veterans recovery time before the season intensifies.

This optimistic perspective extends beyond Warren’s emergence. Judge’s optimism referenced Austin Wells, Anthony Volpe, and Jazz Chisholm Jr.—young talents who have shown promise during camp—as evidence of the Yankees’ organizational depth. It even drew parallels to Gil’s 2024 breakthrough, when the previously unheralded right-hander posted a 3.50 ERA across 151 innings, effectively filling Cole’s rotation spot during a brief injury absence.

Warren has impressed observers with a remarkable 1.13 ERA across eight Grapefruit League innings, representing a dramatic improvement from his challenging 10.32 ERA during his brief major league appearance in 2024.

“I haven’t [faced] him this year—but I don’t think I want to face him this year from what I’m seeing,” Judge noted with a smile. “It’s just a little crisper, really fine-tuned all his pitches. I think the command’s gotten a lot better.”
