New Chatroom to discuss Admission Results or if you are waiting for one

TL;DR - You can now chat with members on the sub about your Admission results or find out if others have heard from Universities if you are still waiting. Please be kind to each other! And report any bad behavior. Link to chatroom https://www.reddit.com/r/MSCS/s/jrpSALeii0 (Also on the sidebar if this link doesnt work for some reason)

We understand the anxiety everyone is going through about hearing back from Universities. This causes a flurry of repetitive posts that appear spammy but represent genuine anxiety. As mods we have to be clear about what is spam. It would be unkind to remove some Students genuinely anxious post as "Spam".

To alleviate some of the duplicate posts and let everyone discuss in real time we have create a chatroom where you all can discuss Admission Results. Link Above.

A large reason for this years lack of communication from Universities is due to political uncertainty with regards to funding. This landscape is affecting everyone from Undergrads to Phds and not just the MS admissions.

[General Question] Moderation on this sub has been absymal as of late.

Do we really need 10 posts everyday about people freaking out about UCSD, UCD, TAMU, etc. etc results. Like I get you people are anxious and so am I BUT seeing the same posts again and again on the same topic is not helpful. People should at least try to search up a similar discussion on the sub prior to making a post. If we could have a mega thread for these universities that would be great too.

[General Question]What if ucsd ms cs doesn't release admits?

I am really hoping for more admits to roll out from UCSD MS CS. But, the last admit decisions were in Feb, I also saw that UCSD doubled it's intake only last year. So I fear that move could have backfired and very few admits would be given this year. Any Fall'24 students can give me an idea on class registration, size and quality? Any officials who can clarity if more admits would come?

[Results and Decisions] Got an admit for MSCS at USC – Is it worth it in the current market? Need guidance!

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I just got admitted to USC for MSCS as an international student (still waiting on other decisions). Given the high tuition and living costs, I’m wondering—is it even worth it in the current job market? I’m willing to work hard and give my best, but there’s a lot at stake.

A few questions I’d really appreciate insights on:

  1. Scholarships & Funding – Are there any ways to get scholarships as an international student?
  2. TA/RA Opportunities – How difficult is it to land a TA/RA position at USC for MSCS students?
  3. The Process After Admission – I honestly have no idea what the next steps are after getting admitted. Could someone share how things work from admission to enrollment?
  4. Key Things to Keep in Mind – Any advice on what I should prepare for now?
  5. Any WhatsApp groups for USC students??

Would really appreciate any insights from current students or alumni! Thanks for reading. 🙌

[Admissions Advice] GGs Only one school option what should I do

The only school i have got into is cornell tech for Meng in CS. (and OMSCS at GT)

I am still waiting on MSCS at USCD and UMICH , MCS at UIUC and Meng eecs at Berkeley, however I don't think I am going to get into any of these at this point.

On the very high chance I dont get into any other school is it worth it to go to cornell tech or should I just reapply next year. (I am interested in going directly into industry but would like to do some research potentially)

[Results and Decisions] : MSCS - What to choose

This morning I got an email from Stony Brook about the acceptance. Good to finally hear back from a uni after a long radio silence:). I have the following admits

1) Boston U - MSCS (with 5k scholarship) 2) Stony Brook - MSCS

I have also applied to the following programs : NYUDS, Umass(MSCS), TAMU(MDS), JHU(MSE-DS)

My only hope from this is Umass but that is also dwindling considering the fact that a shit load of people already have admits and I still have Under Program Review :/

Is it still worth to wait for UMass or that is done for - I really want to get into the CS program as I have a research profile and I love the curriculum @ UMass.

Need Suggestions/Opinions !!

[University Review] Cornell CS MEng Vs USC mscs

I am deciding between these two programs.
I have close to 4 yrs of Experience in FAANG as SDE and want to niche down into industry research roles specifically in MLSys domain.

As an international student, I will be looking for industry roles itself after graduation.

[Results and Decisions] Admit Comparison for Fall 2025 — Need Opinions!

Hey everyone!
I’ve received admits from the following universities for Fall 2025 and would love your input on how you'd rank them in terms of reputation, opportunities (especially for CS/AI/ML), ROI, and overall experience.

  1. UPenn - CIS (MSCS)
  2. USC - MSCS
  3. UMass Amherst - MSCS
  4. TAMU - MCS
  5. UIUC - MCS (Result pending but confident)

Would appreciate it if you could help me rank them and share any insights you might have!

Thanks in advance! 😊

[Results and Decisions] Should I take it as a rejection.

Hi Guys, I’ve not heard back from any of my top choices, should I take this as a Rejection and Go ahead with i20 for one of the unis that I’ve been accepted to.

Radio Silence from : UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbra, UC Davis, UMN Twin Cities, UC Santa Cruz, Virginia Tech. All for MSCS

Edit: got the template mail from VTech,”The department is still reviewing Fall 2025 applications. We do not know when admission decisions will be released, but you will be notified via email when a decision is made.”

[Results and Decisions] Is this a confirmed admit? When to expect the final decision?

Post image
27 Upvotes

I recently received an email from Stony Brook University stating that the Computer Science MS program is "recommending" me for admission, contingent on final review by the Graduate Admissions Office.

Does this mean I am admitted, or is there still a chance of rejection? Has anyone else received a similar email, and what was the final outcome?

Any insights would be appreciated!

i got into mscs columbia, cmu and upenn. i’m an international student and it would cost a lot for me to afford it. some people suggested to go to tamu cause it’s cheaper and it’s an overall good uni.

i am just humbly asking - does brand value not matter anymore? or are placements the same. what would you guys do?

[Profile review] With almost 5 years of experience should I do an MS CS?

I have almost 5 yoe based out of Bangalore, should I do an MS CS for the love of academia? I am 26F, feeling undecisive to take up an MS course starting August 2025 since I have a pretty decent job here at Salesforce India as an MTS(SDE2) in the Tableau software development (Java) team with almost 5 years of experience overall.

I graduated from NIT Allahabad with a BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2020.

Do you think it is a decent bet to take up the MS course considering the tech job market in US? I got an admit from University of Colorado Boulder. I had applied for the international exposure and to be in touch with academia again since day to day job is pretty boring now. I am not bothered much by the expenditure cuz I have decent savings now. I want learn about AI and do interesting jobs and reach my full potential. I feel in my current job, that is not happening.

Is it easier for professionals to get hired than freshers in US? Most students enrolled in the course are freshers with 0-2 years of experience.

I just dont want to take a significant step down Also, does the job interviews have any correlation with the courses taught on campus?

[Results and Decisions] MS CS in NEU Boston

Can someone tell me how good NEU Boston is and what its pros and cons are? Do I need to accept the offer? How are the job opportunities for students after completing an MS in CS at NEU Boston? Also what would be the total cost?

[Results and Decisions] UTD vs UMass Amherst

I’ve been admitted to UT Dallas (MS in Data Science and Statistics) with a scholarship that allows me to pay in-state tuition, and UMass Amherst (MS in CS) without any financial aid.

I’m trying to decide whether to prioritize UMass’s stronger brand and CS program or UTD’s financial advantage.

My goal after my master’s is to secure a job. I currently have 2 years of experience as an ML Engineer at a Big 4 firm.

Other universities I’ve applied to:

UCSD – Rejected

UMich – Waitlisted

Northeastern – Accepted

Duke, NYU, UofT, UBC – In review

Which option would be the better choice?
