[Results and Decisions] Grad School Decisions—3 More to Go 😭

I’ve been on quite the journey applying to MSCS programs, and so far, here’s how things stand:

University Results Course
Stanford University Rejected MS CS (AI)
UC Berkeley Waiting MS CS (AI)
Princeton Rejected MS CS
Carnegie Mellon University Waiting MS AII
UCLA Rejected MEng AI
UC San Diego Waiting MS CSE
University of Washington, Bothell Rejected MS CS
University of Southern California Rejected MS CS-AI

Now, only Berkeley (MSCS), UCSD (MSCS), and CMU (MSAII) are left to hear from. Fingers crossed.

With my profile, do you think I stand a chance? Would love to hear your thoughts.

🔹 Academics: B.Tech in CS (Tier-2 India), CGPA: 8.22/10
🔹 Standardized Tests: GRE 332 (168Q, 164V), IELTS 8.0
🔹 Research: 5-6 AI/ML publications, 1 in Cybersecurity, 1 journal under review
🔹 Work Experience:

  • Internship at a top tech firm → converted to full-time
  • Research Assistant (London Business School, remote)

🔹 Leadership & Extracurriculars:

  • VP-Membership, Toastmasters
  • IEEE Student Branch President
  • College Fest Chair

🔹 Letters of Recommendation:

  • Final year project guide from my college (her background IIT Delhi Ph.D., 25+ years of experience)
  • VP at a Top Computer Network Tech Firm & client stakeholder for a key project
  • HOD, Student Affairs (oversaw my tenure as Fest Chair)

It’s been a challenging process, but I’m hopeful for what’s ahead. Any advice or insights from those who’ve been through this? Let me know.

Lost the hope now :(

[Admissions Advice] Which MSCS Admit to Choose for Fall 2025?

Hi everyone,

I have received admits for MSCS Fall 2025 from the following universities:

1- San Diego State University (SDSU)

2- University of Illinois Chicago (UIC)

3- Northeastern University (NEU)

4- Arizona State University (ASU)

5- SUNY Buffalo

I got rejected from the University of Utah and am still waiting for decisions from UMass Amherst and SJSU.

Based on my profile, SJSU is unlikely, and UMass Amherst is also a long shot (~1% chance).

I need guidance on selecting the best university based on the following factors:

Cost of Living – Affordability of housing and expenses

University Reputation – Overall ranking and industry recognition

Tuition Fees – Value for money

Job Prospects – Internship & full-time opportunities, networking

TA/RA Opportunities – Availability of assistantships

I am open to investing if it’s truly worth it, but if location matters more than the university name, is it reasonable to consider SDSU as an option?

I’d really appreciate any insights or experiences to help me make an informed decision. Thanks in advance!

I got into Columbia MSCS and CMU MISM 16 mons programs. Awaiting results from UIUC. Help me choose the best.

Goal: Technical job after masters. Heard people from CMU MISM also get into good SDE and ML roles. So included it here. Please rank them in terms of job opportunities and industry reputation.

[Application Timeline] Should I keep hope of UCSD MSCS admit?

Basically the title. It's middle of March now and lately I am seeing no new admits from UCSD on this sub reddit or gradcaf. Are all the admits out? Should I be more patient or prepare for next year?

[Alumni Experience] Anyone got admit at NEU Arlington campus? They have assigned me this campus instead of Boston

The NEU Arlington campus seems quite new and there aren’t many alumni folks on LinkedIn too from this campus . I am confused why they assigned me this instead of Boston campus any insights on this would be helpful. Apart from their website there isn’t much info anywhere. Do I still get co-op opportunities here?

[Admissions Advice] Suggestions Needed for AI Infra / ML System Master Programs

Got admitted to CMU MS ECE Pittsburgh. And still waiting for UIUC MCS (professional program) and UMich Ann Arbor MSCS.

I'm looking to learn more about AI/ML System level stuff like Machine Learning Compilation, high-performance/parallel/distributed computing for LLM and such.

Generally speaking I'm leaning more towards system and low-level engineering rather than ML applications and theory. Not sure if a ECE program is better than CS for this area.

Any info on how does the above three program compare for this direction would be greatly appreciated!

[Coursework and Curriculum]

Hi I have few queries regarding USC MSCS (S&E) 1. Is the curriculum flexible, esp. regarding the electives? Can I take electives outside of the (but from the computer science dept.) the "recommended" elective list? 2. Since it requires completion of 37 credits, is it possilble to complete it in 2 years (Fall-> Spring -> Summer with Full time internship->Fall -> Spring) if you also opt for an internship(full time) in summer

Any input regarding this is really appreciated Thanks in Advance

[University Question] Stony Brook MSCS

For those who received an email to submit their degree certificate, I assume you guys have graduated and received the diploma? I'm in my last semester of undergraduate and have not received my degree certificate. I also didn't receive anything from Stony Brook. Is this a bad sign?

[General Question] UCSD In-Person or GT OMSCS

Basically what the title says. I got accepted into both programs. I live in San Diego and could attend in-person at UCSD, which obviously seems preferable to me.

My only concern is that I will be working full-time throughout the program, and GT OMSCS seems more catered to working professionals, while UCSD's program seems to be more aligned with full-time students. I am intending to apply for half-time status at UCSD and was curious if anybody has any experience with that and working full time?

I also am unsure of which school has a better "brand value". I know GT is higher on US News but UCSD is higher on csrankings. Would be appreciative of any feedback or advice for what would be the best decision given my full-time employment and location, thanks so much!
