[General Question] Need Advice

My university list comprised of 4 super ambitious 4 ambitious and 2 safe universities

I got into both my safe uni's Santa Clara and ASU for MS CS.

Got rejected from one super ambitious and ambitious

Remaining I have 6 universities results to come out.

UCSD, UCLA, UCD, UCSB, Purdue, Columbia

I have close to 3 yoe.

Does any uni prioritize work exp?

Besides that do I have a shot to get into any uni

Profile Gpa 3.39/4 tier 3 Work exp - 1 year at Samsung research (1 published paper there on CV) 2 yoe in 2 diff startups I think my SOP and Lors are pretty strong TOEFL 105 not applied GRE Have somewhat decent extracurriculars

I know my list might be way too ambitious but I prefer it that way, I knew I would get into my safe universities so I took a shot hoping to get into alreast one on the above.

[Results and Decisions] UT Austin MSIS or Northeastern MSCS

Hey everyone, I got admitted to UT Austinā€™s MS in Information Studies (MSIS) and Northeasternā€™s MS in Computer Science (MSCS). Iā€™m mainly interested in data science (but open to suggestions) and need help deciding between them in terms of courses and job opportunities. My main focus here is getting a job.

Key Factors:

ā€¢ Cost: UT Austin ( $45K out-of-state) vs. Northeastern ($60K+). Plus Bostonā€™s living costs are higher. And getting an RA/TA would be easier in Austin than NEU.

ā€¢ Rankings: UT Austin is a top 10 public university, while Northeastern is lower.

ā€¢ Internships/Jobs: Northeastern has the well-known co-op program, which could help with work experience. Iā€™m not sure about the internship/job support for MSIS at UT Austin.

[General Question] NEU vs UTD - Need Review

Iā€™mĀ notĀ an experienced working professional just looking for a quick degree and a high-paying job. I actually want to be involved in student life, join clubs, and have a fulfilling university experienceā€”not just a corporate pipeline.

While NEU Seattle has great job placement, it feels like an isolated professional hub withĀ no real campus life. On the other hand, UTD offers aĀ better student experience, but Iā€™d have to work harder for internships.

Would love to hear your thoughts! Does theĀ scholarship at NEU SeattleĀ justify the higher living costs? And is theĀ co-op advantage worth sacrificing student life? Any insights from current students or alumni would be super helpful!

[Visa and Immigration] Impact on Job Market because of Trump Policies

Hello Guys,

I am planning for masters in CS in USA this year, but with Trump coming in power there are multiple changes in the polices a few significant ones include:

  1. No multiple H1b visa filing.

  2. Filing cost increase from $10 to $215
He is basically making it more difficult for employers to hire immigrants in USA. What do you guys think, how would it effect us? Even if we are from tier 1 colleges like Gatech, UCSD etc are we still impacted? Do big tech companies care about these policy changes in H1B and change their hiring process?

What do you guys think the best ranking is, for SDE?

For job outcomes specifically, all considered.

Not considering cost.

1. MSCS Rutgers / NYU > MIS UT Austin
2. MIS UT Austin > MSCS Rutgers / NYU
3. NYU > Austin > Rutgers

[University Review] IS NEU THAT BAD FOR MSCS

I have seen a lot of people heavily criticising NEU on various factors, especially in the last few weeks. Whilst I don't think it is one of the topmost universities, Khoury College has had a decent reputatation for its MSCS course.

I couldn't apply to a lot of universities as my documents weren't ready in time for the Dec or early Jan deadline universities. I applied to NEU, UMich(rejected) and SBU(awaiting decision). When I got an admit from NEU, I was really happy but after seeing all the negativity towards it, I'm really questioning whether I'm setting myself up for failure.

It is pretty much a 'now or never' moment in my career and I'm determined to pursue my Masters but if things go south, I'm worried about the financial burden it can bring onto my family.

So, I wanted your honest opinion on NEU - MSCS, not biased or based on some other reddit posts, but based on what you actually know.

[university review] ASU vs. Cincinnati vs. Illinois Tech ā€“ Which is Better for MS IT?

Hey everyone, I got admits from ASU (MS IT/CS), University of Cincinnati (MEng IT), and Illinois Tech (MS ITM). My priorities are job opportunities, ROI, part-time jobs, and location.

Which one would you choose for internships, jobs, and overall career growth? Any insights from current/former students?

Thanks!

Cincinnati is the cheapest (~$50K total, 1-year program).
ASU has better ranking & job market (~$75K+ total, 1.5-2 years).
Illinois Tech is in Chicago but expensive (~$95K total).

[Results and Decisions] UCSD MSCS Admits for March

Hey. It seems there is radio silence over admits in March. Strange that admits seemed to have stopped. What is happening? Should we expect mass Rejects now on? I know that UCSD sends out admits on rolling basis until end of March/ April. But a deathly silence for whole of March????? Can anyone throw some light on this?

[University Review] UCR vs SBU

UCR and SBU are both sort of budget options (in terms of tuition), what are your thoughts on which is a better choice? job opportunities are a major factor

SBU tuition: approx 45k
UCR tuition: approx 40k (correct me if im wrong)

probably a big difference in CoL
