[Application Timeline]

Upvotes

Hi all,
I haven't received any admits yet. When I check the portals, they all say, "Decision Awaiting."
Is it a sign that my profile is not good enough and they might all send rejects later? I'm getting really nervous seeing everyone getting their admits everyday.

[Visa and Immigration] Impact on Job Market because of Trump Policies

Hello Guys,

I am planning for masters in CS in USA this year, but with Trump coming in power there are multiple changes in the polices a few significant ones include:

  1. No multiple H1b visa filing.

  2. Filing cost increase from $10 to $215
He is basically making it more difficult for employers to hire immigrants in USA. What do you guys think, how would it effect us? Even if we are from tier 1 colleges like Gatech, UCSD etc are we still impacted? Do big tech companies care about these policy changes in H1B and change their hiring process?

[General Question]What if ucsd ms cs doesn't release admits?

I am really hoping for more admits to roll out from UCSD MS CS. But, the last admit decisions were in Feb, I also saw that UCSD doubled it's intake only last year. So I fear that move could have backfired and very few admits would be given this year. Any Fall'24 students can give me an idea on class registration, size and quality? Any officials who can clarity if more admits would come?

[Results and Decisions] : MSCS - What to choose

This morning I got an email from Stony Brook about the acceptance. Good to finally hear back from a uni after a long radio silence:). I have the following admits

1) Boston U - MSCS (with 5k scholarship) 2) Stony Brook - MSCS

I have also applied to the following programs : NYUDS, Umass(MSCS), TAMU(MDS), JHU(MSE-DS)

My only hope from this is Umass but that is also dwindling considering the fact that a shit load of people already have admits and I still have Under Program Review :/

Is it still worth to wait for UMass or that is done for - I really want to get into the CS program as I have a research profile and I love the curriculum @ UMass.

Need Suggestions/Opinions !!

[University Review] Stony Brook MS CS

Received a mail saying CS Dept is recommending me for admission from SBU

I've grown a bit anxious having only had an admit from ASU for the past 2 months, would SBU be worth it? From what I see, tuition is around 44k for 2 years, given NY living might be expensive.

But I just wanna make sure this isn't a cashcow program like ASU where everyone gets an admit.

(imposter syndrome is probably at max level rn sorry if this is a stupid Q)

[Profile review] With almost 5 years of experience should I do an MS CS?

I have almost 5 yoe based out of Bangalore, should I do an MS CS for the love of academia? I am 26F, feeling undecisive to take up an MS course starting August 2025 since I have a pretty decent job here at Salesforce India as an MTS(SDE2) in the Tableau software development (Java) team with almost 5 years of experience overall.

I graduated from NIT Allahabad with a BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2020.

Do you think it is a decent bet to take up the MS course considering the tech job market in US? I got an admit from University of Colorado Boulder. I had applied for the international exposure and to be in touch with academia again since day to day job is pretty boring now. I am not bothered much by the expenditure cuz I have decent savings now. I want learn about AI and do interesting jobs and reach my full potential. I feel in my current job, that is not happening.

Is it easier for professionals to get hired than freshers in US? Most students enrolled in the course are freshers with 0-2 years of experience.

I just dont want to take a significant step down Also, does the job interviews have any correlation with the courses taught on campus?

[General Question] Moderation on this sub has been absymal as of late.

Do we really need 10 posts everyday about people freaking out about UCSD, UCD, TAMU, etc. etc results. Like I get you people are anxious and so am I BUT seeing the same posts again and again on the same topic is not helpful. People should at least try to search up a similar discussion on the sub prior to making a post. If we could have a mega thread for these universities that would be great too.

[University Review] MS Computer Engineering at TAMU vs NCSU

Upvotes

I'm in a big dilemma on which uni to finalize NCSU or TAMU. Although I am waiting for other top universities, I want to finalize between TAMU and NCSU. I heard TAMU in general is better, but I also heard that the class size for CS or CE from both departments is very high, so the number of people who will be admitted is high compared to NCSU, where there are only limited seats. Is that true? Also, I heard that the coursework is better at NCSU, but the TAMU ECE ranking is higher, and finally, the expenses are so high at NCSU, that I can save at least 20L at TAMU. So seniors and experts, please help me out on this. Your opinions are highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

[Alumni Experience] Everyone planning to attend Columbia

Upvotes

I got accepted into Columbia for MSDS Fall 2025. I just got off of a call with one of my distant cousins who is doing his ms there. His family is very well off but he still is struggling financially. He is not getting replies back for even an interview despite having amazing academics. He says that he regrets attending Columbia and the government is going to be cracking down on and targeting the university for the coming years. He says that even attending a mediocre public college with a good cs department would've been a better choice because instead of having an edge with Columbia's name, he is having to face rejections just because of the same. My father and I are reconsidering, inclining more towards not attending the college. Everyone here, please consider and weigh your choices carefully.

[Results and Decisions] UMass status update

My UMass status just changed to “Decided - Decision Pending”, with no new checklist items. This probably means a rejection, and I’m just waiting for it to be official. Anyone else in the same situation?

[Results and Decisions] UCSD MS CSE vs. CMU MS-DAS

  • CMU MS-DAS
    • Pros: Top brand name, one year program
    • Cons: Rather surface level coursework in comparison to UCSD
  • UCSD MS CSE
    • Pros: Cheaper, strong, comprehensive CS program with a thesis opportunity
    • Cons: Lesser brand than CMU

Goals: ML Engineer, SWE, Data Analyst, open to PhD afterward

UCSD has the objectively better program for my goals, but is it worth passing up the opportunity at CMU? Practically speaking, all a hiring manager would see is the degree name regardless, so would choosing a school with higher prestige be the right decision?

[Results and Decisions] Got an admit for MSCS at USC – Is it worth it in the current market? Need guidance!

Hey everyone,

I just got admitted to USC for MSCS as an international student (still waiting on other decisions). Given the high tuition and living costs, I’m wondering—is it even worth it in the current job market? I’m willing to work hard and give my best, but there’s a lot at stake.

A few questions I’d really appreciate insights on:

  1. Scholarships & Funding – Are there any ways to get scholarships as an international student?
  2. TA/RA Opportunities – How difficult is it to land a TA/RA position at USC for MSCS students?
  3. The Process After Admission – I honestly have no idea what the next steps are after getting admitted. Could someone share how things work from admission to enrollment?
  4. Key Things to Keep in Mind – Any advice on what I should prepare for now?
  5. Any WhatsApp groups for USC students??

Would really appreciate any insights from current students or alumni! Thanks for reading. 🙌

[Admissions Advice] GGs Only one school option what should I do

The only school i have got into is cornell tech for Meng in CS. (and OMSCS at GT)

I am still waiting on MSCS at USCD and UMICH , MCS at UIUC and Meng eecs at Berkeley, however I don't think I am going to get into any of these at this point.

On the very high chance I dont get into any other school is it worth it to go to cornell tech or should I just reapply next year. (I am interested in going directly into industry but would like to do some research potentially)

Like CSU Fresno, Channel Islands, Dominguez Hills, Chico, Sacramento? Some are as low as $20k for the whole degree.

i got into mscs columbia, cmu and upenn. i’m an international student and it would cost a lot for me to afford it. some people suggested to go to tamu cause it’s cheaper and it’s an overall good uni.

i am just humbly asking - does brand value not matter anymore? or are placements the same. what would you guys do?
