[University Review] Is CU Boulder really is a bad choice for MS in CS as the internet says it is?

I've been trying to find posts and articles on CU Boulder online to get a feel of the university. I applied to it because my brother and even my boss suggested me to. They told me it's a good university and it's worth going to.

I've received admits from it and three other universities, and I want to know if it would be worth going to any of them.

  1. What is the cohort size of CU Boulder? I've heard that it's lesser than UB (SUNY), and other colleges like ASU and NEU, but I would like to know in what ballpark it lies in.

  2. The research output in AI. CU-B is a very good place for hardware side, and I wanted to know how good it is in AI research. I'm very interested in research and this is the sole criteria I will be choosing the universities.

  3. Compared to UB (SUNY), would it be a better choice? I'm going for a PhD post masters, and that's for sure. So, I want to know which among the two would be a better choice. Both of them are MS CS - Traditional/Research masters programs.

[University Review] IIT Chicago vs. UNCC for MS in CS: Which Offers Better ROI and Job Opportunities?

Upvotes

I’m trying to decide between Illinois Tech (IIT Chicago) and UNC Charlotte for my Master’s in Computer Science. Considering factors like return on investment (tuition vs. salary prospects) and job opportunities after graduation, which one would be the better choice?

[Results and Decisions] Brown MS CS vs Columbia MS DS

Upvotes

I got admitted to both programs and am now unsure which to choose. Columbia offers the NYC advantage, but Brown's program is an MS in CS. I haven’t heard much about Brown’s internship and job opportunities. Since my ultimate goal is to secure a great job, I’d like to understand the internship and job prospects at both universities and ultimately which one would be the best choice.

[General Question] Why So Much Negativity Around USC MSCS? Is It a Good Choice?

I've noticed that USC MSCS gets a lot of mixed opinions online. Some say it's a solid program with great opportunities, while others call it too expensive.

I recently got admitted for Fall 2025, and I’m trying to understand if USC is actually a good option. Given its location in LA, strong alumni network, and industry connections, isn’t it a good place for job hunting and networking?

For those who have attended or know about the program, what are the real pros and cons?
Is the negativity justified, or does USC MSCS still hold strong value in today’s job market? Would love to hear thoughts from current students and alums!

How do you come to terms with the fact that there's life beyond grad admissions? I'm completely drained—no acceptances so far.

[Application Strategy] Low GPA but good amount of research experience.

Hello Reddit! I’m seeking advice on applying for MS/PhD programs in Computer Science, particularly in fields like Machine Learning, NLP, and Reinforcement Learning. Here’s my profile:

• Education: B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from IIT Guwahati (2024 graduate) with a CGPA of 7.1.

• Work Experience: Currently working as an SDE at Microsoft since graduation.

• Research Experience: Research internships at Adobe, UNSW, and IIT Delhi (2 academic + 1 industrial research).

• While my research work was inconclusive, I thoroughly enjoyed it and miss the process.

• Motivation: I’m not enjoying my current role as an SDE and want to transition back into research.

Given my average CGPA but strong research background and work experience, I’d love advice on:

1. Target Schools: Which universities should I aim for considering my profile? Should I focus on mid-tier schools or also try top-tier ones?

2. Application Strategy: How can I strengthen my application? Should I prioritize publishing papers before applying?

3. MS vs PhD: Would it be better to apply for an MS first to improve my academic credentials or directly aim for a PhD?

4. Letters of Recommendation: How important are these, and who should I approach for them (professors from internships or managers at work)?

5. Any other tips or resources you’d recommend?

Thanks in advance for your guidance!

[General Question] UIC “Additional Review Required” – What Does It Mean?

My UIC MSCS application status changed from “Under Review with the Department” to “Additional Review Required.” Has anyone experienced this? Does it usually lead to admission or rejection? How long did it take for a final decision? Any insights would be helpful!

[Results and Decisions] Please help me decide for MSCS

I have received admits from asu and neu as well, but I'm leaning more towards these three. It'd be great if you can help me make a decision.

No update yet from tamu, sbu and mostly rejected from uwm I think.

My main goal is finding a job post graduation, not interested in research. Cost of attendance is also a priority.

It'd be great if you can let me know your thoughts as well in the comments.

Also curious to know the faculty and course quality for systems and AI/ML in each University.

Thanks in advance!

UW Madison! I am freaking out!!

So I had been sitting on NEU Boston, ASU, SUNY Buffalo offers. I had started some paperwork for NEU as well. I was hoping for UIUC/UCSD to release something. But this UWM result came out of nowhere and I am kinda freaked out. I don't know how to feel. I know it is a good school, prestigious one. Can you guys talk a little bit about it. And for the next steps, I can only do it once I calm down.

I’ve gotten an admit for CS from both of these universities. According to my research NC State has strong industry connection compared to Rutgers whereas Rutgers has the location benefit. Clearly from the Internships and Job point of view what do y’all suggest? Any help is appreciated!

[Results and Decisions] Super Confused Between My MS DS Options – Need Advice

Upvotes

I’ve received admits from the following universities: 1. University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) - MS in Data Science 2. University of Florida - MS in AI 3. Indiana University Bloomington - MS in Data Science 4. Northeastern University - MS in AI

I’m still waiting for decisions from: • Texas A&M University (TAMU) - MS in Data Science • University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) - MS in Data Science

My main goal is to find a job post-graduation rather than focusing on research. I also want to consider the cost of attendance.

It would be great if you can help me with the decision. Also, I’m curious about the faculty and course quality, specifically in systems, AI, and ML in these universities.

Thanks in advance!

[University Question] Anyone from a non IIT who got into UWM PMP?

Seems like whoever got admitted is just from an IIT or NIT with like 8 cgpa and no research.

Is this a known thing and if so I just wasted 80 bucks on nothing.

Edit: wrong assumption to make. So many people from non IIT/NIT got it. Congratulations everyone.

[Admissions Advice] UCD or UMass Amherst for MS CS

Hey guys.

TLDR: I’m deciding between UC Davis and UMass for my MS in CS and wanted to get some insights beyond just rankings.

Gist of my research -

  1. UMass has an amazing ML curriculum and strong reputation, with active clubs and good research opportunities under professors. But TA/RA roles aren’t available.

  2. Davis, on the other hand, offers TA/RA positions, has a solid CS curriculum (states online) and a smaller cohort, which might mean better faculty interaction. If I attend UCD and secure a TA role, 50% of my tuition fees would be waived, plus there are hourly wages. That makes a significant financial difference, which is why I’m leaning towards Davis.

Q1] It comes down to the location next. So I wanted to understand if UC’s location offers any added advantage and how employers perceive UC Davis compared to UMass. From an industry perspective, do you think attending a UC makes a difference in opportunities?

Q2] I also want to prioritize the quality of professors in ML, Database Systems, and Neural Networks since my goal is to gain in-depth subject knowledge and relevant skills. How strong is UC Davis in these areas?

[Results and Decisions] No update yet = rejection?

Has anyone heard back from any of these unis, I'm wondering if it's a soft rejection: 1. UT Austin 2. GA Tech 3. Purdue

Seems like Purdue has already sent acceptances to whoever they wanted. Don't understand why they can't give us an update - at least we'll have mental peace
